HOW MUCH MONEY DID IT COST US TO QUICKLY START A HOMESTEAD??? | Homesteading Family

I've been enjoying answering all of your homesteading questions in this Q&A series. Today I answer the more homesteading for beginners questions from viewers. I've also been asked multiple times what the costs are to start a homestead. I break down the numbers of what I've spent so far to get our "Sudden Homestead" up and running quickly. I share the cost breakdown for putting up our fencing, buying our goats, putting up buildings, buying chickens, turkeys, and more. IT HAS BEEN EXPENSIVE. One thing to remember, we're not going to Disney World this year :). These start-up costs are getting many systems in place quickly for our family that we'll be using for many years to come.
I also answer many more homesteading questions in this video! If you've missed the other homesteading Q&A videos you can watch those here:

@@we_are_the_wesners drives me crazy and the questioning about the kids homeschooling. She has never let her family or kids down before, why in the heck would she now? Plus I think some folks don't realize how much kids learn working qs a family taking care of animals and food to feed families. Her kids are going to be more well rounded than someone who is graduating from Harvard with a 300,000 college education

In my opinion homesteading seems like a more humane way to eat meat. Instead of buying meat from large factory farms that treat animals very poorly you get to raise the animals humanely yourself.

Wow your always so on point...I lost my husband years ago after a long illness, at that time we were very much homesteaders with two beautiful young girls... thru many adversities we ended up downsizing and eventually moving off our land. This nasty C-19 has reminded me of our past hopes and dreams. While we haven't lived on the property we still have it...C-19 took my job and many hopes away ...but life being what it is I am receiving a substantial unemployment payment enough in fact that rather then let our property go we are now focused on paying it off and jump-starting our homesteading life again. My heart spills over seeing your many accomplishments. I would like to say while I'm only half way thru this video two things jumped out ..."homesteading requires tenacity" Tenacity Farms is actually going to be our homesteads name and hearing you say by God's grace...that's exactly what it is...my family will be ok beacuse of God's Grace... Please keep up the videos there amazing, and may you and your family be blessed.

My husband and I are opening a school in 2021 and I agree, I am depending upon God's grace to give us the wisdom to help these babies. He is already opening unexpected doors for us. I'm 62 and a single parent not by choice but what you're doing is speaking encouragement to me. My youngest who is still at home and I are trying to do a garden when I've got medical challenges and my daughter does as well and yet we're trusting the Lord for what he has shown us ahead. We call our home right now training grounds. We are in recovery mode from a car accident last fall my daughter put in seed they didn't do the best but we we're encouraged when she said just get it in the ground and trust the Lord and see what it grows and that's what we're doing. What doesn't grow we are trusting the Lord to provide.

You have mentioned several times about finishing unpacking. I look at it this way...your children are only little one time and that time you do not get back. so when you say you all were outside doing things, instead of putting boxes away...your making memories. You don't want your children to remember mom and dad always working, but to remember mom and dad spending time with them. You and your husband are doing a great job! Enjoy your time outside and if you need something in one of those boxes...I"m sure one of those children would love to dig it out if needed. Have a Blessed filled day! you are very appreciated!

With regard to cost, you're right in that it doesn't save tonnes of money to raise all the meat and milk yourself, but the quality and freshness is so much greater than what you can buy for the same price at the grocery store. To me, that's a huge win!! Plus, as you said, the wonderful experience and growth of doing the work yourself.

Jamerrill: love your videos. Hope all goes well with the “farm”. This is probably the way our ancestors farmed. Moved to an area and brought seeds and some animals with them and that is how they survived. My parents had a subsistence farm. They had a potato field and a vegetable garden. They had cows. Mom even had a flower garden that had plum trees. They also had an apple orchard. Unfortunately, my dad passed away when I was four and my uncle took the cows except one and her calf. I named the calf Fudgy. Then we got a pig (Pinky) and my brothers raised chickens for 4-H and meat. Another uncle came over and butchered the chickens while my mom and aunt defeathered in the boiling water. Such memories. I think we were richer with the subsistence garden than money could buy. That helped us a lot. I love your vlogs and please continue. My mom taught us a lot after dad died but I will leave one story for winter for you. See? I can be suspenseful, too.

I love it! I love it all! 🤗 I think your lengthy explanation about how you plan to give all the animals their best life before the have “one bad day” was great. For those people who don’t eat meat, it’s all good. You do you and and I do me. I tell my teen daughter, the chicken doesn’t get all pretty and boneless at the grocery store just like that. Better the kids know where all their food comes from and how to care for animals and be self sufficient. I am not a homesteader, I am a gardener. I make many things from scratch and try to learn things along the way. So I’m glad to see you try all the things that I might some day, or that I might not try. You were also very gracious in sharing the cost of your homesteading start up. Many pop wow might of. It felt comfortable with that. But I do know that I’m different states the costs would be higher or lower. I live in Southern California and 6k doesn’t sound ridiculous at all for all the animals and products that you’ve gotten, all the investments and most of all...all the learning your children will gain. Also loved the garden tour the other day 😉

Jamerrill you are one amazing Momma! I think quite often people spend a lot of time thinking about all the things they need to get done in a day. But you get up and get it accomplished by putting one foot in front of the other. You are an inspiration to me. I love that your family all pitches in to make things come together too.

Jamerill, You are such a great blessing to me. Hon, I’m old enough to be your mom, yet you have inspired me so so much, and I’m so so grateful to you.🥰 I gardened as a young woman, while our children were growing up, my husband and I have in the last decade as well. But... this year I just felt so overwhelmed, health wise, etc... but I’ve watched many of your videos, and you’re always so laid back, so confident, and just jump in with both feet. You so inspired me into “just do it, what can it hurt,” attitude. Well, we’ve just planted again after a LATE frost hit, then weeks of LOTS of rain... I pray everything we’ve planted is fruitful and we have a great harvest... But just in the doing... it’s been a great blessing. I LOVE your outlook on homesteading, I feel you’re a very wise lady, please don’t let anyone make you question yourself. 😉😉😉 Sorry for babbling, just know you are a GREAT BLESSING and source of info, and I so enjoy your videos. May God bless you and keep y’all safe and well! 🥰❤️🥰 xoxo

Jamerril , I have to tell you what happened .. My grandson was watching your video with me and he loved the animals... So a couple days later her cane in here and said, Nana, I said yes, and he said that chicken lady you watch just posted a new video... we had several chuckles about that ...

LOL! You mentioned some ladies doing their laundry during your videos; that's exactly what I do! I got three loads folded and put away today and even had time to grab my lunch and eat it! I love your, "just do it" attitude. Sometimes I get too caught up in the planning. I'm learning to just do it (at 52 years old... better late than never!!). loved the video! Thanks for sharing. :)

Well, I’m old sweetie. Travis and I have been married for 22 years. He went to college down near the beach, I followed him down there, we were married down that way, and had our first house and first child in that area as well. Total, I lived down there about five years. After we had our first child, and started having gunshots in our first house neighborhood, we moved back to the country. :)

I wish I was there to help you out too. I would love to have a family like that but I lost my mother and the rest didn't do what she did for me. It's great that you and your family are living the dream that was planned. I agree that the homestead sounds much more exciting to work with than buying new furniture that would simply sit there. I subscribed to hear how things are coming along. Garter snakes are supposed to be very useful. I love snakes. Thanks so much for sharing.
