Is it weird how your comment made me think of how Jax at first thought the right thing to do for his daughter in Mortal Kombat 11 was to join Kronika until Jacqui snapped him out of it? I picked up the game while it was on sale on the Switch eShop.

I can imagine Neo Metal in a slow fall from grace with this in the back. He looks back on everything he has done, and wondering how he could have lost even when he had almost everything.

I've always thought that this song's lyrics were quite sad. But this cover in particular made me reinterpret the meaning of the line "And one by one they've all become a number as they fall." Metal Sonic was driven by the desire justify his own existence and to establish his identity, distinct from Sonic. He likely fears becoming obsolete - another numbered series robot that Eggman ultimately abandons when it's proven not to be good enough. (Like Silver Sonic and Mecha Sonic before him.) Metal Sonic must prove to Sonic, to Eggman, and to himself what he's made of. He rebelled against Eggman like a child might against an unloving parent. But, more interestingly, note that the way he rebelled was by going after Sonic. You see, Metal had something to prove. If he could beat Sonic, he would prove that he wasn't some imperfect copy of someone else. He wanted to escape comparison to Sonic, like a brother might resent being compared to his more successful sibling. That's what's tragic about Metal Sonic. His motivation is understandable, even if his actions are twisted. We must stop him, but by doing so we prevent him from proving that what he's made of is good enough.

And despite everything, we must recognize something to Metal: his determination. Despite being a "villain", he is the only metallic copy of Sonic that has prevailed over time, and the only creation of Eggman that has managed to give Sonic a true race. And no matter how much time passes, Metal keeps trying, just like Sonic himself. And I feel rightly that Sonic actually has some respect for Metal for this and other reasons, and hence Sonic's compassion and understanding is reflected in the line: *"You can take another life long try. You can take another try..."*

Nice analysis, but it's kinda darkly funny because Gamma and Omega both got what Metal Sonic always wanted prettty much by accident. They both escaped the typical Eggman obsolesence by redefining themselves with a new mission. Metal's motivation *is* his problem; he needs to accept that's he is not Sonic but his own being with his own ideals.

Part of also might be a desperate desire to prove Metal Sonic isn’t like his predecessors (Silver Sonic, Silver Sonic 2.0, Mecha Sonic) because if he is aware of them then he could be desperate to prove that unlike them he has value to keep around rather than being destroyed or discarded for scraps to be made into a new model..

Holy crap! Imagine if they used this as the ending while showing Metal Sonic scenes, this is beautiful. How have I not seen this before?

@@yep1486 his red eyes goes to blank as he understands what his doing is evil. This song plays and end credits show I also like to see metal sonic to become friendly because he understand what hes doing previously. Like they did to shadow where they made him a friendly character
