What I learned from Dr Richard Bandler
Ойын-сауық
In this episode of Changing Minds, I sit down again with my mentor and friend Dr. Richard Bandler, the co-creator of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and a renowned expert in the field of behavioral change. With over five decades of experience, Dr. Bandler has revolutionized the approach to personal development and psychotherapy. In this discussion, he shares transformative insights from his career, and reflects on the powerful influence of mentors like Virginia Satir. Dr. Bandler also critiques traditional psychotherapeutic methods, advocating for techniques that offer immediate and effective change. Whether you're a long-time follower or new to the concepts Richard shares, this episode is packed with valuable lessons on improving mental habits, accelerating personal growth, and understanding the role of imagination and belief in achieving profound personal transformation. We speak on the most important lessons Richard has ever learned, his mentors, what he’s grateful for, how to change the way you think long term, the difference between thinking smarter and inspiration and much much more.

Owen I am from Belfast, I discovered Richard through Unlimited Power (Tony talking about him and John) I remember reading a book on the train to Dublin (NLP book by you) and Joeseph O'Connor this must have been about 1996, anyway great to see you two healthy and still working, the learnings I got from you guys served me so well in life. I haven't drank Alcohol or smoked in 22 years and I pursued my passion for IT and even had a 10 year career in Microsoft. But it has to be said without you guys and your teachings I don't think I would have gotten through half of what I went through in life and trust me it was a rough ride, in 2002 I lost my partner 2 year old son and best friend all within 6 months. But I had a toolset, and a very strong belief in modelling and told myself the map is not the territory. Anyway all the best and keep up the legendary work!!!
I'm grateful for Richard Bandler and NLP. It changed my life and continues to do so. Dr. Bandler is the smartest person that I know and one of the most important contributors of knowledge that enhances people's lives in our time. He not only has an explanation for everything, but he developed ways (techniques) where you can experience well-being in real time. He's a true hero and all those who have learned his material are invaluable to others as coaches/teachers. I was led to NLP organically after experiencing a random powerful shift in my state of mind in the midst of a traumatic period in my life and knew that I had tapped into something important and knew it could be duplicated but I didn't know how then. It was when NLP showed up in my life that I learned how to duplicate great feelings on command just by understanding how we think, or the lack of it, and our neurology. Thank you for this great interview.

I’ve actually never heard of this man even though I’ve always been interested in all things mind since I was sixteen but what an incredible , open person and an obvious gift to humanity I’ve just subscribed to your channel as I’ve also never listened to you and considering you’ve studied with him I imagine you’re also fascinating so looking forward to listening to other podcasts Again very grateful for this mind blowing interview and showcasing this wonderful man
According to the video, the learning from Dr Richard Bandler in this interview are: People can learn new things regardless of their age . Thinking positively is not enough to make a change. You need to know how to think positively and what steps to take to achieve your goals . When faced with a challenge, instead of feeling overwhelmed, you should focus on what you can do and the small steps you can take to move forward. If you are having negative thoughts, you need to replace them with positive thoughts
Really interesting talk, Owen and Dr Richard I really enjoyed it. This may seem way too simplistic to most people but Im going to say of it. In my young teenage years, my Uncle asked was I going ploughing on the farm? I said yes but have never ploughed a field ever. Everyone has to start he said. I did so and eventually ended up making a bad job. As an example my effort was embarrassing to me, tried lots to correct it, that only made it much worse. At lunch I was asked how is my ploughing, I said bad and there was a curve similar to a fairly tight turn in the road. So one of my life mentors (Uncle) came up and eventually he ploughed over my work and got the ploughing straight. He said he could only show me a few pointers - then I must think and teach myself. I ended up with most of that side of work doing very well and applied the techniques to everything in my life endeavours. We all must start, if we don't take action, we as Richard said don't move ahead. I have put myself in difficult situations to carry on a new strategy of work and had many times a red face of being embarrassed but that didn't do me any harm at all. It made me better as I didn't give up. I know one man when he first started his small business, his new clients some of whom he told me called him a silly stupid stupid man. He didn't give up, he has ended up as a highly successful business man. He still tells me of his clients calling him stupid but he has been massively successful compared to any of his derogatory clients and he still serves those derogatory clients today. He didn't let them affect his imagination of what he wanted to become. Don't look down folks, hold your head up and take action, regardless of red faced embarrassing situations coming your way.
There should be more NLP studies in all mental health professional work.

I agree, but an approach that helps people so quickly is not very profitable.
This content should be viral😍

Overcoming Learned Helplessness: Dr. Bandler suggests focusing on what you can do when faced with a challenge. How can his approach help someone who feels stuck in a situation due to learned helplessness (a belief that they have no control over outcomes)? **Beyond Positive Thinking: **The video highlights that positive thinking alone is not enough. Can you elaborate on what Dr. Bandler means by "knowing how to think positively" and how this translates into taking action and achieving goals?
Super interview, love it and great to see Richard speaking outside of the usual seminar environment!
Love the work you keep doing Owen and the fact that you keep going back to the source.... may you continue to keep doing the amazing work you keep doing Owen...🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Keep up the amazing work your doing Owen. Love that you keep coming back to the source 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤.. more power to you...
Loved this and thankyou very much going to keep re-listening
You’re funny Owen ☺️ I love to learn creating more and more change while using humor and laughter 🙏🏽 It’s such a blesing having learned that deeply through NHR. I loved the interview including knowing about your growth close to Dr. Bandler as well as you sharing your feelings in the end 🎁
NLP has helped me so much. I will be eternally grateful. When I talk about it I get a lot of blank stares. My friends and family dismiss it, sadly.Great insights. Fantastic interview.
I'm very happy to come across your video because I'm spending time right now looking for all the videos of Richard Bandler's latest interviews. 😀 I have been interested in Neuro Linguistic Programming for years and I finally had the chance to train with 2 of its master trainers (Michel Wozniak and Nathalie de Marcé) in Switzerland. I count myself lucky to be able to attend the Advanced Master Practitioner training in Italy in May and to be trained by Richard Bandler himself. This man is a true genius.
Super! Love it, thanks so much Owen!
Love the show, your style, and Richard. Keep going ❤
So glad Richard has instilled into you Owen an almost poetic preservation of how to take forward all the good content from my childhood summer holidays in Ireland and build up from that ☘️💚. Thank you
I like the way you do the entire interview process because first you allow the guest to speak all the way through and then you take few moments of edited footage to reflect upon the segment, and then you provide the set up for the next question! I think you’re an excellent interviewer and you have an even keel to your way of speaking! I love the part about storytelling and I plan on mastering storytelling eventually because in itself it’s very hypnotic and captivating as I remember specifically two people in my life who were master storytellers and one thing they both had in common was a tooth to tooth smile! That’s another thing that should be taught is how to smile! I’m not confident to give that kind of a smile, but I have always been a little envious of people who do!
Great interview, Owen. Love all the 'Bandlerisms'. It's always a pleasure to hear such wonderful insights from you both.
Outstanding!
I loved this thank you very much, I have never met him but love him.
I enjoyed your commentary! 👍

Thanks a million!
Imagine how many other fields of study & professions (we could add institutions, governments, several others) would change & how they might change if people would only apply the principle of "what's working--what's not working & how can we fix it"? Too many are caught up in the don't make waves mindset (though), sadly.
Loved it! Great interview! Keep up with the brain washing 😉

I'm really surprised he doesn't mention John Grinder or Milton Ericson.
Thankyou interviewer.xxxxxxxx
im always ( genealization lol ) thinking when watching bandler interviews, how hes likely tracking the other persons sub modalities, pacing, heart changes, meta programs, etc
So funny... His story about the phone co changing his phone #...way back when the phone was 'rotary' ...well, this just jogged my memory of a dream I had 2 nights ago! I was supposed to be calling someone by phone, but I was using a bunch of papers someone handed me. Then they handed me a rotary phone, and in the dream I realized, 'oh yah, I need a phone to call...why was I trying to use papers to call someone?? Nevertheless, after I dialed and dialed on the phone...still couldn't connect with anyone with that rotary phone🙄 No idea what this dream might mean, for me, but it is weird that 2 days later I recalled this dream upon someone in a podcast mentioning a rotary phone🙄
I've saw your name a lot but now I see it different your alright...xxx
Just bought his book Owen goodness knows if it will help me...

No, not remotely. NLP is open to anyone, with an open mind. You, can go about a good bookstore and a buy a NLP book and read it. Use the tips, or routines for a few days/weeks and then you feel, act, do and live a better life. Applying a negative mindset to NLP may cause you to avoid change for the better. Instead consider the likes of NLP as something you can embrace and run with for the rest of your life.
