What I Learned Doing All the exercises in "Figure Drawing Atelier" by Juliette Aristides (A Review)

Hello, everyone! Hope you are all keeping safe during this crazy time we are all experiencing now. #QuarantineLife
Today, I'm doing a book review of Juliette Aristides's second instructional sketchbook, FIGURE DRAWING ATELIER. I finished all the exercises from the book and just want to share what my experience was.
Spoiler alert!
I highly recommend this book. I have learned sooooo much from doing these exercises. If you are interested in atelier style of art school, Juliette's books are definitely a must-have!

Thanks for the indepth look at juliette's new book. I've got the other five books that she published but I'll defenently have to get this one. Wasn't sure if you, but Juliette teaches a atelier at the Gage Academy in Seattle.

Emmy MW - thank you for your recommendation- I will get all of her books as a collection, love her style and her books, so beautifully rendered- by the way, currently I am learning at ARA Toronto- learn a lot but it is very s-l-o-w process especially fo me, a super slow learner 😱

I have been drawing for few years, drawing with a grid changed everything, it’s a very useful tool, probably I could draw without it but with it I trust the proportions are 80-90% correct, when those proportions are right the shading gets easier. All I’m saying use more grid trust me, you practice with grid was very good.

I never really did grids before doing Juliette's book and it is definitely a game changer! I so agree with you 💯 Thanks for the comment, Ania😀

Grids are great when you begin and for accurate portraits, but you eventually want to wean yourself off of it or it will cripple you. Trust your eyes. It will take time, but using your eyes will help with not only the proportions but more importantly with seeing.

Hey there! I would start off with her book Lessons in Classical Drawing, and perhaps use the Beginning Drawing Atelier workbook, followed by the Figure Drawing Atelier workbook. Then, her books on oil painting. I really like the Lessons In Classical Painting:) Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

Regarding the book Lessons in Classical Drawing, is it supposed to have some kind of dvd or video links? cus I just got it for the kindle but it doesn't support my device so I was wondering if I got the physical book I would get the vids? if they're any important? then I'll refund the kindle version and order a physical one which costs 3 times as much:) thx again @@EmmyMW

I just checked and it does come with a DVD! It's been awhile since I watched it so I can't even remember what's in it, but yeah....unfortunately, with art books, I always recommend the physical book over the ebook just because it's easier to study the drawings/paintings. @@Spartacular
