Oatmeal and avocado toast is an excellent meal. I guess that such an intelligent person like Vika has zero knowledge in nutrition. I eat pelmeni maybe twice a year. It is delicious indeed but it is very unhealthy to eat it often. If she ate meat at lunch she shouldn't eat more meat at dinner, especially processed one. It has to be something light. Also, they use a lot of oil. As a nutritionist consultant I could say that their eating habits are just horrible. They have really bad nutrition diet in Russia, majority of population is not heathy there and life expectancy is pretty short there as well.

@@user-ru1ki I have not placed this comment in order to discuss nutritional value, but variety in the content of youtubers recently. Also, she mentions several times that eating habits in Russia (and if i can add Eastern Europe) differs quite a lot from America.

First time that I see a normal, happy couple with a child living a normal life on KZread or any social media for that matter. I live in the province of Québec, Canada in a town called St-Jérôme and I'm living in a room that I rent in a hotel built 145 years ago that has been turned into a room renting facility. It's a very quiet placeand I like it in here.

FINALLY I found a mom who gives her daughter the same as she eats!!!!!!! Whenever any of my in-law family or friends come into my house stars with the song "our pediatrician say......". Fot data: Our girl has 15 months. Shes been eating the same as us since she was 6 m/o. ITS OK! Your pediatrician says that no sugar until 10 y/o, just organic vegetables and blend everything and my daughter can eat a whole fully chocolate muffin without breathing. My daughter eats everything and specially enjoys fish; she eats just what my husband and me have for lunch or dinner and shes healthier than all the babies I know, also, she has no allergies (people also has to opine about our 2 giant dogs and our 2 cats interacting with her and concern us about ñiñiñi allergy, rashes...........). So THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! Finally, a normal mom, growing a NORMAL girl. Greets from Spain, mate :)

I am Jewish and my family is from Russia- my dad always makes that first dish with the cottage cheese and eggs that he learned from his grandmother but he never knew the name! This is so cool to see a little piece of my heritage in a video. 🥰

My grandpa wich I love with all my heart married a Russian woman, and she made pelmeni for us whenever I visited, and now as an adult I eat frozen premade Palmeni whenever I am sad or sick because it’s the ultimate comfort food and I remember my granddad and my lovely grandma taking care of me. It was always served with Schmand (Similar to sour cream), butter, salt and a lot of pepper. Thank you for reminding me of the little things that count ❤️

Very refreshing. I was never into those ''look at my perfect fake, hipster life'' youtubers. There's a place for everybody in the world, but when everybody is doing the same thing at some point it just comes across as showy and fake, 'cause it's just everybody competing for who has the most perfect life, and eats the healthiest avocado toast and the most organic oatmeal. It was all the ultimate brag fest. This channel is just completely refreshing, in showing the reality of what actually constitutes most people in the world, not just that of the ''playing modest, fake humble, while actually being well to do'' Western hipsters. The only thing worse than a bragger is a fake-humble bragger. This channel brings it back to grounded reality and sanity.

I love how you are able to sit together and all eat the same food with your little one :) you and your husband seem so friendly and it makes me so happy!

I live in Bulgaria now. And I love it. Like here is so much more "real" than my previous life in the UK. People care way more about playing with their children than working overtime and buying a new SUV. I have lived here 12 years and people here are much happier people than the average in the UK, yet they are much poorer financially.

@@piccalillipit9211 - I moved from NY to Alaska 30 years ago and we LOVE it. I love the cold weather and long beautiful white winters. I like the dark too. I feel all cozy inside my warm home. I cannot stand hustle and bustle of city life. We have family there, but, we have no desire to move back ever.

No matter where you are from, no matter when you where born your dad always "does not cook often" but he knows one or two dishes that he cooks to perfection and is very professional about :D

I cook all the meals for my family I cooked a huge Thanksgiving dinner and today I took the Turkey stock I made, the remaining turkey, onions, celery, carrots, and potatoes and a few spices and salt and pepper and made a big pot of turkey vegetable soup.

This is so cool! I was adopted from Russia, now in America. My parents never brought me up learning about my Russian culture (which I understand they aren’t Russian) But it’s cool to see how you make everything and the real foods you eat, very different from American food!

Your husband is so smiley! It's nice to see. You all look genuinely happy to be around each other.

There is no time in the U.S. to cook these days. I hope your stomach is not a size of a yoga ball...You must be a different American because all Americans I know, eat 3 times a day just like the rest of the world. Where do I buy milk that tastes like milk? I buy HEB milk and even the Promised Land milk, but it’s still not the real milk...

We have a few Russian grocery stores here in San Francisco. We bought a package of frozen pelmeni and made it with sour cream and a delicious mushroom gravy. I think it was the best meal we've cooked at home!

@@thelmabelda5447 here’s a recipe for the cookies Pryaniki recipe 1 cup sugar 4-5 T honey 100 g (just under one stick) butter 1/4 cup water 3 cups flour (approx) 3/4 t. Baking soda 1-3 t. Mixed spices, ground. Can include cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ground ginger, black pepper, allspice, anise (This mixture was called сухие духи (dry perfume) in the old days, a nod to the preciousness of spices obtained in trade with India and the East, and it varied from region to region and from time to time based on availability.) Use your favorites or what is available to you, less for a gently spiced cookie, more for a stronger spice flavor. Optional sugar glazing 1/2 cup confectioners sugar (powdered) 2 T lemon or orange juice Combine all ingredients except flour and soda in thick bottomed pot and heat to thoroughly dissolve the sugar and melt the butter. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and slowly stir in half of the flour. Allow to come to room temp - either place by a cold window or make a pan ice bath in a bowl that you can place your pot in. Once cooled, mix in two egg yolks (reserve whites). Preheat the oven to 360 F. To the remaining flour, stir in 3/4 tsp baking soda and mix well. Slowly add this flour mixture to the dough. Once the dough is too thick to stir with a spoon, turn out onto a floured surface and with floured hands, gently knead the dough until it is smooth and only slightly tacky, roughly the consistency of playdough. Divide the dough into two portions. Cover the reserved portion with damp towel or cling wrap to keep from drying out. Roll the other half out on floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use cookie cutter or juice glass to cut rounds or shapes from the dough. Place on baking sheet (parchment or baking pad can be helpful to keep from sticking, but not critical) and bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes. Optional filling Use fruit paste (quince is delicious), mashed dried fruits and nuts (prunes or apricot alone or with walnuts, raisins - it may help to steam or soak the dried fruit to make it soft enough to mash), thickened jam, jam mixed with ground nuts - the key is to form a fairly dry paste and not use a runny jam that will leak out of your honey cakes. The remaining portion can either be refrigerated for up to a week or rolled out now and baked. For filled cookies, roll slightly thinner dough and cut two shapes to form the cookie. Recommended - one slightly larger rectangle and one slightly smaller one. Place filling in the center of the larger rectangle and place the smaller rectangle on top. Fold the bottoms edges up and over the top layer and press with a fork to seal.

There are Russian and Ukrainian (same food basically) stores and restaurants in Los Angeles and New York, that you could try. Uzbek cuisine is great also, and something most russians eat, not just Muslims.

I just made гречка с подливкой. I’ve never eaten buckwheat in my life until now. Purchased it at a Russian Market we have in our town. I have to say it was delicious and very filling. A lot of leftovers for another meal. Also picked up some pulmeni and will have that for a later meal. Thanks for the recipes.

I hope you liked pelmeni. One of my favorite dishes, but the taste depends greatly on the quality of filling. One can eat them with various small additions. I like pelmeni with vinegar, tomato sauce and black pepper (all at the same time). You can also try buckwheat with milk, it's a popular dish too. You just pour milk into cooked buckwheat, kind of like you do with cereal. But it's usually eaten warm or hot, and salty rather than sweet. Take care!

@@marlenedurbala6238 Most things are made with the same ingredients you will find in most supermarkets , there are a few that are kind of unique to Russia and other slavic countries but not many , just differnt ways of cooking them and cooking some things in a way that seems a bit alien , like frying carrots for borsch

So very interesting! I have Polish heritage, but my grandfather was very proud of the fact that he could speak Russian. I had a co-worker from Latvia, and she had sour cream with just about everything! When I was in college, I went to New York City and had lunch at The Russian Tearoom. They had “borscht” on the menu and treated it like a delicacy. When it was served, I said “This is beet soup!” My grandmother made this all the time!” I never thought of it as a delicacy. 😀😀😀

Finally a normal girl !! Authenticity and no fake!! I am definitely following!!

In Germany nearly every bigger grocery store has a department with russian food or even a whole russian store in the city, because many Russians live in Germany. So it would be easy for me to get the ingedients for a delicious russian meal!😃 Love and hugs to you and your lovely family!😘♥️

Hello! I live in Preston county, West Virginia, US and buckwheat is a traditional crop grown here. However, it is usually ground into flour and made into pancakes! There is an annual Buckwheat Festival held in September where buckwheat pancakes are served with pork sausage patties and maple syrup, all made locally. Its delicious! You can buy all kinds of groats, not only buckwheat, not only in a Russian shops, but also for over 100 years in every Polish shop, whether Ukrainian or Jewish one. Different types of groats are an important element of Slavic cuisine (like pasta in Italy). European Jews, who emigrated to the USA mainly from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, took the groats from the Slavs to their cuisine (and also, for example, pickled (salty) cucumbers, many types of forest mushrooms or gingerbread). So if you want, you can buy groats in America quite easily.

Buckwheat is traditionally used for porridge in Ukraine , not wheat oats like in England , i have tried it and will eat it but prefer wheat oats porridge , just what you are used to i guess

I just tried making these little “ fried cakes”. Probably weren’t as good as yours but I thought they were good. I had mine with homemade cherry jam.

My family comes from Russia, but my great grandparents escaped the persecution of Catholics during the Bolshevik Revolution and migrated to Canada. I’m Canadian, but love my Russian roots. Love your channel!

When I was 14 years old I had a russian friend and we always cooked together with her mum. We made pelmeni ourselfs and it was so delicious 😍 I wish I had the recipe. My favorite german dish (I'm from Hamburg so northern part of germany) is Sauerfleisch mit Bratkartoffeln (it's porkmeat in flavoured aspic and fried potatoes)😋

Russian food is so good! I really miss the juice and yogurt! So much more variety in Russian and Ukraine then in the states. Blini, Borscht, Tefteli, Golobsti and of course Pelmeni were some of my favorite meals. 🤤

Slavic vibes! Buckwheat is my main source of food since I'm intolerant to gluten, I'd recommend anyone to try savory buckwheat crepes (made with buckwheat flour) if you haven't already 🥰

We eat pierogi in USA but only because my husbands family is Polish descent. We love all pierogi, mushroom, cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom and plum.

I LOVE Russian food! It's down-to-earth real and wholesome - no phony nonfat "cheese", nasty protein powders, or endless obsessing about calories.

I know some people and my own family included that makes our own dumplings but it's family tradition and a huge family affair. Everyone, even the small children, help in the process. We make hundreds at a time and freeze it!

In Kazakhstan my family always makes homemade pelmeni (dumplings) and then freeze them. I personally don't like pelmeni from store.

I’d love to see a normal day in the life vlog! The daily stuff like cooking, eating, cleaning, playing etc

My wife is a Russian immigrant to the US along with her mother. I have learned a lot of Russian dishes. Being half Slovak I already knew numerous dishes that are very similar to their Russian versions. I have made Sarniki many times I make my own farmers cheese when I do, because my wife and mother-in-law like it much better than any commercially available cheese I have tried.

Hello Vika! Your channel appeared in my KZread suggestions yesterday and I immediately fell in love with it! I am French and I am very interested in Russia and Russian culture. I visited Moscow and Saint-Petersburg ten years ago and two days ago I was thinking how much I would like to go back to Russia and see smaller cities and villages. Of course, cuisine and food are always a big part of a culture and this video is great! I have learned how to make homemade pelmenis but I still need practice because they are still far away from perfection hahaha! I love how simple and authentic your channel and videos are! My DNA said I am mostly Russian, Czech and German. So, I'm exploring some of the foods of those countries. I enjoyed your different meals for the day. We have eggs, bacon, coffee and toast for breakfast. Today we had ham, buttered potatoes, mixed vegetables, tea and fresh mixed fruit for lunch/dinner. For supper we had ground smoked turkey and gravy over toast, milk and with cheesecake. It was all very good, but you can see why Americans are a little heavy. Enjoying you from the Gulf Coast of Texas.

I am Lithuanian, and these meals are very similar to what we eat! Its making me very hungry actually. We love our potato!

I had a Russian meal in London (I live in Scotland and our international cuisine options are kinda lacking except for pizza, Japanese and curry), it was some of the best food I’ve ever eaten - delicious! The staff were all really polite too.

My husband and I have been to Russia in 2016. My husband had business there. We saw these block apartments only from the outside I appreciate the tour!. We visited Moscow and St. Petersburg. We stayed in two very nice hotels which I know would be beyond the means of most Russians. We saw some very depressed areas, but also some lovely ones. The history there is amazing and the trip was very illuminating. We visited the Hermitage, churches, palaces, cemeteries , restaurants, the Metro, the Kremlin, etc. Learned and experienced so many things. I never thought it was a place I would ever go, but was so glad fir the opportunity and all the memories. Than you for your insider look at Russian life!

Your evening meal looks a lot like the dumplings we make here. They are available frozen but we like to buy the ready made wrappers from the Korean shop and prepare a minced meat and finely chopped vegetables filling to wrapped it in. We often wrap them like the ones you made. Delicious after cooking in boiling water for a few minutes and we eat them with hot chillie sauce or soy sauce. Lovely to see that some things are very similar even in far away places. Beautiful baby Agatha. 😍❤ kind regards from New Zealand 🇳🇿❤.

My love for pilmeni may be as strong as yours, from what I saw. Ive lived in Florida for almost 30 years now, and have completely Americanized. But pilmeni are seriously part of my heart which I can’t change no matter what.

Pelmini was one of my favorite meals....I still prepare it when I can find it frozen! I also used to make a stir fried pelmini with various veggies and a lovely asian type sauce! But served with sour cream is THE best!

I’m Hungarian!! I live in America. My grandparents and mom and uncles came here in 1953. They taught me how to cook Hungarian foods so I cook a lot of dishes for my family. I would love to come visit one day!!
