20 Things I No Longer Buy | EXTREME MINIMALISM

Here is a list of 20 things that I don't buy anymore as a minimalist. These are just my personal preferences and I'm sure that this lifestyle definitely won't work for everybody. I'm more dedicated to sort of an extreme version of minimalism so I didn't include here very basic things but tried to pick more interesting items.
Thank you for watching and for all of your support and kindness! I appreciate it a lot💛

Guys, I’ve just noticed that I used the wrong word!😂 On 15:00 it’s MAGAZINES actually, not JOURNALS😅 (In Russian language the word magazine sounds the same as “journal” so I kinda mixed them up, sorry💛)

My thoughts. Example: If you own 4 plates and 6 cups then make them nice. Why not? In the end you still have 4 plates and 6 cups but they are nice. The only difference is they will be esthetically pleasing. There is nothing wrong with owning nice things. You can still be a minimalist. A minimalist with nice things.

But it's against minimalist mindset to replace a functional piece with a more pleasing one just because. Certainly once a plate breaks a nicer one, or better quality one can be bought to replace it 😊 Sadly many of the minimalist youtubers I see just replace their functional tupperware with mason jars etc. for the aesthetic alone and create more unnecessary trash in the process

You can be a minimalist and still have a collection of something. As long as it truly brings you joy, and you are fairly minimal with most other things. I have lots of house plants. I make sure that all my pots are white so that it doesn't look cluttered and clashing colours and I'm eliminating pretty much all my other decor/knick knacks etc. Houseplants are my decor. Very wise advice. Here's a good piece of old-school advice that still works. It came from Amy Vanderbilt, who wrote an etiquette book many years ago. It's what I do, and it has worked well for me for many years -- well, since the old school days. LOL

I've been living a minimalist lifestyle for nearly30 years now - I'll be 74 in a couple of months. I built my own tiny house back in 2014, the entire inside is finished off in native yellow poplar wood cut and milled less than a mile from where I'm located. The tiny house is not wired for electricity, I use kerosene lamps and small solar lights, I heat and cook with a woodstove, I use a non-flush composting toilet, I use two of the garden pump-up sprayers for my pressurized water (a stainless steel one for doing dishes and a plastic on for washing hands and taking a shower). I haven't owned a motor vehicle since 1998, I own three mountain bikes and a recumbent trike that I built back in 2005. I have a large raised-bed garden and raise quail. I only spend approximately $300 per month, I do not have any bills everything I have is paid for. I wouldn't ever consider going back to the rat race, consumer driven lifestyle that I used to be a part of.

I absolutely LOVE your list!! I have stopped buying all the things you've listed, and I have saved more money than ever in my past. All the things you list just create a huge amount of clutter. I found, like you, that I used certain favorite items (1 handbag, five or six favorite clothing items, etc.) The rest just made my house feel like a storage space. And as far as music, I love it, but I can find and listen to most things on KZread. You are very smart to have started this so early in life. It took me longer!! 😅 I love your channel. 💖

I am a bit of a minimalist but not necessarily by choice. Lol. We just don't have the money to buy most things. Our rent is 1800. per month our grocery bill is 1000. Canadain. Utilities, cellphones and TV about 700 per month. It is somewhat expensive here. Gas is 1.20 a liter. We play board games with our kid's, bike and swim in our river. We are minimalists with dishes only because our kid's keep breaking them and losing our utensils at school. We started buying all our dishes at the second hand store when our kids started being able to help clean up after dinner. I am thankful for your videos.

I really do love your channel. I often think that you and your beautiful little family are an inspiration to others who live a want, want , want throw away lifestyle. One thing saddens me however, the lack of music in your life! Music is not only for entertainment. It can be inspirational and uplifting as well as calming and soothing, especially if you sometimes feel overwhelmed by things as you mentioned. You didn't mention if your little treasure Agatha doesn't have access to music, but it would be heartbreaking if that were the case! Being minimalist shouldn't mean that you cannot access the beauty that is around us in the world and music is up there with some of the more beautiful things.

I recently was going through sentimental childhood type stuff and came across a heavy stack of like 20 magazines and after ripping out my name on quiz pages and having a quick trip down memory lane at which i was mostly horrified at the sort of materialistic self obsessed sexist nonsense inside the magazines i realised i was happy i kept them so i could see and feel how much id changed from when i was 16 and had genuinely loved and enjoyed that rubbish! Poor teenage me im glad that awful stuff didnt rub off on me and im even more glad that ive changed so much that i can more than happily run to the bin and gleefully watch them go inside the icky bin where they belong. 😂 if i ever have a daughter or even son theyre not going anywhere near such horrible media at the very least until i teach them how to recognise the manipulative degrading marketing and when theyre already sure and confident in themselves teenagers especially shouldnt be seeing any of that toxic stuff. My mother is the type who reads magazines herself so she had no issues with me reading them i wish she had but at that age i probably wouldnt have listened anyway! Haha
