Just remember, in 40k, a 19mm selfpropelled armor piercing bullet that explodes after impact for deep damage isn't seen as overkill, it's just another bullet.

If you are talking about a bolt round, they are way bigger than 19mm. Somewhere between 50mm and 80mm depending on source.

When the pirates that he saved from the monster demanded to know why one of the dread crustaceans was afraid of a little runt like him, he explained: "When they began the conquest of our system, we told them to back off. In retaliation for our 'insolence', they captured a merchant cruiser and ate everyone onboard alive, while broadcasting the... meal. They did this to put us in our place. The next day, we blew up their most densely populated star with a solar lance. They LISTEN to us now."

I love “it’s not the great band galaxy” You already know, this isn’t the Milky Way, humanity has other galaxies, and they don’t mind jumping around It would be cool that the Milky Way is the only galaxy without life beyond human So humanity just never had to struggle against another species to get control, so it easily became a type 2 ahead of everyone else, then by the time it could jump across galaxies, every other civilization was merely a type 1.5 Enough for humanity to show compassion and respect, but not enough to even be a bump for the humans to cross over

Interesting story. As for overkill, who decides if something is overkill?🤔 Seems to me that the loser probably does. In a conflict there are usually two possible outcomes: win, or lose. When dealing with violent aggressors it's better that they lose and you win. Achieving this sometimes requires extreme measures, but the cost of losing to the violently aggressive enemy can be too high a price to pay, necessitating extreme measures to win.😲

Overkill can be decided by the victor as well when doing the math afterward on how much force/resources was needed vs how much was actually used. For example if I used an rpg to kill an annoying fly vs using a flyswatter I’d say it was an overkill move even though in both scenarios I was the victor.

It's funny that the term "The whole Nine Yards" is used to describe the lengths humanity will go to in pursuit of their goals. Considering that phrase grew to popularity after both worlds wars, where Vickers machine gun ammunition came in 6 and then 9 yard long belts. Giving the whole Nine Yards was just unloading the entire belt. Very human 😂

I'd like to believe that humanity has SLIGHTLY more standards than this when it comes to overkill, although unfortunately, I could see us all too easily losing those standards if we became a multi-galactic civilization. On a completely random note, does anyone here think the phrase "sir, there is a multi-legged creature crawling on your shoulder."(from star trek) will become a popular thing to reference once day-to-day life looks like like the show the quote originated from? lasty, I'm pretty sure by "multi-legged creature" Spock meant tarantula. Who here agrees with that?
