What Happens When Bike Tires Are Filled With Helium?
Today we are filling bike tires with helium, sulfur hexafluoride, and even water! Will the bike still be rideable? Will the bike tires be able to bounce?

The natural slight imbalances in a pneumatic tire are generally negated by the air gently compressing and releasing. The weight of the water would magnify the tire imbalance.

@digus
3 жыл бұрын
@@santhony1978 the first one was definitely angled up a bit- but the the later ones, especially the helium drop were pretty well dead nuts on center height. Because the tire is so very close to the scale, parallax error would be pretty minimal from that distance- especially when you consider the camera was a minimum 3-4’ away. I’d be willing to concede a few degrees angle, possibly an inch - but I think its pretty obvious that taking accurate measurements for this video was the last thing on their minds.
For best results: put an E.T in the front basket.

Well Gas type definitely matters when it comes to fields that need high performance or high consistency such as racing and commercial aviation as both of those fields fill their tires with pure nitrogen. But they care mostly about the reduction in water content, increased consistency, and the fact that nitrogen behaves roughly the same at various operating temperatures. but it would be nice to see the differences if possible with the other gasses because i'm not sure how stable the volume of them are with a temp increase. unfortunately it would be to unsafe to do the testng on a real race car at temp

Me living in the Netherlands belike: omg this is crazy and amazing
I personally filled a tire full of sand (without a tube in it) and ran into an interesting problem... Because I didn't have a valve to put the sand through, I was left with an air "bubble" at the top of the tire. While spinning, this mean the sand could slide around inside the tire. This made for some very interesting feelings, especially when the 'bubble' decided to make a full loop.

Omg loved the vid
What was the difference in weight for each and could you get a competitive bicyclists to do a lengthy ride to give a more in depth standpoint of them?
You can buy a water hose to schrader valve adapter at a tractor dealership with an air bleeder. There is air in an inner tube, even when deflated, unless you take out the valve and squeeze the tube flat. As you fill the tire with water, the water displaces the air space in the inner tube, so you get a tire full of water and compressed air. You put the valve stem at the top and hit the bleeder and it releases the air that was in the tube before you filled it with water, then you can have a tire FULL of air.
Wow... the guest seems super excited to be there.

Great video

OMG THE LEATHER JACKET AND SUNGLASSES 😎🤩

Thank you guys for doing this I wanted to do this
Water is put in tires all the time in farming and construction. Usually you remove the valve body from inside the stem and put it at the height on the rim you want the water to be at. The rest is filled with air so that you can run the tires at a much lower pressure without risking the bead breaking loose.
I love watching things go boom or burn XD
Nate is looking pretty swag in this video
please try that one day
Nate there is a big reason to hook a water hose to a tire. A ton of construction equipment have water filled tires for weight, and there is a special tool that hooks to the hose and the tire.
What a cool idea.
Would be interesting to know if there is some Gyroscopic effect going on with the water which is why it is making it harder to turn since the water will continue spinning after the wheel slows down.
It’s a better work out with water! Lol 😂
They do fill tires with water to make them healthier it's more for construction and agricultural uses. They make special pumps that spend a set time to fill then switches to a vacuum to take out air and this is always done with the valve stem in the 12 o clock position. Sometimes the valve core is also twice as big
That's all ready been done
Nice jacket, looks sick.
They used to and sometimes still put water is tractor tires as a means of lowering the center of gravity and increasing the tractor weight for stability, an actual use for garden hose to schrader valve attatchment
I am very sleepy but I want to watch this
Can you please do some life hacks please like the old time’s
imagkne if the bike tire just flew away lmaoo
Jup, thats exactly what i expected.
5:00 calli remembers something
Love to see you try it with car wheels
I actually work in auto retail, and they make a attachment for putting water in tires, it’s meant for water in tractor tires for weight. And if you get a small hole you have longer times before it deflates
how are you measuring it are you measuring it from the bottom Tire or from the center of the rim when you drop it because they all look a different positions to me and not just what you are predicting
I can remember farmers used to put water in tractor tyres to help with traction
you should try freeze drying a stretch armstrong
Fantastic
You should try the same experiment using all terrain bicycle tires which are much bigger
Diggin the jacket
Water valve to Schrader valve! That's funny and interesting!
0:21 in the middle summer .. in the lift winter .. in the right winter ..
I like the Fact Nate has decided to put on his black attire
You guys are hilarious, there was a pressure gauge on the pump.
If you went fast with water filled tires would there be a gyroscopic effect when turning?
cool, now I can play Basketwheel
Guys you are the best you tubers ever you are the best
Water filling tires is actually a thing, in fact I own a "Slime" branded kit/hose adapter for doing just that, water filled tires are used for farm tractors for added weight and traction.
Seeing how much weight a bik can hold
45 psi is about 3 bar, which is normal for a gardenhose. you might get it up to 5 bar if you adjust the pressure gauge but you also risk to damage your home installations.
Gasses confined in a chamber create pressure, the type of gas you use changes how much/little gas is needed to reach your desired psi. Should have weighed every tire after filling them to see if the mass changes depending on the gas used.
@inertial_salmon
3 жыл бұрын
Assuming that these were ideal gasses, the amount used would probably not have changed much/at all
