What happens on a road trip with Richard Hammond and Mike Fernie?

In early 2023, Mike and Richard took their supercharged V8 cars to their respective favourite roads in the UK, them being in Buttermere and Aberfoyle. Here is a behind the scenes look at what went down!

I love how Richard didn’t even have to think about his seventh car, he just instantly remembered. That tells you about his passion for cars right there.

I feel like I’ve been “cruising” with Richard for well over a decade. Must be nice being the elder on this trip & not the baby. Well, mentally he was at times the child but not always.

I appreciate the random question thrown in regarding the old tv programs. You ask stuff that I'm sure everybody else has wondered about. Did they change their own tires or not?

My only car accident in the UK was in Wales and I blame it on the useless SatNav giving late and ambiguous directions resulting in our driving on a road the width of a pencil.

Ahhh, you see the problem there, is you're in Wales. That's a major thoroughfare in those parts. Only the largest sheep are allowed to traverse it. You're in the wrong vehicle for Wales, in that yours has wheels, instead of legs. Sure, you'll be more prepared next time, love.

For these journeys PLEASE put a camera forwards facing the road. There are a lot of dash cam videos on KZread these days, and they're perfect viewing if you have insomnia- just the right blend of stimulating and dull to help you sleep. Having long videos of just the road with one of the trio talking over the top would bring in more views than you would think, and would highlight some nice routes

ID absolutely love that! just unedited footage of the road with the occasional bit of speech would be perfect. Just as long as its at least an hour

@@jako1234567890jako Here in Australia a tv channel did it with train journeys as part of an experiment in 'slow television'- it got the highest ratings in a year. Same thing in Norway. Having long car journeys from the trio would bring in the numbers and give us some behind the scenes insights (plus it would be cheap and easy to make)

Stop using hand held CB! Although it's legal in the 27MHz range, you can still be imprisoned for careless or reckless driving in the event of an accident. Driving one handed whilst operating the CB, remembering the scene plot and talking to camera surely can't always be safe. I can only assume that hand helds make for better content than hands free?

considering they (JC, RH, and JM) drive cars for a living and do it well (with some mishaps that mostly happen off of any actually recognized road and are majority staged) and that they most likely have been given permission to film the way they do and use CB the way they do where they are specifically filming, and have been for YEARS i don't think they would ever be imprisoned for it, again given they most likely operate under legality and permits. since the trio have experience with this stuff, that would carry over to other endeavors that just one has embarked on, so i'm sure that RH also has the go ahead by local law enforcement and the local government to operate DT the way he does in regards to filming.
