I BOUGHT A BROKEN FIAT 500L FROM A CAR AUCTION
Hi all in this video I am at aston barclay motor auctions picking up a recent purchase. A vehicle I have not sold before, a Fiat 500l In 1.6 Diesel form. Now the car seems very cheap but is there good reason for that ? lets find out.

Car?
Absolutely nothing wrong with a fiat. Easy to work on and they are reliable enough. Any car is unreliable in the wrong hands
My daughter has one of those in red…same engine as yours, pulls like hell and touch wood has been very reliable.
A few people having a pop at fiat vehicles, I feel is a tad harsh, because my experience with having own 4 fiat Ducati vans over 20 years has been good, never let me down. It maybe that I was always making sure they had the correct service at the correct time. Some people run vehicles and never maintain them properly and wonder why they brake down.

My mum got a Fiat Panda from new. Always looked after it with FSH and interim 5k oil services. Most unreliable car ever, ended up getting rid of it after 5 years of hell. Everything went wrong.

When I started trading in the early eighties, an old experienced trader told me that the only way to find out if a specific make and model is a good seller is to buy one. Then you will soon find out what it's really worth. Enjoying your videos.
We ❤ the yellow 500. It's like Tracy the barmaid in eastenders - we know it's there, we love it when it pops up, but we will be devastated when it goes 😂

I have a Yellow 🟡 one too and the dealer never told me clutch and gearbox was bad 😞 cost me near a grand to put right but it runs well now 🙂🌈👍
An underrated model I think. My daughter had one for 3 years and it was faultless. Bet it sells quickly
Fiat designed Multijet diesels are really good engines in my experience, My company has had Iveco daily vans in the past with the Fiat Multijet diesels and they were bomb proof, After a spell with Merc sprinters we are now going back to Iveco's!
I had a 1.6 diesel 500L and have to say it was a lovely car. I have had a VW golf and a seat after, and it was better than both of them in it. I didn't have any problems. The only fault with it was the dealership.
A friend of mine was widowed, nearly 10 years ago, and bought one of these new ( 1.6D ) without taking advice. She drove it locally in Lancashire, putting 17,000 miles on it in three years. Careful Lady driver, bodywork was fine .... it cost her £1700 to get it through the first MOT, and the work done was genuinely needed !

Why would you buy a diesel if you're going to drive 17000 miles in three years??!
This car has almost everything, except one, it's roomy, practical, reasonable interior, cheap to buy and run.....but by god they have been hit with the ugly stick numerous times! It's like I say to my old Dad about his Mokka, it's far better to be in it than look at it 🤮
Got a fiat van never ever had a problem and I've put over a hundred thousand miles on it 😎👍

If I were in the market for something like that I'd definitely buy it if it had some decent history. The fact that it's a diesel would frighten me a bit but if you say they're generally OK, with your level of experience and your own warranty I'd trust you and buy it over an older quashkai any day. A good little purchase there mate!
I run a fiat panda as a runaround, great wee car for the money, and has been very reliable.
hi lee if you don't take a chance you'll never win i think that's a good buy im in the trade myself and i always found that the odd ball cars always make the most money as they can be bought cheaper you have an onsite workshop that's worth it weight in gold hard to get mechanics these days love the channel it's my favourite you deserve the good margins as you work hard and a really decent bloke keep pumping out the content greeting from Ireland
Nice job there on the Fiat! 👍🏻 Some nice little storage touches in the cabin. I think it is good value. Good luck with it.
Another cracking and honest video review. The 500L is a bargain for someone 👍🏾
Own a Fiat...walk for miles Own a Lexus....drive in style
Personally I think you did pretty well there, 500L a quirky motor but would have this over a Qashqai. up for good price on your lot, all the best, great to see an honest dealer! Keep up the good work!
Hi there Lee, Thanks for taking me around Whitchurch up by waymills and out on the Nantwich road. country side looking well. Cheers Jim in NZ.
Great videos mate, really interesting, love how you have a few 207s in stock, iv had my little 1.4 diesel one for over a year and can't fault it, great little cars
Great wee video honest to the point . Always liked them for the room looks great nice in black as you say you know so hope you do well .a lot just put it out there and say nothing . Should be more like you.❤
Nice bit of stock for the pitch👍🏻

I’ve had a 500X 1.6D for a couple of years now (66 plate) and it’s been faultless so far! Yes I’ve been told that it’ll inevitably break but nothing yet that hasn’t been a service item!
Another top class video Lee. Still no dead ferret seatbelt protectors though
Great buy......seems like a looked after car which is rare these days
Great looking car, i have driven one in Spain wasn't that happy with the car, but you showing this video has made me think again, Great video Lee 👍
Peter Kay liked his red one in car share lol seems a decent motor that lee can bet wont be in stock long at that price as well!
Good stuff Lee
More bad owners than bad cars unfortunately, Lots of people just don't want to spend money on maintainice, Fiat Vauxhall Peugeot etc seem to attract this type of owner in my experience.
Good straight video
Freddie dobbs a biker vlogger on here got an 09 1.2 500 done 220k miles
I really like this style of vid.similar to high peak autos showing the honest journey of getting a car to pitch..numbers and work involved..it instills confidence..our next car will be from here as its our price range and the cars are prepped right..unlike the dealers that will sort what u can spot..love the content
Go for it, looks a reasonable little motor.

1.6 is good spec. I work for fiat service
I think its time the yellow Fiat 500 had its own KZread chamnel Lee. 😂
I owned a 2014 Fiat 500L MPW 7 Seater 1.3 Diesel Multijet Version, yes it was underpowered you just get used to the low power, we owned it from a year old, so around 9 years, and only recently part ex it with Berrow Motors (Shifting Metal) we liked It and was a practical car and very reliable, the only things we had done to it apart from services, tyres etc, after about 8 years it needed new glow plugs and the Gear Stick was getting stiff when trying to get into some gears, sounding like the one you have. Ours wasn't the clutch, it needed the gear linkages changing so maybe the same for yours thanks.
Definitely a good buy that 500L, looks a lot of car at 3.5k retail. Strange how people still bash Fiat's? I have sold loads of 500'S & Panda's over the years especially the 1.2 Fire engine. One of my neighbours still has a 2006 Panda I sold them about 8 Years ago 😂
Nice car Lee. This will sell easily. Great family car
Good buy that one
Have a 1.6 bullet proof Doblo my sons wheelchair wagon outstanding.
Great video and content. The Fiat 500s have a bad rep, but they have some issues like other cars. I was watching Valley Auto's on KZread, and they try and buy them at auctions. Keep the videos coming.
had one for five years passed every mot new pads on the front two tyres £20 tax roomy comfortable good on fuel would have another one any time engine never missed a beat fiat mechanic regular oil change you never have a problem with it he was right
People living in the 80’s fiats aren’t as they were
My first car was a fiat regatta , anyone remember them? Was a great runner but back in the day fiats had a reputation for rusting.... don't know if that's still the case.
Said befoe ive never had a bad Fiat ,diesel or petrol mibbe i was just lucky but like them
We looked at the 500L a few years back when looking at Motability deals. Really impressed with the car, the deal on Motability was extremely good and it made our shortlist. Only thing that put us off was the absolutely awful dealer staff!
I’ve had loads of fiats in the past and none were any trouble . I currently have a 67 plate Skoda fabia dsg I’ve owned it for the last four years years. And it’s been faultles
Forgot about these larger 500s, also made me think of the Multipla for some reason, remember that? Never see them on the road now.

yes they were not the best looking vehicle ever made🤣👍
Nice car, I'm looking atm & seriously, would buy it for my son who needs a cheap car for work. We run two Fiats and both have been little trouble from new.
Definitely know your job well long gone are the days of good and bad manufacturers they all have their issues some are worse than other
Hello Lee, Oh, Lee, this Fiat 500 is bloody lovely looking, 2014, great colour, lovely interior. By the time you're finished with a good Valet, it will be A1, mate. £1650 is a great buy, Lee. I see a nice payday 👌 with this Fiat 500. It looks far bigger with the four doors than the two, lol. 😅. Great video again, Lee. Great day at work, keep it up, buddy. 👌👍🥰🇮🇪
I have always thought that the 500L looks more like a Panda than a 500. Perhaps they should have called it the Giant Panda. I have a 500x with the 1.4 multiair turbo petrol engine which we have owned for nearly 5 years and has proved utterly reliable. I also have a 1994 Punto Cabrio which is still going strong with no rot and a reliable 1.6 engine. A friend of mine has always had VWs which over the years have proved far more troublesome than the variety of marques which I have owned, including Nissan, Mitsubishi, Fiat and Jaguar.
Hi Lee 👋 Big fan of your channel been watching you from the start . Love your pragmatic approach to what you do. You talk a lot of sense. Little question I don’t recall seeing selling an Nissan Micras I would of thought the the small petrol engine Micras would be right up your street. Or is there issues with them I don’t know about? Keep doing what you’re doing it’s great 👍🏻.

My wife had one of those Fiat 500L’s but hers was the 1.3 auto diesel. Lovely car to drive and very comfortable. Ours was a 63 plate. Once decided to take the dog for a walk on the beach at Hunstanton (we live in Chesterfield) so it was a 3 hour drive each way in the 500L and she achieved 70mpg. My wife just wasn’t a fan of the auto box on it because it was, shall we say, quirky. You had to plan to go and press the accelerator a couple of seconds before the car would actually move. Once you got used to it then it was fine though and we had it for 3 years without issue.

The autos are notorious for reliability issues and expensive to fix
To be fair to Fiat since ive repaired the Gearbox bearing and Clutch on my 1.2 2013 lounge model not had any more issues in 2500 miles of driving thought to be honest ive lost faith with it and will cut my losses , I paid £3 grand for it a few months back and have been offered £2300 mine has 84k on the clock so yeah best to get rid while its working well lol , My advice if you want good cars that wont come back to your dealership buy Hyundai , Mitsubishi , Toyota , Honda etc
I noticed camera soon went off mr car park man when you suggested going back on holiday might cheer him up 🤣🤣🤣

Funny you mentioned Corsas. I had one with 100k on, with the Fiat 1.3 diesel. The head gasket went and after a strip down it was going to cost well over £700 in parts to put right, as all the breathers/EGR etc needed replacing also. It was garage serviced from new, but 10k interval was obviously far too long. I would guess that 5k oil changes would have made this a viable repair. As it was, it was broken for parts, as nobody was selling engines, as that seems to be the weakest link.
Nothing wrong with Fiats. Great cars to drive.
a car of that age and that mileage is bound to have some issues - if it hasn't then somebody spent a shed load on it about a fortnight before it went to the block
A nice car that. I had a test drive in a petrol one, thought it was really nice, super comfortable and a little quirky which for me makes these interesting actually.
youre certainly Mad. But it helps in youre game. Great vid s
You simply go that extra mile Lee. Doing the Paintwork and popping clutches in willy nilly just to make sure you do the best for your customers. Keep it going. Fiat isn't my cup of tea to be honest but, you bought a little minter there I think :) Well done.....Just beware, KZread don't seem to have an Thumbs Up icon on your video, just a Thumbs Down, so not pressing that one. lol know that I love your videos, always watch them all and enjoy them.

A good few years ago a friend of mine had a Transit Petrol Box Van ex BT for a Landscaping business . Now he was never really much for servicing and Business was slow one winter , so he put Lawnmower Engine oil in the Transit Engine and ...............it seized up , and he was surprised ? 🤭
its mostly about maintenance Lee, yes some cars have inherent issues, but its actually a good motor by the sounds of it. Its when quality cars fail and cost brewsters to fix that cars you wonder where the right balance is, but of course, we are car snobs in the uk.Hope it goes well for you…
Sounds very cheap to buy, for you. I doubt many car sellers would bother with a clutch but they would blag their way out of any responsibility should a buyer have clutch troubles as that item is the one even car warranties shy away from due to bad driving. Very honest guy and hope you make a profit on it.
Nice cheap car Lee should fly off the forecourt.
Who would even consider buying a car without a sausage roll holder 😂😂

Hired a 500L in Italy...cracking car, very economical, so roomy and easy to drive. Felt very solid. Managed to get it wedged in a narrow 'old town' side street, my fault, not the car's......🙈!!
A bargain looks nice vehicle should sell easy getting a lot of car for money 👍
Nice car had a test drive in one but couldn't get the deal from dealer I wanted so walked away
Had one on hire ( 14 plate ) when it was only a few months old. TBF it was all that was left when my beemer gave up the ghost and I needed a car at short notice. Think the shape is awful but it did surprise me, very economical, comfortable and quiet for a diesel . The hire company did say that it was always the last choice though.
Had a few Fiats from new and can't fault any of them. Maybe i was lucky? i don't know....in fact i remember buying a new Fiat Bravo in 2009 and after a year it got a service. It was Arnold Clark, i mentioned i heard a squeak on hard lock turning, they told me there was a ball joint failure on the car, replaced it , apologised and washed it. I had 2 fiats before that car and 2 fiats after it and i never had an issue with quality with any of them. No doubt someone will have had a nightmare but no more different from someone who bought a Ford or a Peugeot....etc etc. Having said that, i really wouldn't buy a Ford with a 1.0 litre ecoboost engine no matter how good the deal was. Any other engine fine but they put it in a lot of their range and maybe its me but these are the ones you see a lot of for sale
1.6jtd ...great engine , 500l sell very well for us . 😀 worst issues are the radio and the areal base .
Hi lee I am not a fiat enthusiast but I have always heard that fiat engines were tough and reliable
Fiat's are decent motors mate of mine has a Fiat van and had it years and barely had much go wrong apart from usual wear and tear items
if a model doesn't suffer with major issues and they sell well then there's not much to worry about. even 'Fix It Again Tony' needs something relaible as his daily driver.
Nothing wrong with a fiat wife had one from new 90k when we sold it no major work needed not even a new clutch 😮
At 16 and a half, you have a good buy. 😂
These were sold in the United States for a few years and they were very poor sellers. Fiat vehicles here have a very poor reputation and depreciate like crazy. I bought a top-spec Lounge with less than 12,000 miles for 65% off MSRP when it was a year old. I bought it as a "DOG TAXI" and extra vehicle to save the good cars from the daily grind of commuting in and around Chicago. Despite a complete dealer service history, it was worn out by the time it reached 125,000 miles. It never failed to start or leave anyone stranded but it didn't inspire much confidence that it would last much longer without significant problems.
Looks a good buy. You have experience of Fiat so what the problem? This is a bigger version and will sell quickly.
Was a passenger in one of these sunroof, heated seats, cruise control was lovely Ithought. Very spacious family car
Bought an old seicento for £250 .spent around £100 sorting it new radiator ,brakes etc...been using it daily 7 years £70 one year for mot .never let me down ...fiats ok for me!

I suppose it's the market that says its mileage-y at 108k. Reality is thats not that high as a percentage of its working life especially nowadays with modern oils and better manufacture.
Lee. Keep seeing these 'L' 500s in the 50-70k nice miieage terratory with shocking descriptions on trade auction sites. Dual mass vibrations. Shaking. Eml. Performance impared warnings..... That and the looks of them. Ill stick with the fire 1.2 500 pops and Lounges. Refuse every every .0.9 twinair. Usually I like to have had one of everything. Renegades similar . With that wanky 1.4t petrol. God FCA and GM make some weak products.
i've driven loads of these, theyre really uncomfortable after a while, but as a seller that really isnt your issue. they attract the ladies and 'normally' theyre driven ok for the warranty because of this.
I bought the mrs the 1.6 diesel 500l with 135000 on the clock, it’s a great motor I’m going to drive it when I buy her a new 2008
Yup commonrail. Multijet. And all that. Fiat pioneered if right. Hence why the larger CC alfa fiat diesels under 80k maintained should be ok. That 1.3 terrible if strangled. Coked up lack servicing. The L just reminds me of Motorbility and Peter Kay.
My employer hired a brand new 500L for me to drive from Winsford to Edinburough to do some work at anothe branch. It was a really nice drive, loads of room as you say. Don't like the look of them so wouldn't buy one.
I do not do many miles, nearly all little local runs. Time to replace my car which will not make economic sense to get it through its next MOT. When the retail price is the same (around £5K) should I choose a high mileage newer car/model or a low mileage older/model car with both having full service histories? Should I choose the 18 plate with 130K on ( belt done) or the 5 year older one with 60K on, same price.
