The changes needed to be made back in 2021 after the crushing series loss to the Habs. Toronto needed to swallow their pride at that moment and admit their team was simply not built for the playoffs.

With a soft core four completely dominating the payroll, it’s almost impossible to assemble a well balanced championship lineup. ✔️

Shows like yours put enormous pressure on the core 4 + they don't like pain and the playoffs require a lot of pain.

They split two games in Boston and that was good but they lost both games in Toronto and that is bad.

damn... Marner being the sacrificial punching bag isn't gonna resolve anything at this point. Team work, makes the dream work, might sound corny af but it's a team sport, not best in individual stat's. I don't even like u guys but holy crap the way everybody's blowin' on Marner is painful.

Firstly, the entire team is to blame including the coaching staff and management. But Marner is taking the brunt for a few reasons. Partly it's because of the difficulty Marner presented when he was initially signed. Holding out, demanding to be pretty much the highest paid winger in the league when he had yet to really earn it, and fans don't forget. Also partly because he never accepts responsibility or blame for anything. And then the rest is his play. Yes, he's an amazing talent, but the tenacity, the consistency, the willingness to lay it all out with max effort needed at this time of year is never there. All of that together is why Marner is public enemy #1 to many. Is it unfair? Maybe, but it comes with the territory. I'd gladly get raked over the coals for his pay rate, but that itself may be part of the problem. He cares more about himself and the money than he does about the team and winning.

I used to love seeing the Leafs eat it every year but now it's just getting sad.

The common denominator of these Leaf Playoff disappointments is the Core 4. The Leafs GM really screwed up big time by not upgrading the Leafs Core 4. Why not follow Vegas and put - 1) JT, 2) Marner and 3) Nylander all under - the Leaf Long term up injury list & restructure the Leaf Core for the long term until next year’s playoffs? 😀

Rielly is the only Leafs D man that would make the Bruins lineup, and even then he would play behind Lindholm and Mcavoy. While Frederick and Coyle are impacting the game in ways you could only dream about from Tavares, Kampf, and Holmberg. To say nothing of the fact that the Bruins are masters at funnelling you into tough positions and waiting for you to force something that leads you kind of beating yourself. It’s the perfect identity to deploy against a Leafs team that too often sinks into kind of floating around and hoping for some perfect passing plays and skill plays to develop.

Hard work beats talent, when talent doesnt work hard. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting a different result.

very evident last year against Florida in the playoffs . Same issues again against Boston this year. When up against a physical team who plays good defense, forechecks well and battles along the boards for the puck. The leafs fluff four can't compete. Until the leafs build a team to compete against Florida or Boston, which should be their primary objective. They better move out of the Atlantic division, otherwise expect the same results next year

Getting the puck behind the Bruins and getting after it is the correct adjustment but it’s not the way the Leafs play and they’re not built for that kind of hockey. Bottom line, the Bruins are dictating the pace and style of game, to their advantage and Toronto just has no answer.

There’s lots of reasons the leafs are sooo bad but the main reason is the culture of Toronto: complacent, over taxed, Soviet, monopolies abound (MSLE, LCBO) and there’s no competition anywhere in any sector. An NHL team in Hamilton would see the leafs win the cup in two years.

The core is making to much coin....trade winds will blow this summer!!!!

Woll has to steal a game. The other top guys like Tavares, Willy,Mich have to step up and get double shifted, it looks like if Matthews plays it will be limited and on the PP. The excuses are over.

I thought this point of the new GM was to get tougher for the playoffs. It’s called Sedin Syndrome. Amazing in the regular season but no balls to make it through a playoff series.

Their small game details are atrocious. It's either stubborn players (then the coach needs to send a message) or it's the team's system, which is ALL on the coaching. Either way, whenever this season ends, changes HAVE to be made. They're not a well-built team, from the net out.

Where I'm from, Leafs blow all year long...

The Bruins playing awesome in their own end is the reason the Leafs are frustrated

This is the same old story for the last 7 years they have a great regular season, playoffs they have no idea what they’re doing move on to next season hopefully there will be major changes

Core needs to change. Force a Marner trade this summer and who cares about equal value. Start plugging some holes and rebuild the farm. Of course, best if Shanahan on down to Keefe and even assistants are fired.

If the coaches cannot figure out what went wrong then they need to be replaced.

Too many Todd Bertuzzi and Alexei Yashin on the team.

Talking how bad the leafs played, it's Boston's smothering team D, their not giving the leafs any time or room to make plays, it's the opposite of wide-open hockey. Great job Boston.

If you trade Marner, you need to resign Domi and Bertuzzi as they played ok with Matthews.

Listen, Nylander, Marner and Matthews are all sick/injured right now. Give them a break. Do not care about past years. THIS year they are injured. The OIlers are playing the weak LA Kings whereas the Leafs and jets are playing 2 great teams in Col & Bos. IF the Oilers played the Bruins or Aves would they be as good? Boston finished with 109 pts. Even a fully healthy team will have trouble beating this team. I am a Leafs fan til the end and will stick by the team I love when many are not.

The oilers scored like 4 a game against Colorado in their series two years ago and Draisaitl had a high ankle sprain that he could barely move on. The Oilers would be doing better than the leafs

The symptom of a toxic fanbase

This isn't rocket science. The entire league figured it out over 25 years ago after the evolution of goaltending and defensive systems. To win the Cup you need a top tier goalie and a Norris-level D-man leading a six-deep group of D-men. It's actually impossible to win the Cup without those items. Every Cup winner over the past 25 years has had them. But it's a salary cap league and those players are expensive. You can't be a top-heavy team of forwards and be playoff competitive.

Boston should have had 2 penalties in a 1 minute span, blatant holding on mathews behind the net, then less than a minut later Marchand trips up Bertuzzi the puck is 2 lines away from them ... yeah .. blatant interference. Then Boston scores shortly after, and the refs/league does nothing?? Talk about blind as a bat, or its fixed. Vancouver is up 2-0 and the refs were obviously rigging the game in Bostons favor, its obvious right from the start of game 3. They let Boston punch Vancouver players in the face less than 3 feet from the ref with the ref looking right at them .. nothing was called. I was cheering for Boston ... as everyone I knew hated Vancouver and the Sedins ... but to see the refs decide games like that ... its a disgrace.
