There is a fundamental difference between how the West describes China's progress and how China describes themselves. The West tends to use the words ' Rise of China ' but China tends to use the words ' Revivial of China '. The former sounds threatening to some extent while the latter states that China is merely assuming its original pre-1820 position which is a major power long before any Western countries became a major power.

America need to review world history and see China becoming the leading nation in its place. Chinese leaders have to have passed rigorous decades of superior achievements in politics and governance, and by the way many were trained as engineers, not lawyers.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the west seeing Freedom as the no.1 value. If you study Maslow hierarchy of needs, you will realize that Freedom in western sense i.e democracy and freedom of speech falls under the need of esteem and esteem is less important than the basic physiological and safety needs. Its ludicrous for people to think that forcing democracy on a country where people are poor, uneducated and suffering to suddenly come together voting for a common cause, much less a progressive and prosperous future. More often than not, the freedom given without responsibility would be abused for personal gains. If you study history, you will realize that there has never been a single country that was democratic before it complete industrialization or became fully developed, not even the west. Its only when people have their physiological and safety needs secured, would they stop their barbaric ways, start to communicate, trade and foster relationships. As Lee Kuan Yew once said, democracy is the result of prosperity, not the cause of it. The Chinese will undoubtedly gain more freedom as they progress and grow more prosperous. Unfortunately, third world countries that adopted democracy continually bath themselves in chaos, where corrupted politicians manipulate the system to settle an annuity for themselves, causing the people and the country inability to progress.

It is not the military matters but the standard of livings for China has improved from 'a country mouse to a city mouse'. This standard can only be achieved by 'the overseas Chinese' remitting money back by working in a richer and more resourceful foreign country. After the two world wars, China is dirt poor 'as poor as a church mouse'. Now, you are better off forgetting your humble past of your miseries and starvations. Remember.. 'pride comes before a fall'. Are you going to make the same mistake with your upbringing hatreds?

The truth always hurt like it or not. Game over for the Mao regime victory over the Capitalist West resulting in 'xenophobic' against foreigners as evil.

China is rising because they are adopting many ways of the West, not all but ways that are tried and true. Some degree of free enterprise, some degree of property ownership, some degree of freedom that contribute to their economic well being. Does it really matter whether a nation is number one, two or three? What is an ideal nation anyway?

Lawyers are usually not practical and engineers are definitely more practical, so may more engineers arise to join politic.

Kishore’s explanation very clearly acknowledges the momentum of Asia (especially China). Many other Asian countries may side with the western world because they earn USD in the form of salaries working in those countries. Not Singapore, it will be Shanghai.

Singapore is not a good example to compare. First of all its a Financial and administrative hub unlike like other countries, do not have to spend their budget in Military. Also had a consistent political track record, unlike some calls it a dictatorship, never the less it brought a stability to Singapore for foreign capital to be invested.

And in the view of history, no communist/socialist country has survived long. Most has already been overthrown.

China will become no doubt more developed and more enhanced in their capabilities , It could even surpass in USA in GDP. He had shrewdly used the term "Number One" . The Question in what will china achieve Number One Status? 1)In GDP (Quite Possibly) 2) In The Rate of Developing it's Infrastructure (Quite Possibly) 3)Militarily (It's technology would no doubt become more enhanced , but it's not going to surpass USA in terms of budget , technology (Us Military Aircraft are 3 times of china's air force , China's flag-ship Fighter jet J-20 has similar design structure of USA's F-22 possibly due to reverse engineered .Many of their top Technology's are simply outcome of reverse engineering of Russian and USA technology . USA have 20 Air-craft carriers , while China only have 2 Air-craft carriers (Both of them are Bought from Russia and they might even be buying more.) USA has built more than 70,000 Nuclear warheads , which is more than all the countries combined . They have conducted 1054 Nuclear tests since 1945 , China's nuclear technology derive from Russia , it has only conducted 45 tests. China's Top Anti-Missile System is still Russia's S-400 Surface Most importantly experience in fighting wars which USA has lots of it.

+cad80 24 It's not easy to match the US 's military because the Americans is focused on policing the whole world, therefore they will keep on increasing their military budget,whereas China now is only trying to have a broader vision of creating a military presence worldwide, mainly to protect its own interest.US 's policy is directly interfering in the affairs of others ,therefore in the foreseeable future, US 's military presence will still be strong but as u said if they don't solve their huge debt and let the future generation take the burden, US military budget will affected .

What you say implies that countries which are not smart partnering with China will not have peace, prosperity, successor their people etc. That is as. It might mean that China will make trouble in such countries which I'd very bad.
