The first red flag is renaming a nine year old child. A name is part of a person’s identity, you don’t just throw it away at that age. The adoptive parents seemed to have an idea of what they wanted their child to be like, and when she didn’t exactly live up to it, they threw her away.

Bingo. They wanted an image in their heads, but a real child. And when you adopt internationally, especially an older child, you can't erase their culture, name, language, etc. They didn't respect this child.

As an adopted child myself, i have a question. If she was their biological child what would they have done with her? Put her to the orphanage? There s no such thing as a perfect child. You don't adopt a child to get over your insecurities. They were horrible to her. I thought something creepy going on. Everything was wrong with that woman and her husband. They adopted for all the wrong reasons. Shame on them. Horrible and sick ppl. You adopt to give to a child love what they need. Sabrina looks happy. I am glad she's doing well. I never thought she could harm anyone. That sick big headed couple they might have secretly payed that stupid psychiatrist to come out with this inaccurate " diagnosis. I think he was lying. I agree. They couple handled Sabrina as if she was an inanimate object. They wanted a perfect daughter and a perfect little son. While kids above the age of 6-7 have a partially developed personality. This personality isn't changed just because they were placed into another home. It takes effort to change something for the better. Many kids from orphanages in Russia and China hold attachment disorders due to the lack of a deep personal relationship with their carers, the lack of physical touch and the lack of emotional needs being met in other area's. Just because Sabrina was placed in a psychiatric unit/hospital doesn't mean she actually was a danger to the world around her. Like she said as an adult she was suicidal and longed for a way out of the misery she was in. If a child can't escape the real world, they either try to tell people about their misery, lie to get things done to end the situation or dissociate heavily to overcome the intense discomfort. To me, it screams parents that weren't able to cope with any child that showed ANY problems regarding their adoption. This means that all the medication, all the therapy and all the preventive measures they took weren't enough to have a feeling of them being safe around a child that didn't behave like they expected; the perfect little daughter they could raise to be their pride and joy. Sabrina had a past, and they wanted to have the past erased in order to get the perfect girl they foresaw in their ideal dreams. Regarding the psychiatrist, I have to say 2 things; 1st. it was about a girl that came from a different country and culture with parents that were from the US culture. 2nd. In the US kids are heavily diagnosed and medicated if there is anything wrong with them. For instance an 8 y.o. with tantrums due to the lack of parenting skills and boundaries, that throws fits, gets violent with siblings and talks about "the mean side inside of him" as a way to tell about how he feels he behaves gets a diagnosis of ADHD, bipolar, oppositional deviant disorder or conduct disorder and schizophrenia just because it doesn't fit into the box of 1 psychiatric disorder. In the meantime all the kid needed was guidance due to setting ground rules, giving his parents parenting classed/education and showing what normal behaviour is like and what to do while feeling upset or angry. 95% of these kids don't even have a mental disorder, but are guided by the way parents and teachers talk about the kid. At 30:45 Sabrina says "I have parents. They're the parents that took the time to learn who I am". Thís quote sums up 99.99999% of all of this story. It wasn't about the parents wanting a perfect child. It was about a child needing the stability in a forever home!

No mention of therapy anywhere. Only one dr saw through the nonsense out of many. It's very unfortunate that this is very common among kids in the foster care system. They are at much higher risk of being polydrugged by psychiatrists because trauma causes behavioral issues, and no one wants to invest in therapy, patience and love to help them heal.

For starters, kids are hard to raise whether they're your own or not, adopted kids will have issues around identity and also I would assume that a lot of children who are adopted out could have early trauma that would affect early brain development and behaviour. To just take her back and abandon her is just unforgivable, in my opinion.

Gotta wonder why that is- was the step father mean to him? were you siding with the step father over him? are you like Sabrina's first adoptive parents cold, uncaring, and only seeing kids at face value (they're acting out so they must just be evil not troubled kids who need help)? was/is he close with his biological father and thinks his step father is trying to replace him? do you not understand that people aren't black and white that we can not like certain people but like other people and show different sides of ourselves to each of them based on how we feel about them? Children not liking their step parent is so common it's a cliche at this point because of what I listed above and then some. Also you don't have to live with someone to be able to show them empathy. Frankly going by your comment you sound just as toxic as Sabrina's first adoptive parents 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think that last minute decision of theirs played a role in her deminure. She knew they were there to take her. Then they decided to take also another boy. Isn't she good enough? - the child may think. Is anything wrong with me? Then she goes home and feels they are all melting for the boy and doesn't realize they melt for her too - but in a different way, since she was older. The experiences are different, the emotions are different. You are right. She was jeaulous of the boy and redrawn to her psychic even more. I also don't know if I believe her when she says she was just trying to pick him up. Even if she was - I can understand the confusion. The mother standing on the floor looking up to see a little boy almost fall off that high.... to his death. It's very scary. Probably all just a miss understood. None of them were ready for that at that time. But sure they all lurned a lot from it and thankfully end up living better lives after that harsh decision of returning the child. Huch! Very hard decision.

We must remember there’s no perfect child out there from the beginning, but there can be the perfect parents somewhere out there. Kids don’t grow up to be perfect on their own. It’s their parents who help their kids grow up to become a decent human being. I’m so glad that her life has turned out so well, living such a wonderful life full of joy and happiness. I can see and tell that by just looking at her face, relaxed and smiling all the time. Her new parents are truly admirable, and I also thank the agency lady for not just neglecting her, bringing her back to the US, and eventually finding the perfect parents for her. And I’m pretty sure that her former adoptive parents somehow framed her without their knowing it. They just favored the son over her.

It's funny how she's is exactly what the adoption agents wrote fun, friendly caring obedient. You can see it in the videos of them when they first saw her in Russia how she's playing with her friends how caring she is to her brother.

The woman says: “when I dreamed of adopting a little girl, this was not my dream.” This is baffling to me. No child is born to feed a parent’s dream, they are their own person, not the means to your fantasy! This couple was never ready for children, they did not want children, they wanted the means to feed their desire and NOT love a person unconditionally, which is what a parent is supposed to do. I am so sorry for what they put her through. No child deserves to feel unwanted or discardable.

I’m only halfway through, but I’m absolutely shocked by this story! My husband and I adopted two older children at the same time, much like this couple. They were 8 & 9. We were also lied to by the orphanage about their history, health, and special needs. We were told they were healthy, well-adjusted siblings, but later found out not related at all. One of our children turned out to have a significant intellectual disability and my other child had deep trauma that caused behavioral struggles through the years. Even with all of that, we NEVER regretted our decision! Our adoption didn’t go the way we had pictured in our minds, but nothing in life is guaranteed. You could give birth to your child and still have problems you didn’t foresee. It was a challenging time, but more than ten years later, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. That’s what you sign on for with international, older child adoption. Our children are grown now and are the light of our lives. They’re our only kids and all we ever wanted. They have their struggles, but don’t we all? This young girl didn’t deserve that. She reminds me of my youngest. Even at the worst of times, I couldn’t imagine abandoning my child that way.

After watching this twice, I even thought more about her having anxiety. A child with anxiety being told they'd hurt someone would probably ruminate and want to stay away for fear of something bad happening. That makes her childhood all the more heartbreaking. She was terrified. The adoptive "parents" had no business with any children, as harsh as that sounds.

As a mom of a child who is special needs, I am dumbfounded and shocked at these “parents”. You know, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I was having a personal pity party “Why ME!?!”, and a lady who was at the hospital asked me if I was okay. I said no and she sat down beside me and let me cry. She didn’t know me. I told her what was going on and she said “Why NOT you?”. It changed my life. I didn’t even know her name. She has always been an angel to me.

It's meaningless to ask "why me," because everybody who doesn't die very young will experience heartbreak many times. I'm an old lady now, and have loved 3 different family dogs into their elderly years, each time reaching the point where we had to arrange for the peaceful end at home in my arms. It kills me each time a memory hits me, but in every case the 13+ years of love more than offsets the agony of the loss.

It’s beautiful to see that she is thriving, has her own family now. This is to parents trying to adopt ( especially those who are adopting older kids, I think you should adopt just one child) that way you give them your undivided love and attention. As an older kid, they already know they were abandoned by their mother or father and feel that too.

The way they pour adoration & love on the male child yet see Carolee as just one problem after another is pretty disgusting, can only imagine how this feels to a child who already has attachment issues.
