#ghosttowns #historicalplaces #heritagewalk #travel #historybuffs
‪@TourismServices01‬
Fryerstown is a town in the Goldfields region of Victoria, Australia. At the 2016 census, Fryerstown and the surrounding area had a population of 228, which peaked at 20,000 during the Victorian gold rush. Peter and Jojo take you on a walk visiting the architecture of the town and finding out what was the demise of this town.
The Post Office opened on 19 April 1854 as Fryer's Creek, was renamed Fryerstown in 1856, and closed in 1975.

Hi Jojo and Peter, thank you for having me. Another Great Content which you have been working on from one town to antoher. Time-consuming research and filming are appreciated. The weather was on your side for sure. Thank you for educating me about the little microphones. Those historical buildings need a little love from the local residence. Otherwise, they just sit and rot... Gold rush may be caused this situation. Now we are facing another issue, after pandemic. I have seen many businesses closing and the old buildings become empty, like this town, Fryerstown. We may be losing valuable property with PPL's memories forever..Then our next generations will never have opportunity to meet the beauty again. Please continue spreading your passion and inspirations. Have a blast day. love love

Hi both and beautiful Ruby. I did love Fryerstown and its interesting history of how it turned from a forest into something and then into a ghosttown. Loved the old buildings as you walked around and that brass band must have been amazing to see :) Shame about the dwindling gold there though. Beautiful Anglican church and courthouse turned private residence, such a lovely area and tour :) ~ Anna ❤👍

You do come up with some interesting intros! Interesting to see the Mechanics Institute. I (Robert) was manager of the Nottingham Mechanics for over 30 years and am still involved now I am retired. It is interesting to see these places and what was left behind after the towns gold rush was over. Once the reason for the towns existence was gone and nothing replaced the mining, then needing work to survive people move on. I am sure there are many places like this. We have visited many "Ghost Towns" in the US where the towns almost completely died when the mines ran out. Fryerstown still does have some pretty interesting buildings that have survived. Great to wander with you again.

Thank you for coming along with us Robert. These days the people who live there commute to Castlemaine or Daylesford for supplies. Most of these places are well maintained and the small community that live there support each other. But we do have many towns that after the Gold Rush have disappeared and all is left is a cairn to remind us of a small town had existed. regards to Ivor, have a great weekend. 🙏🏼👍🏼🤠

The 1869 engine house and chimney stack are definitely a highlight here. It is always interesting to see how a town such as Fryerstown goes from being a busy commercial and residential area to almost being a ghost town. We have visited some towns that declined so much they are not too far away from being considered ghost towns. It is weird to think how the homes and schools and churches and businesses that used to be there were so important to so many townspeople at one point. And no most of the townpeople are gone once business in the area collapsed. Thanks for sharing this fascinating history with us!

Lovely town! Nice that many of the buildings remain and many are in good condition too. Pretty to see all the trees, makes it look like a park. Most of the ghost towns I’ve visited in the US In California were gold rush towns and they declined for the same reason- but the building generally are in worse shape. Great history and tour, thanks guys!! 😄👌👍🌟🌟
