I was thinking about getting my first Autoart for my birthday, never knew they went downhill though.

I never thought I would see the day when Maisto/Burago would surpass Autoart in details like opening doors and hoods. Who would have thought something so important, would become obsolete.

They are NOT going back to diecast. All new models WILL be composite only.

Spot on rob! I was going to purchase the 1:12 pagani but it really annoyed me that only the doors open.

I got a lancia delta in muddy finish recently and I’ve got to say the quality was excellent, doors opened as well as the rear and front. Impeccable detail

Yea, new ones don't even have display boxes but these foamies. I have a standard and the S-Tune from when I had a 1:1 and these were indeed excellent!

I just bought a 1/18 Autoart Dodge viper ACR, its fully functional as pertaining to doors, hood, truck lid and wheels are steerable!! It my first one in 10 yrs tho lmao so maybe they sold AutoArt business it to another factory where employees actually care about the products they make now. Especially since now other brands are putting out top tier diecasts cars it would be ashome to just have AutoArt fall off like that. I cant wait to buy more from AutoArt, IXO, and spark

I was wondering the same thing about Maisto models, of course not the same quality as Autoart. I have a small collection of Maistos from 10 or 15 years ago with way much more detail on the undercarriage than the ones been sold now. At least Maisto is still making them with open hood, doors and trunks.

I guess it’s because the paint after a long time starts to Bubble up so I think that’s why they are going in that direction I have models for them great detailing on them .That will explain the price so I guess they are trying to lower the price so everyone can have that special model they’ve always wanted but couldn’t afford

Hi Rob, glad I found your channel.I am a macro photographer staging car scenes at city overlooks, in snow storms etc. I am ready to move up to 1/18 but need the OLD detail Auto Art used to have. Can you recommend 3 quality brands with great quality , opening doors, trunks, engine detail etc.? Seeking a stable of 3- 6 common urban & sports vehicles like a Ferrari, Lambroghini, Mustang, SUV, Lexus/Mercedes/ tow truck. I know of Amalgam but an M note a pop is a wee bit pricey. You come a cross as a professional who gives professional assessments. Thank you for detailed analysis - you saved me a bad surprise. Canada sends its Commonwealth greetings.

Hi John, it is getting harder in this hobby to get fully opening models with great details. he whole industry is moving towards sealed models. AUTOart is really your best choice for fully opening models, but they don't make Ferrari models. Your best bet for Ferrari models is BBR or MR models. I have plenty of model reviews, check them out and make your pics. Thanks for your support on the channel.

must admit, i now prefer sealed resin, as the opening models of late out there are suffering a tad, drifting towards the Maisto's, Burago's etc.Even the open bonnet detail has dropped..the latest Koenigsegg from AA is not great at all.

Exactly, the AA One:1 is not worth the US$270 asking price in my opinion. I said also that despite all the criticism of sealed resin models, I will still take one over a cheaply made, highly priced opening composite. No one can deny the paint, details and quality of a BBR / MR or Frontiart / Peako model kills a AUTOart model.

Hey Rob, GREAT video! Did you already post this on on DX yet? If not, you should. yeah, basically, the only way to get this level of detail & more these days, you have to buy Chinese Dealer Edition models. It seems like more sports and supercars are being released(besides the standard "Everyday Cars" that you often find me posting on DX. Excellent model, I miss the old AA too. They have really went waaay down hill, but their prices are stupidly overpriced for what we get these days. BIG CHEERS! David ;)

Hi D, no I haven't posted this on DX yet, I have up and down success posting there since the update, that's why I have been a bit quiet. If you saw my review of the AA One:1, you can see all the cost cutting there. I'm probably going to sell that model to be honest. It is nowhere near the quality of the AA Huayra, Zonda R or the older AA Agera. Very disappointing!

That's really sad, that AA is sliding further down. Still shocked at how many people keep buying their stuff.. I cooled of, unless it's a model of something that I can't get anywhere else. BTW, I am sure that you won't have any problems selling it.

A lot of people will always want an opening version of a model, despite the shortfalls. I personally will take a stunning sealed resin over a AA now since they are not that much more. The AA One:1 is US$270 and just not worth it IMO

February 2020. Last generation Dodge Viper ACR. The huge stripes that adorn the body are water slide film decals. A bad sign for AA when it comes to graphics. They switched to film decals from tampo printed graphics.

Last autoart model I bought was the mclaren f1 Stealth edition and the zonda r. Shame about all there new cars. Im thinking of getting the lfa next, I think that was a diecast model.

Hey Rob, what brand would you recommend for someone looking to get into building model cars as a hobby, i live in Sydney and all ive seen are tamiya model kits. Cheers.

Tamiya kits are very good, if you want very large models, 1/8 scale, Pocher are also great. Hobby design make parts for you to modify diecast cars, and there is also Alpha Model, you can check their Facebook page for range, but usually they have no instructions, so you need alot of experience to build them. I would start of with Tamiya to get used of painting and assembling with full instructions. I hope this helps:)

I only buy metal diecast all my plastic models after about 20 years start to have serious condition issues regardless if they are brand new sealed in the box never opened never touched etc etc it does not matter the plastic stuff is junk and a scam its a matter of time before it just cracks and breaks byitself the metal made stuff you can keep for ever and has a much higher chance of being able to be restored to original condition in the future even after 100+ years depending on how much metals are used in the making of the parts and cars themselves when I heard autoart is switching to more plastics and less metals I started investing in real cars instead so I gess one good thing came out of them changing their old ways for me at least.

Do you know where I can buy 350z parts by autoart???

I was looking forward to buying a MC12 for 270$. Shame to know that they went downhill. My recent AutoArt model Was the 12C McLaren, ehh, it's not so bad, but I really hoped for some more detail on the bottom, but it's just a panel, but I really love it

this is the problem i see with modeling modern cars. theres so many plastic coverings on a LOT of sports and super cars that it allows makers like autoart and others to cut corners but still be able to claim "accuracy" to an extent. at least your 12C is made of diecast (right?), i just received my 675lt which is a composite model and its the same deal, i can see where they cut a lot of corners but its hidden just cleverly enough that you wont notice until you start comparing pics of the real life car. I still think it looks great although a little pricey but there's not a lot of other options out there for mclarens that I know of. I honestly wouldnt care that they're made of plastic if they could still pack in the same level of detail as they used to but maybe thats the compromise they have to make.

@@theviper7248 if they're gonna cut corners then they should cut prices. i check ebay a lot for deals but i've been noticing a lot of the newer composites like the lambo's or mclaren's climbing in price. there's still a few cheap models available, some even in diecast, like the aston martin vantage s or the lotus exige s in composite but the sought after diecasts are skyrocketing in value now!

my real life car (well 2 cars) has a VQ35DE, same engine as the 350Z!

It's always been a dream of mine to buy AutoART models. I could never afford one. But thank you for the new information. I think I would rather look at ignition models in resin. What are your thoughts about it? Since I don't have much space on my desk, I collect 1:64 Tarmac Models.

I bought an auto art 1/18 Corvette C7 "lime Rock Park". Great model for around 150.00 Doors open, does roll (which I hate). Would reccemend.

I thought the old ones were composite, and that's why they looked so good. (?) Also, wondered what the he** was going on with AA, as they have dropped MANY of their model line in recent years. They were always TOPS, IMHO, for model car detail and quality, as well as moving parts. Did they get sold, or are up for sale? Does this mean our old AA models (apparently made out of diecast metal) are going to be worth $$ in the future? Many years ago I bought a Alfa Romeo Montreal in red, and now the only one they carry is in sh** brown. Also bought the black Jaguar XJ-S. They don't even carry the XJ-S anymore, and very few other Jags. GRRRR.

Many collectors are not happy with the new composite models (plastic) and from Facebook posts, it sems that the quality of the models HAS significantly dropped. It is true that the prices have gone up for some of the older diecast releases, look at the Pagani Huayra and the Koenigsegg models, prices are north of $600. Also, try to find a Aventador roadster for under $600 they have sky rocketed in price too.

Plastic and cheap and not heavy

Maybe not as many people purchase model cars anymore to begin with. I am willing to bet that not a lot of people are interested in automobiles in real life as they once used to. Look at the kind of cars that manufactures are producing: SUVs. There's a sign right there. If people don't like cars in real life, then where's the business case for model cars? So could it be that AUTOart has to cut corners like to this to stay in business? That's my guess at least. Curious to see what you think.

Some of your points are valid, but I think there will always be customers for supercar models and classic, historic cars as so many fans have an emotional attachment to them. Nearly all models are made in China, and labour costs and manufacturing costs are rising, so those costs have to be added to the costs of models. The hobby IS getting more expensive, no doubt, but there is always new collectors getting involved and some older collectors getting back into it.

Their very detailed, and extremely cheap. They nailed almost every detail on my LA Ferrari for 15$. And for all opening parts. I find mine at Sam's Club and Costco. But their made out of plastic. Probably the frame and some other parts are made out of metal, but that kind of cheap metal if you know what I mean. But If you looking for hand made cheap models. Your looking in the wrong place. I am pretty sure Mastio, diecast aren't hand made. Keep in mind this is my opinion and don't have any problem with other people who disagree. You love what you love. Oh and plus I have all ways loves diecast cars. So I'm starting off small.... I wanted to see experiences and reviews on different brands....

For me the Maisto's are toy like. I was very happy when Hotwheels Elite was making Ferrari's, as you can see from my collection, nearly all of my Ferrari models up to the 458 are Hotwheels Elite. They were a great balance of price and quality / detail.

From what I understand, America's the only place where you can buy Maistos for $15 from Costco, Sam's etc. Pretty much everywhere in the world, they retail for approx $40 a piece. It's actually Bburago that currently has the budget Ferrari license, but they sell them in Maisto boxes since they have the same parent company (May Cheong Group). So if you look at the undercarriage of your Maisto Ferrari, it probably says Bburago.

I think that this thing has also happened with Kyosho. I have an AA 50 Aventador in nero Nemesis, and a Kyosho Z4, and the quality of both is outstanding. Have you thought about buying old produced models Rob?

Yes you are right. Kyosho used to make awesome Ferrari models and others, and now they only make sealed diecast and resin models. What a shame.

I have also started buying some older AUTOart models. If you follow me on Facebook, I post all the models that come in straight away on there, so you will see 6 new models that came in the last week and a half. Reviews will come shortly on those models.

Not just Autoart. Most of the big players have succumbed and are producing inferior toy-like resin models. TSM is one of my big gripes - the detail on some of their old diecast cars was epic.

I am not an Autoart employee or affiliated with Atuoart. Message to Autoart executives: PLEASE figure out a way to replace your current marketing team so folks making the diecast models do not have to skimp on quality to make paychecks for the marketing team.

what do you mean broke? was it supposed to move up and down or were the plastic pieces to fragile? I have a 675lt and that is not good news to my ears lol

The hinges on the hood arent that well made though...

Bladed angel did a video on model cars his AutoArt models looked much better then the maisto cars.

the issue here is mainly value. autoarts have known to be pricier but the quality reflected that by being diecast and full of great details. nowadays, a lot of their cars are made of hard plastic which isnt necessarily a bad thing, its just that they claimed that it would allow them to bring prices down without compromising on quality. collectors have been realizing thats not the case though, and lot of the newer offerings cut a lot of corners with a lot of them being due to the design of a lot of modern cars having plastic panels everywhere to cover up a lot of exposed potential details. not to mention the fact that their new composite models tend to feel more fragile than their diecast counterparts.

Personally I think we should stop giving them our money and put our money into other companies which deserve the money they ask for. Such as Almost Real.

I'm sure that by now, most know that AA models are going down in quality and up in price. And I think that slowly, they will be selling less models. I am waiting for Almost Real to start releasing supercar models, I will support them 100%

AUTOart is now definitely all about profits over quality

Auto art quality has dropped over the yrs. This us why the cheaper companies have caught up and in some cases passed them. Autoart have gotten away from diecast and they do waaaay too much composite now. It's very light and super fragile. That's why I stopped buying them.

Right now, I have maybe 10 Autoart models, and I have never spent more than 100€ on them, except one rare occasion where I spent 179€ but it was G63 6x6. Other Autoart that have is V12 Vantage, Lola Aston Martin DB09/60, Maserati MC12 GT1, Lambo Huracan, Lambo Supertrofeo, Mclaren MP4 12C and 3 newly acquired LMP1 racers - two Nissan GT-R LM Nismo's and TS040. I am a bargain hunter, I rarely paying full price for a model car, and I pretty happy with my Autoart affairs.

I own lots of old Aa models and I buy less and less Aa models to be honest, as I am not impressed by what they offer : less quality for waaaaaay much money. Yes you are guilty of buying resin models but so am I! Let's say you want a modern GTR (NISMO trim), you have to go resin, no choice..! And Aa is guilty of making stupid mistskes on their models and not correcting them : their newest Grand Sport Corvette comes with the clear taillights that they fits on their Z06 Corvette but this is wrong!! A GS Corvette have red taillights! I sent them an email about that month ago, got a reply that "it will be forwarded to the production department" but nothing changed!!! So... stop buying Autoart models, money talk...

80 dollars a good deal ? Are you kidding me ? A new Bburago is almost 80 AUD !!! ........ You mean its a STEAL !!! Its like getting it free almost. I heve the mettalic Yellow version, way more apreciated than that blue one, didnt even know they had them in blue. The grey one is good to. Im still searching the orange/copper one in basic 350z coupé model (I have the grey metallic one, like it more in original orange, best color for this cat for sure, TDU/NFS U2 nostalgie probably) and maybe in Cabrio in same coller I want to have to. PS : But yeah you handle it as a -80 AUD model, thats quiet sad to see from a model fan :( Kind of hate it. respect the model as it is and how much its worth, not how much you payed it in first place and especially the work and detail that it is made of. It feels and look good, so respect is, and im talking about everyone handling models. Cause you brake things and such and then you sell them as new without noticing the models flaws or problems...
