Well I mean, Spike found the Country Side a while before Crane went to the Country Side, maybe he did escape before Crane blew up the entire City? But it seems that obviously, Harran was not nuked.

There’s also a newspaper that explains that 5 years later there’s still thousands trapped in Harran while outbreaks are popping up in various city’s hints why the city in dl2 was walled off leading to its survival of the second wide spreader outbreak

The harran virus is actually a variation of rabies, meaning the zombies arent being taken control of. The original person is still very much the same as the zombie, it's just likely that the zombies are really just Hella paranoid and think the survivors are the actual threat due to the psychosis caused by rabies. It also explains Aiden having conscious thoughts while actively mauling Veronica to death, and crane perceiving jade as a threat, choking her our right before she injects him with antizin because as he was turning, he was actually thinking she was the one turning

Well I didn’t like the slums but Old Town was incredible for parkour, same as Old Villedor (which was awesome to run through), but Central Loop was annoying as hell. Amount of times I fell to my death because of paraglider stamina running out.

@@RaMZes9722 True, you will only start descending to the ground safely (once your stamina has ran out) instead of continuously gliding in the air, I think most people accidentally press the crouch button causing them to drop to thier deaths because this is what happens to me sometimes

One thing I wish they would've included is the sentient volatile aspect with Aiden's occasional turning throughout the game. Imagine being able to risk turning by staying out at night and gaining a boost in strength and speed, but if you let it go for too long you turn and die. Would be a cool gameplay mechanic and call back to the whole following thing.

Imagine if it had something similar to the New Prey game. Where the more and more you got those inhibitors the more you'd turn. Like the neuromods in prey turning you more alien. Where even the turrets recognize you as an alien threat

It's just not implemented in the gameplay, which I would've liked to see as well, I don't know if the effect you mention in Prey has an effect on gameplay since I've not played it. But yeah, in DL2 you have these volatile reactions more frequently the more inhibitors you get, which makes me sad to not see the volatile aspect during gameplay.

Crane already was against the idea of the ministry bombing the city, Why would he change his mind and nuke the city all of a sudden? Well maybe he lost his hope in the cure, but that's just against his personality. Crane is one hell of a stubborn guy

Yeah. Crane was clinging onto false hope for a cure throughout the game even disobeying his GRE order. I highly doubt he would change his mind and Nuke Harran. It is more in line with his personality to mumble about cures while his friends were literally getting slaughtered at the radio. Also pretty poetic that he would be the one to start the second out break.

We need a "Return to Haran" DLC. It wouldn't take too much effort. They already have the map. They just need to do a little bit of visual reworking. That's it. It would be SICK. Imagine if we actually meet Crane, a sentient volatile, and communicate with him. Holy moly.

Funny you mention that. The virus in dying light 1 was of unknown origins. All that is known is that it cropped up during an influx of people from abroad due to what’s essentially the fictional olympics The ground zero was the medieval era section of Harran known as old town. You can see there’s theories about the origins of the outbreak, such as the quest for meteorites by a crazy conspiracy theorist, but in truth, the origin of the Harran virus is largely unknown, despite the potential causes.

There is a storyteller in DL2 that talks about a darkness that came to Villedor. Something worse than the usual undead. A hero rose up, but the people laughed at him when he said he would destroy the darkness. He ended up doing exactly that, but the story never says who the hero was or what exactly the big bad thing was that came to Villedor. I choose to believe it was a sentient Kyle Crane that was looking for the last major population center on earth.

For DL1 to DL2, I didn't read it that way at all. DL2 and the devs leading up to the game stated the virus was suceesfully contained in Harran (due to wall off and coming up with a vaccine for those outside to be further protected). But the GRE obtained the virus and started playing with it (for weapon/research?) and a variant got out which spread so fast they didn't have time to stop it like they did with Harran.

Yeah maybe. I’m not sure why they made it so ambiguous again though. Just tell us haha. They’ve told conflicting stories at points, just to confuse us. FR though, given that the GRE failed in their efforts to get Dr. Zere’s research, they probably thought it was a stroke of luck when Crane turned and infected some people outside the quarantine walls. They produced the vax, and then later they were shut down after the investigation ended into their plans to weaponise the virus back in 2015, but continued in secret and then the world was screwed.

Isn't that what she says in the opening cutscene as well. This is a different (and worse) strain of the harran virus because they played with it and it got out of control. This is why in this game Daylight seems to protect you where as in the first game Kyle is close to turning multiple times in daylight

There’s a Crane easter egg where there’s a wall with a ton of pictures of him. One of the pictures is a zombie variant we have never seen before, that one picture could be his volatile/night hunter form.

This is probably the best and most reliable lore video about DL. 3 things: 1) Harran is not in Turkey, but is instead an independent city state based off of Istanbul. 2) The GRE didn't entirely stop antizin drops, they simply slowed. There's cut dialog in The Following that Lena says this and the proof that Airdrops can still be found while playing The Following. 3) General Pratt is the one who ordered March Massacre while Colonel Chris Williams is known as The Butcher for the Black Monday Bombings and the death of 2 million people. I really do hope you continue DL lore. This was very accurate and appreciated.

The main reason i think crane being a volatile is canon is simply because Spike is still alive. If the nuke went off then he would have died along with everyone else

i'm hoping for a DLC story where Aiden and Lawan make their way to Harran, we can visit the major parts of the city that was walled off but we can also go into the slums and old town and maybe even the country side, maybe a final boss fight with Kyle the Volatile

It would be smart for techland to do so because of how many players enjoyed it and how they teased us with the music and showing the tower in the intro to Dying Light 2. It might have been wiped out but who is to say that there isn't anybody left alive there? Maybe GRE has a base set up there with a cure for the virus itself. It would be a great addition to the new game and give us the option of travelling from Old Villedor to Harran and so on and so forth. We never truly got closure for Crane other than the fact he became a sentient volatile.

@@SpeakNoEvil117 did you guys *see* the intro of dying light 2?? harran was nuked canonically, and even if it weren’t it would make for a boring ass dlc because it’s all the same harran we parkoured through 150000 different times each and why would lawan and aiden go to harran? how do you know it would be lawan and aiden, something that would make more sense is having aiden and hakon be in search of a nearby shore to fulfill hakon’s dreams but even then that’s stretching it because even as a pilgrim aiden has mere weeks, even days to live

Man the dying light lore is so cool mostly because of the idea of a zombie outbreak happening in real life would be horrifying

It’s very realistic that’s why I fuck with the game so hard. I mean a variation of rabies wouldn’t be uncommon in real life. People say the story wasn’t good but honestly it’s setup and lore really immerse me into a real apocalyptic world , kinda like The Last of Us 1. Those two games are probably the best zombie games and most realistic scenarios to occur in real life.

@@andrewaguayo115 Yeah especially since The Last Of Us 1 (2 ruined it) used the Cordyceps, which is known as the Zombie Ant Virus for those who don't know. It's called that because it's a fungi that spreads to the brain and turns the host cannibalistic against its own species. If an ant notices it has been touched by this fungi, it'll literally attempt to kill itself to keep the colony safe. And not only does the Cordyceps function as a zombie virus, it's also being used in human medicinal experiments as a potential treatment for cancer, making the cancer eat itself basically. That means that it's not even a stretch to write that going wrong as we are literally attempting to make it affect humans. The only two truly believable zombie viruses in fiction are 28 Days/Weeks Later, and The Last Of Us 1.

Neve heard the full story before. Thank you very much for this video Gaming Harry. Very interesting and eye opening stuff. Now I understand all kind of elements in the DL + DL2 games better .

In DL2 if you look at the missing posters near Bazaar gate, you will notice photos of Brecken, Lita, Ezgi(from the following), Fatin and tolga...there is also the engineer kurt who was in both games and of course spike. This means they all found a way to escape Harran and come to Old villedor suggesting that Crane didn't blew up Harran. We still don't know what happened to Harran afterwards tho. Also, we have only seen Night hunters in multiplayer mode of DL1 and not in campaign, which suggests they are not common and Crane might be the only one since he could hear the Mother and see symbols after killing her. So there is still a small chance we will see Crane in DL3 if it ever comes out.

Dying Light would be a TV series I would love to binge watch

Yeah and as many people that actually do parkour they wouldn't have any problems finding a Crane stunt double and vitals chasing on rooftops. They actually have a zombie parkour chase video on KZread that is filmed on a go pro. Its pretty awesome how they made that. That would be a good example of what they could incorporate into a Dying Light movie or TV series.

Thank you! I assume you’re talking about the supposed ‘third’ ending in DL1 that people keep mentioning. It’s not an ending. It’s exactly what you said, an Easter egg. There are two canon endings and one Easter Egg. The equivalent of a horror game that lets you walk out of the front door and finish the game early

@@GamingHarryYT more proof that the nuke ending is NOT cannon is that, in dying light 2, at the bazaar if you look at the missing peoples posters, you can actually see brecken, lena, tolga, fatin, ezgi, Alfie and probably some others, most of which were in the countryside where the nuke went off or in harran, meaning they didn't leave with spike but managed to get to villedor years before aiden arrived, and ended up getting placed on a missing person poster, so the nuke ending simply isn't possible if the people of villedor knew survivors of harran, they probably left with spike somewhere without saying anything and got put up on posters. Also the fact that there is a shrine found in dying light 2 dedicated to kyle crane, pictures of him, his voice recordings, meaning a survivor who knew him survived harran, I doubt it would be spike since I don't think he has been to villedor. In my opinion and with all the evidence showing it, Kyle crane became a sentient volatile, just like you said, he wouldn't blow up harran and kill off his chances of finding a cure especially when he was so close to getting it.

@@GamingHarryYT yes but most of all, what people forget is, the night hunter is solely for pvp purposes, none of it is cannon, crane turned into a volatile and if people wanna call him the night hunter, well yeah its just another version of volatile, its like the mother of volatiles as its keeping its volatile egg things safe from humans. And it couldn't make sense even if crane was the night hunter, because crane made it outside of harran where the virus was not there, the night hunter is in old town and slums, not outside, and furthering that, how would human crane and volatile crane exist at the same time to fight eachother? It isn't cannon, crane became a sentient volatile like the mother, but not a night hunter. Also this is the first video of yours I have seen and so far its pretty good 😁👍 You got my sub

Yeah I don't know why people thought that him turning wasn't canon it makes no sense why would they put that in then like obviously there’s a reason for that ending. And the scream he made was the same as the night hunter scream so I am sure he’s the night hunter

Tolga and Fatin are confirmed alive during the events of dying light 2 and even make an easter egg appearance at the top of the church of saint thomas the apostle where the can be hear on the radio trying to contact the liquidator.

I slept on that Nightmare Row book for years playing the game. Got it a couple months ago to read with my son and it is quite good. Not everything matches up with the game but close enough. I wish the second game had more weight to the story than what it did. The sister seems like a Macguffin that really is there to move the plot along for other stuff that feels tacked on. Say what you will about the original being cliché, it was still a properly constructed story. The only weaknesses IMO were the important side characters only showing up in cutscenes.

My queation right now is: Was UV light always a suprressant? I mean, in DL1 too? Because based on what I knew, antizin was the only suppressant against the virus. It that's the case, why is UV light so effective right now? Could it be because of the new version of the virus?

The strain that is currently in the game is a mutated/man-made strain which happens to react to UV light the same way as Antizen

Yes, in the first game UV light slowed down the infection, but not to the degree in DL2. This is probably due to the new variation of the virus. Antizin was the main suppressant that helped slow down/halt the infection temporarily. Similarly this version of the virus is more sensitive to UV light, which is why only few zombies go outside during the day (because the sun gives off UV rays in the EM spectrum), and why all zombies can die easily to a UV flashlight (probably for a gameplay reason aswell)

Honestly it doesn't really make sense how the new variant spread so fast. The symptoms of the new variant can be suppressed simply by having access to UV light, which would drastically slow the spread of the disease. That's not even considering the fact that many first world countries would have plenty of access to UV lamps and could easily surround military bases meaning nothing short of a demolisher could break through (even then high caliber weapons would make short work of them). The fall of Harran made a lot more sense considering the fact that it was densely populated with lots of tourists, no one knew how the virus worked, and antazin was the only treatment which was developed after the city had already fallen.

It ultimately boiled down to poor choices by government and the GRE, as they kept experimenting with the virus and chemicals that literally, cause it to spread faster instead of killing it completely, with riots happening and the first few infected in hiding from the sunlight, the first night of it would have had catastrophic consequences and might have taken everyone by surprise, leaving everyone with little time to act as a mass panic happened

I felt like the slums in dying light one was the real parkour feel of dying light. It was just so satisfying and smooth the way the map played out… then u explore central loop and ur constantly using a paraglide to get to buildings

Honestly, that was amazing! Such a great description of the DL world and how things unfolded. As a DL diehard, I love hearing about any kind of backstory, lore, etc. Thanks man

everytime you start up Dying Light 2, Lawan gaves a monologue explaining THV in Dying Light 2 is a different variation from the Dying Light 1 Harran Virus. They contained Harran City, but acquired and modified the Harran Virus into the THV variant, and THAT THV escaped the lab that manufactered it. That explains why no one in Dying Light 2 mentions Antizins instead relying on the Sun and UV lights to repress the THV, which didnt need the Antizin (likely as a built in measure made by the scientist that made the THV variant intending to use it as a controlled weapon for profit) using the led bangles to monitor the infection strength edited the GRE also were most likely fascinated by the enhanced strength and body modification shown by the multiple type of infected in Harran City, and sought to remade those strength and abilities into supersoldiers, hence the experiment on Aidan on those others kids. So there were atleast 2 individual branch of GRE that went into researching different aspect of the virus. 1 branch sought the modified virus itself as controlled biological weapons,( modifying Harran Virus into its THV variants, and another branch trying to splice the genetics of the virus into human dna to make superhumans/ supersoldiers (Aidan/ that last boss dude)

So this may be a reach but its just a little detail I noticed. If you compare Dr. Katsumis voice to the GRE radio woman from DL1 they sound almost identical. Could Dr. Katsumi be the GRE radio woman talking to crane in the first game?

Well thats like comparing Kyle Cranes voice and Aidens voice and assuming its Kyle Crane bc they sound similar. Plus its possible to have the same voice actors in sequels playing as different actors.

They see that you are frightened and you notice them look down at themselves, perhaps frightened at something, inspecting their hands. Something i want to add aswell you could possibly fit the events of bad blood in aswell seeing as the game has you collecting samples of the harran virus and extracting on a gre chopper at the end which could explain how the gre where able to get samples to fuck with and make the new strain

I think the nuclear ending has the possibility to be cannon. I think the virus escaped Harran via the package sent by that doctor from nightmare row. He didn’t get to send the letter explaining the package with it and I always thought that was a weirdly specific detail.

@@geoffwatkinson3612 The no sound in story missions is one i get too often. So annoying… and sometimes Story bosses just clip through the ground, or doors that i should open to continue story is glitches and i have to kill myself to refresh and try again.

Awesome video but you forgot Bad Blood. It takes place long after the main story as vegetation has started taking over the city. The towers are still there, Brecken is missing, Kyle is missing, someone started uniting both towers, but things are HORRIBLE for the survivors. There's no more Antizin so anyone who depended on it has long been gone already leaving ONLY the non infected survivors. Weird new fleshy growths, similar to mini nests seem to have popped up and the GRE asks for anyone alive to collect samples in return for an evac. The remaining survivors are literally killing each other for the opportunity to escape. Its worth noting that in a secret ending at night the city is completely dark. There's no lights in any of the buildings but the tower. This might be due to a failing power grid leaving people dependent on fuel. There doesn't seem to be anyone alive outside the tower anymore. I would want to know how Harran is by the time Dying Light 2 takes place. I can imagine there's maybe a dozen people left farming food, collecting rainwater, etc but without power or fuel left they must have no option but to lock themselves inside somewhere, keep quiet and hide while the infected roam at night looking for them.

True if also like to think that after a while people ran out of water and died from Dehydration and those who were left alive either had to escape and walk for miles to the nearest city. At this point Spike already left and Crane has probably already turned. And for Rais Thugs they either died from Infected, turned, or died due to a lack of food and drinking water, some of them may have had guns but eventually ran out of ammo and couldn’t defend themselves against infected. I’d also like to think in the dying light Universe we had KZread so people would try and break into Harran for some stupid challenge were only 1% would make it out unscathed while the rest were eaten by volatiles, turned, or died of natural causes

I made the same mistake in a discussion with someone that the Nuclear option was most likely canon literally due to that one misunderstanding. I must say what you said made a ton more sense. This also has me thinking a lot about the timeline and lore too.

crane becomes the Night Hunter from the Be the Zombie mode. he makes the same screech noise as the night hunter which is different from a volatile

before i go past 23 seconds i’m gonna say this. The reason the following is canon to the DL2 overall story and events that occurred in that 15 year timeline between DL1 and DL2. That reason is “choices” from the main campaign of DL1 choice was not apart of the main story at least not until the following, specifically the two choice endings. The choice to turn harran into Hiroshima essentially wiping out the virus, or to take these 3 vials containing a potential cure for the virus all the way back to harran. Now this is important because it’s the first time ever during the game where we actually got a choice given to us via a sentient volatile who drank said liquid im from the vials. It’s this moment where we choose the fait of the world. For the story to continue you must choose to take the vials. You take them and you run. find a way out and whilst your running you constantly fade in and out as you rapidly turn into a volatile. You finally reach the outside world beyond the walls, where you see a nice little family sitting at a small park two kids playing ball and a mother reading a book probably the hunger games. All of a sudden the kids scream in terror staring at you and you try to calm them down and you reach out and see your arm and you realize you have already turned. Quickly things happen crane goes berserk and eventually the GRE capture him and crane being sentient is able to communicate with the scientists and gives them the vials. But what crane didn’t realize is that woman from the GRE you know who i’m talking about is head scientist of this research lab facility. She recognizes immediately by voice that it’s crane and confronts him taunting him and telling they will experiment on him and the tissue samples from your cells will be mixed with the vials to create a vaccine. But something always goes wrong. i’ll leave it to Lawan to finish the rest

Man Crane's story is actually soo sad all he wanted was to save the people of Harran and give them hope but in the end he did the exact opposite and caused the virus to spread all over the world

I dont know why people keep thinking Crane spread the virus to the world. It did infect outside but GRE was able to stop the virus and the world was able to move on. Remember that it is 15 years between DL1 and DL2. The world was good for a while after DL1 events until GRE fucked up and had made a modified virus strain of THV to spread outside the labs and thats what made the world fucked again.

That was awesome!-thank for insight on The Haran virus leading to the following and then on Dying light 2 in viIledore, I was wondering why & how that yellow stuff is covering around the whole city? ,i read a little bit on it ,but not how it ties it together It really puts everything in perspective and all the insides and outs of the whole series, in which technically I’m at the following In the series but I couldn’t help but to have been playing a quarter through part 2 taken place in villedore. This helps me connect the dots! & spoiler or not from the fellowing It really ties it all together on the backstory,in great detail! really awesomely good contact -kudos to you sir!

The story of dying light 1 and 2 could be good movie

My only problem with dying light's story or any zombie story for that matter is that the zombies would still need to eat to survive. They are still complex organisms that consume a lot of energy just by existing. Clearly they don't have high levels of cognitive function, so team based hunting is out of the question. Therefore the only source of food for these zombies would be weak humans and fallen zombies. Even in the most optimistic scenario this zombie infection could only survive a couple months, not years. And that isn't even mentioning their decay. The zombies bodies are clearly decaying and they shouldn't be more than bones and dust after a couple months.

Yeah that's why I hate seeing media where zombies just exist infinitely. At least in The Walking Dead they get to a point where they rot to the point of immobility and then die.

Well in dl2 98 percent of the population got fucked so I assume they’ve been feeding until then. Maybe they’re just now running low on food. Also it’s confirmed that decay is only a thing when they’re exposed to sunlight for too long. When a viral is out in the sun for to long they become a biter (slow moving type) and then they decay.

Yeah definitely, but I reckon he was the catalyst for how the infection spread out from the Harran quarantine zone. I just wish they’d have been more clear on how everything happened. From the docs I’ve found in the game, it’s still really ambiguous

I hope the DLC story becomes better to add infected Crane in there. The current story is just… bad and changed from E3 4K Demo 🤢

The idea Crane turned into a volatile makes sense cause I remember in the beginning of the dying light 2 story someone mentioned him almost in a remembering him and what he's done way. To me it sorta sounds like we'll he died yes but died a hero/ sad death Also dying light is a great game but it was only after playing dying light 2 then going back to see the first game that I realized just how much of a difference/improvement (atleast graphics wise) the second game is.

The great thing about DL2 is that it doesn't render DL1 pointless as so many sequels do. If anything it makes me want to revisit Harran again.

I don't know how many know, but lthere is a sidequest in DL2 in which a guy does a quiz on you about these informations. I luckily answered all of them corectly without knowing too much :D

If the file containing the Virion structure did have all the information about it in there and it was released to the public then that means anyone could have started a new infection anywhere regardless if an infected left harran or not, Adding to this in a dying light event it tells how spike helps survivors leave harran and there's a good chance those who left were infected.
