What grows in this 110-year-old palm house?
Spanning 137 metres (450 feet), and split into 12 sections, the glasshouse at Clumber Park is the longest in the care of the National Trust. It was installed by the 7th Duke of Newcastle and completed in 1910. Its centerpiece is the palm house. In this video, I take a look at what grows there today.

Noice, think if I had that there'd be some infinity pools and swim up bars where they look out over the lawn. Guess it's true you can't buy class 😅

I often wonder what the constraints are that head gardeners are working within at the National Trust - budget, remit, taste etc. - but these glasshouse spaces can often feel underused. I'd go all in with huge palm specimens in the palm house, and various 'rooms' along the rest of it planted by habitat. But that's my dream with an infinite budget, of course.
