I lost my virginity to rape and contracted gonorrhea and Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) when I was a teenager and I was afraid to tell my parents what happened to me. This was 36 years ago. Back then, a simple 10-day course of tetracycline took care of all of it. Please, everyone, don't be embarrassed to tell people who can help you. For me, I missed my period from the infection and started to think I was pregnant, then I thought I was having a miscarriage because of the excruciating pain from the PID. I went for the next ten years believing I was sterile but miraculously now have two kids in their twenties.

R***e? Do you mean actual r***e or was it buyer's remorse? If it was actual r*** then did you register a complaint against the offenders. I tend not to believe women (unless provided clear evidence)who cry r**** because it's more often than not that women lie about it for sympathy.
trust no one. get tested at least every 6 months, and never pass up a test. your health is more important than pride or someone else's perceived promiscuity.

Please do more videos on STDs! Less talked about ones, like trichomoniasis or molluscum contagiosum, would be interesting since most people haven’t heard of them yet they are very common. This is a huge service to the public.

Yes, especially Molluscum Contagiosum! I worked with a young Acupuncturist as the office medical coordinator and looked over all the patients intake forms and insurance info before receiving treatment. The patient was honest and listed they had contracted Molluscum Contagiosum but didn't state how. The Acupuncturist went to go and exam the patient with no gloves on (this is normal in eastern medicine) but I had to pull him aside, show him exactly what the contagious disease was and that he MUST wear gloves during the entire treatment and be vigilant about recognizing other viral skin infections going forward. We are all work in progress and he was very grateful that I was there and brought my own medical expertise to the team from my prior experience working in public health programs!....

When I was 19 years old, I was infected with gonorrhea. I knew right away thing was wrong. It was the most painful stinky experience I have ever felt. I had green discharge. I had to use the bathroom a lot and it got to the point where I was peeing blood and it felt like razor blades was coming out of me when I peed. They gave me one shot of Rocephin and sent me home. It went away. Thank God, that was 20 years ago.

You forgot to talk about all the peoples who, affected by this std, do not go through the treatment fully and give it up as soon as the symptoms are decreasing. So this way the disease is weakened but not cured, getting more resilient from that exposure to the incomplete treatment and later on is spread again as a more tenacious variant making treatments less effective globally.

While in the Army, the story went that if you contracted the "Bull Clap" (as we would refer it), they would use the "Rod", which was supposedly a long Q-TIP to clean out the urethrae before you got a shot of penicillin. Or they would say they would put your junk on the table and they'd strike it with a rubber mallet. It was mostly a scare tactic and not very effective in stopping a trip to the local brothels.
I love how you are able to keep a straight face through the video.

A lot of STIs are asymptomatic so it's a good idea to get tested regularly, especially between partners or use condoms until every partner is tested. The screening can also pick up things like thrush or BV which can cause infertility problems of pelvic infections if left unteated.

I got scripted ceftriaxone, as said in the video, but my gonorrhea was resistant to it so i had to take yet another antibiotic that did work but fucked up my stomach for a week. I learned the (phonetic) Kla-pee-aye for clappier from my dad who stationed in France and Belgium for part of WW2 used that word rather bawdily in frightening his troops away from the putan (sex workers) in their locale. Any one who came back and asked to see the doc would have to return to dad with his diagnosis. Those who failed to heed the warning lost all leave permits. Daddy was worried about the left behind wives in the US. I guess this was before good treatment. But one could get an article 15 discipline for damaging 'government property'. STIs were considered a weapon that weakened mission effectiveness. Oh how times change....

I was guessing "clap" comes from the sonics of sexual intercourse. But also "clap* is a slang term similar to (and substitutable for) "fuck" (well at least in Australia). My guess is that people would be like "oh I was clapping this chick" and then weeks later they get some funny discharge, tell their mates and the mate were like "nah you got clapped/you got the clap/nah that's clapped". Lad gets tested and it's gonorrhea and now everyone says you got the clap.

Thanks for the education. It is better if the below questions are answered because the prevention lies there: 1. Why Gonorrhea is asymptomatic in the majority? 2. How it is able to coexist without harm to the host for the above question? 3. What are the habits in those, which make Gonorrhea symptomatic or become serious? Is it drug addiction or too many sex partners or alcoholism or what else? 4. Can genetic factors contribute to someone becoming asymptomatic or symptomatic? Finding the root cause is the best solution than treatment of symptoms as prevention is better than cure!

Depending on your blood group you can suffer from Reiter's syndrome, where you get conjunctivitis and acute arthritis caused by an imbalance between white and red blood cells. It is not very common probably about 6% stand a chance of getting this but it is very debilitating and can take months to recover even with treatment.

Great presentation! Reminds me of the countless hours I had spent in the cadaver lab. I miss those days. I had a name for each one of them...
I'm astounded that the 2nd option....would be an option! I can see the idea behind it "expressing the infection" but OUCH! Thank you for covering this subject with candor and a bit of humor, and I do agree, practice safely no matter what, it will be beneficial for everyone in the long run.

For viewers in Germany there is a similar home test kit as described in the video offered by the ‚Deutsche Aidshilfe‘ called S.A.M.-Test. Either a single use or as a regular subscription. Used it myself for years now. Good people, easy to use, altogether a good service. #notsponsored ^^

Argh, I think that the Rocephin shot should be enough to leave a lasting impression. When I was still in nursing, I gave that shot a lot at 250mg. Can't imagine it at 500 mg. I think that the second treatment option is an inconceivably bad idea!

This is another reason why it would be great if sex was legal. Undertesting/underreporting can be caused by fear of getting arrested. In the Netherlands, people are less reluctant - and regular testing is provided for licensed workers.

Here in Germany the recommended treatment is a combination of 1-2 g Ceftriaxon i.v. or i.m. in combination with Azithromycin 1,5 g p.o. Do you think this is overkill, or do we have different strains?

The 4th potential etymology of "the clap": A person's loud clapping in happiness for never getting this STI. I know I'm clapping.
Also, while I was going to college for my Biology degree (working toward Medical School but fell ill soon after graduating... still want to go for it though... I did graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Biology with two minors in Microbiology and Virology/Immunology... in other words, I worked my bum off!!), I also worked for a Planned Parenthood location that did all of their basic labs there on site. While I was working reception, one of the nurses came out and was excitedly trying to grab my attention. I finished checking the client out, and she took me back to the lab. She told me to look in her microscope. I did, and asked her why her sample was moving around so much? She jumped up and down, clapping her hands like a little kid, and said to me, "Because in all of my years this is the first time I've encountered this! THOSE ARE CRABS!!" So, the client I had just checked out, shook hands with, etc... she had an active infestation of pubic lice. I just gave her a look and went back to my desk. lol

How long ago did you work at PP? Is it normal for them to treat symptoms with antibiotics on the same day you take a urine test and before test results even show positive for any STI?
@berryberrykixx
Жыл бұрын
@@tychosound7020 Usually, yes, they will administer what is considered a prophylactic antibiotic. Often, the STI effects on a female (infertility, uterine scarring, etc.) will be worse than what any antibiotic will do to her (maybe a yeast infection) so it is considered a risk willing to take. Sometimes those who are visiting PP don't have insurance and sometimes can't afford the full course of antibiotics as well, so at least getting some dose into them is better than nothing at all. Some local jobs and family services departments (those who issue Medicaid or SNAP) will be able to cover the cost but it may take a day or two, so having that first dose will tide them over as well. Also, antibiotic resistance usually doesn't often occur with a single dose alone. AR would be more likely if the patient only uses the antibiotics until the symptoms disappear (so half or so of the full prescription) or if they keeping using the same antibiotics over and over for the same issue. I hope that helps!
@tychosound7020

@@berryberrykixx It indeed helps. I am a male that experienced some symptoms for the first time in my life, so I went in to get tested and that same day I was injected with ceftriaxone and given 7 days doxy. Came to find out the panel of STIs they tested for were all negative anyway. I've been struggling ever since those abx though. How about the patient profile they create? Are they able to see our vaccination status for COVID? Just trying to see if I can get a print out from them for job apps - lost my card and don't want to go to the .gov site lol

@@tychosound7020 I believe they can only get any vaccines that you have had with them. Even with my COVID immunizations, I lost my first card. I had my first shot at one place, then I moved and had the second and the booster at my new pharmacy. So now I have a card that is filled out for the second dose and the booster, but no first dose until I can get to my previous pharmacy. That is all down to privacy laws set up for your safety.
It's great that awareness about the complications and treatment are made available to the public. Especially sex is considered as a taboo topic. Back in 1980 I was going through my first pregnancy living in a rotten town around a lot of rotten people. My membranes ruptured at 23 weeks; a few days after that I gave birth to a daughter who lived for about 45 minutes. My OB said it was probably Chlamydia and tried to get through to me that my partner was cheating. Doc treated both of us, we moved far away from that rotten town, then the daughter we had at 37 weeks in 1984 is almost 39 and thriving. Partner-then-husband-then-ex finally confessed to the cheating 14 years after the fact. Point being that this shit is DANGEROUS; my safe sex is in the form of monogamy but I've heard that condoms work.
