    Very interesting video Doddy. Well after watching this I'm glad I chose some Vittoria tyres after alot of looking into what I needed, my Barzos turned up yesterday. Impressed how good they feel whilst fitting, seated on my rims with just a track pump too! I'll be out this evening after I've fitted the rear tyre and added my sealant to both. Awesome stuff #GMBNTech 👊

    @@vittoria one other thing I just noticed. I do the same run everyday, rough downhill path with rocks. The Martello tlr G2 is so smooth on such rough terrain. I'm running the same air pressure as I did on the Maxxis Minion, but they do not have this level of plushness coupled with solid predictability. This must be down to your 4 different types of rubber compounds? I have never ridden the turns so fast before. Thanks to the whole team Vittoria.

Got a Barzo in the mail and will put the barzo front, move mezcal to the rear as soon it arrives to see if i want to run 2x mezcal or barzo mezcal combo. Still have to ding my rims to get snakebites or get sidewall seepages but the stability from the sidewall feels much better so I'm pretty sure that is also better in the "cape cobra" version.

    I finally took a chance and decided to try Vittoria. I bought a set of Martello's, and man were they fantastic! Absolutely the best grip-vs-rolling tire I've ever used. Unfortunately, I had 3 rear flats in the 1st 3 weeks. Twice in the same day, on the same 1/4 mile of trail! All 3 punctures were identical. Inside corner knob tears that took 2 Stan's darts each to plug, and all were on the same side of the tire. This led me to think perhaps this tire was defective, and since I only had it 3 weeks, I emailed Vittoria for advice and perhaps a replacement, if they agreed it might be a defect. Sadly, I never got a response from Vittoria and had to go back to the, less desirable, Maxxis because I never puncture those. However, I kept the Martello on the front, because I'm addicted to the cornering performance. It's too bad. I really believe the performance of those tires are fantastic..

At first I thought the chain was slipping so I bought a new cassette and a narrow-wide chainring as well as a new chain. Installed them all but the problem persists. I think it's the hub not engaging properly. Even when it does engage there is about 90 degrees of free pedal play before it engages. What's the solution?

    Wow what a wonderful conversation! Thank you indeed. I still didn't catch he internal rim width to tire width thing though. I think I overshot it with my front wheel. I have a 23mm internal width and put a Maxxis Ardent 2.4 on there. I have had a burping and also a wash-out on a steep downward switchback. Fortunately I walked away with minor scratches. But I would like to know if the tire is too wide for the rim and if even a 25mm rim would work.

  • @gmbntech

    @gmbntech

    4 жыл бұрын

    As a general rule, the wider the rim the less chance of burp and roll, if you pair the thinner rim with a thinner width tyre then it's pretty stable right? But if you have a thinner rim, and a big old surface up top, your wheel becomes kind of top heavy, meaning when you lean it over it's going to be less stable and want to deform towards the ground. So generally speaking, wider rim, wider tyre, thinner rim, stick to thinner tyres.

  • @MG-eu1hs

    @MG-eu1hs

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@gmbntech Thank you. Indeed I figured that, but I was wondering what the limits or best combos would be. I think my bike would take max 2.4 up front and I would ideally like to pair that tyre with a 28mm rim. Getting a secondhand rim of 25-30 mm has been hard. I actually haven't found one yet. Then wen the rim is too wide, I run the risk of not getting the side knobs in a proper position to really get the traction. How would one pair these? Maybe just by experience, how have you paired them? These days your guys run 2.6 and 2.8 wide tyres, but what of the XC bikes? I have a very basic hardtail Silverback Spectra. I would like to get the most out of it and thought tyres is all I can really do to upgrade it with not much expense and a decent rim upgrade. The bike only cost R7500 (ZAR) which translates to about 350 pounds.

You can always look up local bike festivals or race series to see which brands sponsor and you can contact them to ask if they'll be demo-ing at a particular event, or look it up in that event's programme. However, due to COVID and the cancellation of a lot of events, this might be your least desirable option for now.

    This was suggested on the Faceache group but tyres need to be demoed, either pickup a demo set from your local shop or maybe better yet a demo day at a local bike park. Turn up with your bike you know and love, do a lap to know what yours are like, have the team bung on their rubber and go see how it feels. Tyres are just too expensive to be chucking on to see if it's any good esp if you're swapping brands, trying your mates bike doesn't tell you much. These look like a good alternative to my DHF/R set up, but at what, 60 quid an end? I'm not going to try it.

    @@LJS1605 of you case a jump to hard our you land on a sharp rock. Another reason is just repetitive use, if it happened over a long period of time, your probably reaching the end of the rims life span

    I'm running tubeless and dented a rim and it still seals up fine. The metal will be more fatigued there from being bent and reduce the life of the rim. I wouldn't bend it back which would cause the metal to fatigue further. Keep riding it but keep a close eye on how true the wheel spins and spoke tension. Start looking for the next rim or wheel set you want :)

    We think it's just weight Dennis! A solid tyre would be very heavy, considering most people don't want the weight to exceed the rough numbers that brands are able to hit now!

    So, this makes me want to go out and buy Victoria tyres… but, I’m pretty sure the Maxxis and Continental reps would sound just as convincing. How do we sort out all the options and find the right tire for our specific conditions and our riding styles? Can’t really test drive them and then take them back to the shop

    Also about price, a 70-90 dollar MTB tire is the best of the best for MTB performance. A 100 dollar car tire doesn't even come close to being the best car tire around, let alone being usable for racing (unless we're talking about ultra-budget racing series like Formula Vee)
