Maxxis Dissector 2.4" for the win! I've tried a Maxxis DHF 2.5", DHR II 2.4", Forekaster 2.35", Rekon 2.4" & WTB Vigilante 2.3" on the front of my trail bike. The Dissector is almost as fast rolling as anything I've tried with just enough grip to keep the front in check.

I just put the Continental Kryptotal Front & Rear on this week and I LOVE them. Sort of comparable to an Assegai/DHR setup I think..... Especially the front tyre which is very similar to the Assegai. Running Enduro Soft on both. I would love the lighter weight and more supple feel of the Trail casing, but where I ride I just don't want to deal with any potential tyre damage and these feel plenty burly and reliable. I would probably prefer the Super Soft too, but I ride a ton and want them to last. So far I don't feel like I'm lacking grip! The tubeless setup was also the easiest I've ever done. The tyre are such a tight fit and they just seat like a dream. Would love to hear what you guys think of them because so far I am one happy customer.

love the maxxis lineup but once owned a bike which came with specialized tires so I decided to give them a shot. I gotta say they're not bad what so ever, but they chirp and are a lot more audible when they're at the edge of their limits. Some people might not like that but it allowed me to use my ears to determine how much harder I could push them which was a totally new and fantastic experience. I'd definitely recommend them for newer riders

When I run my hardtail as a 27.5 + , I use a Rekon 2.8 , I did once try a Minion DHF 2.8 and it was great on the descents but like an anchor any other time! The Rekon is a great balance between grip and rolling speed . If I switch to the 29 wheelset always a DHF 2.5. In dry dusty and rocky Peru these work great. When I go back to England I use a Magic Mary up front as it clears mud great and really digs in well. Also grips well on wet roots.

Magic Mary F&R for me in So Cal (Laguna to Big Bear), I like the Assegai when I first put it on but it lets go with no warning and its sketchy if you push it to the limit. Very excited for the Specialized Cannibal which seems like a combo of both the minions with angled side knobs like the Magic Mary. The Continental Kryptotals felt more predictable and better in the loose than Assegai/DHR2 but not as good as the Magic Mary and they felt more sluggish climbing especially on pavement.

My favourite overall would definitely be the Assegai MaxxGrip DD or DH 27.5x2.5WT, closely followed by the Kryptotal Fr Super Soft DH 27.5x2.4. My favourite for winter (here in the PNW) would be the Magic Mary Ultra Soft SG or SD 27.5x2.4 or 2.6, followed by the Vittoria Mota Enduro casing 27.5x2.6 or 2.8.

I am addicted to testing tires and doing DH repeats at full send, so far after trying most tires the best weight to grip ratio I think is Kenda Hellkat 29x2.4 ATC up front and Conti Kryptotal 2.4 rear endurance casing for precise feeling grip and good wear. For tires that rail hard in all conditions, clear mud, and still pretty light for long days. If shuttling heavier casings for sure. Still need to test Argotal Enduro casing up front. Assagai feels vague to me so it also depends what ground feel builds confidence. Prefer open channel for a hard hook up, intermediaries have hardly any wear so appear pointless.

Most american or english speaking people pronounce Schwalbe like "Schwolbi" 😉 In german you pronounce the "a" in Schwalbe like the a in "car" in english and the e like the first e in "sense". Hope, that makes sense to you... ?! 😁 BTW: Schwalbe means swallow (the bird!) in german, thats why the old logo had a bird in it.

I've been running aggressor front and rear lately. I started with it on the rear and tried it on the front on a whim as well and it's working pretty good. Rolls faster than a dissector and only gives up a little grip. Most of our trails are hardpack/loose over hard down and then road climbs back up, so having something with decent road life is useful and the aggressor is the fastest rolling non xc tire i've found. If it gets wet, though, forget about it. You're gonna end up on your face first berm.

Really depends on the terrain. The 'Assguy' seems to be the go to tyre/tire in drier, hard packed conditions with the Magic Mary shining on the softer trails, in the UK anyway. I have a 2.6 Butcher that was amazing in the crazy summer we had and switched to a 2.4 Magic Mary in as we move into the wet season, will see how it does, may be too thin. All these tires/tyres seem to be great options though!

On a whim bought some Versus All Mtn trail casing tires. At first I found them pretty harsh and "bouncy." So I tried running them at pretty low pressures -- 18 front, 24 back and they are very nice on rocky, hard pack, terrain and have nice feedback. Terrible, I mean terrible in wet.

Tangentially related to the video and Continental [gravel] tires... My girlfriend trained [on the course] and raced unbound on Continental Terra Speeds... about 450mi of time in the Flint Hills. This race is notoriously hard on tires and she didn't experience a single flat, while in the same time I received three flats on my Specialized Pathfinder Pros. As a matter of fact, I can't find _anyone_ who ran Terra Speeds that got a flat (Obviously selection bias applies here, buy hey). While this video is about mountain bike tires, not gravel, the incredible durability of the Terra Speeds makes me want to try their MTB offerings.

Run a Spec Butcher 29 2.3 T9 on the front/ Maxxis Minion DHR II 29 2.3 EXO casing on the rear. Ride mainly in loamy, rooty, terrain. That combo mates well for me on a trail bike.

Living in Michigan. I run Nobby Nic Snakeskins (old generation) on front and rear for my Ripmo and Ripley. They work great on the flow trails. I've tried the Assegai, Minion, Rekon, and Ardents and find them unnecessarily heavy, soft, and slow for the dirt-based trails here. While the Assegai can rip corners amazingly well, I can't really utilize all that traction while knifing through trees. The Nobby Nics have a better balance of traction and acceleration. The Dissector sounds interesting ....

Latest impressions: Vee Tire DH casing Attack HPL 2.5 are almost “too sticky”. Had to put a front fender on because it kept launching stones and sand into my mouth! 😖 Amazing damping, but very slow rolling. Specialized T9 Butcher trail casing 2.5 is a great balance of grip to rolling resistance. Works on both my downcountry and EMTB. Might try the Cannibal next. 😎👍

DHR II EXO+ (F), trying a Dissector EXO+ (R) both 2.4WT. Central Texas limestone riding mostly. Would appreciate you asking staff again this year, and if a Maxxis tire what would they ride if Maxxis wasn't available. Really interested in Conti and Vittoria lineups.

I'm running Teravail Kessal/Honcho combo on my turbo levo, minion DHF/DHR on my enduro bike, and Magic Mary/Big betty get tossed on there as well. The Teravails might be my favorite. The Maxxis tires go flat nearly daily and tend to leak out of the sidewalls. I don't have that issue with any other tires I run. Oh and my Levo originally came with a Butcher T9 and Elminator T7 and to be honest, I like that combo better than the Minions. The butcher just wore out fast is the only reason I don't have them on now, but it is a soft compound.

I'm also running the Kessel up front, Honcho in the rear. I prefer a fast rear tire that I can break loose when I want. Love this combo. And yeah, if it wasn't for Maxxis' marketing, sponsors, and being factory spec'd on bikes, people wouldn't be such fan boys I think.

I've run a vigilante and a magic mary before on my trail bike, but now I run a vittoria barzo front and rear, and to be honest I don't notice much difference in grip between them in the conditions I ride in, plus the barzo's have much better rolling resistance, so you can ride for longer before running out of energy, plus they knock half a kg off your bike in the place where you notice it the most.

Tire models are usually compared without consideration for casing and compound. What I’m curious on is; how would a Dissector in MaxTerra compare to DHF/DHR in DC for grip and rolling? Does the 3C make the Dissector grippier than those in DC and still roll quicker?
