Maxxis MTB Tire Guide: DHF vs DHR II vs Assegai vs Dissector vs Aggressor vs High Roller vs Ikon

Спорт

We are back with an updated mountain bike tire guide for Maxxis in 2020. There have been a few additions to the Maxxis bike tire lineup including the desired Dissector tire which we can't keep in stock and a few tires have been taken out of the lineup. Although most of Maxxis' tires remain the same like their notorious Minion DHF and DHR II Tires, we felt like it might be a good idea to update our tire guide to help you guys stay up to date on the current Maxxis MTB tire options. Jeff goes over what makes the XC lineup different from the Enduro or DH line and even gives out some recommendations on tire combinations like the DHRII and Rekon, Reckon and Rekon Race, etc. So if you don't know the difference between an Ardent Race Tire or a Shorty, press play and learn yourself a thing or two about some good ol' Maxxis rubber.

I run the ardent race front and rear. I live in South Louisiana and the trails here tend to be mostly river silt and hard pack. It's extremely fast rolling, which is great for the trail surfaces here, and it still has plenty of grip. We don't have lots of big, chunky rocks and broken up terrain, so the lighter casing works just fine

What a great video!. Especially like the bit about knob spacing and height. The only thing (my $.02) I can add... much of the grip comes from the sharp, square edge of the knobs. If the edges of the knobs are worn smooth, available grip goes down. I found out the hard way: road miles on mountain bike tire... not a good thing. Cheers

Maxxis Ardent front & rear. Over 3,000 miles on them. Maxxis or nothing. Before I got them I was thinking about other brands cause they never crossed my mind. When I decided Maxxis I was set on the Ikon but the bike shop guy asked a few questions & led me to the Ardent. Only bought 1 so I could try it out. Put it on the front & was so impressed I bought it again for the rear. I want to try a different set of Maxxis but the Ardent never let me down, never a flat, phenomenal traction year round, I might just keep getting the Ardent. I've ridden all conditions. Assegai front/Aggressor rear is money! The Assegai grabs everything and the Aggressor rolls faster and allows the rear to break loose a little bit without feeling out of control. Had the Assegai front/rear and it was good but almost felt too grippy in the rear. Still need to try the Dissector in the rear!

Having various types of trails in NZ is a blessing and a curse. Always fun and different trails but never really the right tire. I'm running high roller 2s but will probably upgrade to assegais

i've been running the 2.4/2.5" High Roller II on my Giant Trance and it seems to work great even in deep snow, not sure i'd ever need something more aggressive for trails around here.

Help needed! I am looking for a lighter rolling setup then DHF/Aggressor. Ride in mixed conditions (little mud, little robot sections, loam, Gravel) no super step downhills. I am looking at Rekon as rear and then Dissector front or a Forekaster or try the DHR2 front and live with a little drag? Any advice?🤘

I really like most of maxxis tires because always has a type of terrain the have good performance. From popular xc tyre larsen tt(high roller 2.0, aspen etc), to some dual ply dh tyres(minion dhf high roller 2, and 1) i tested many of them, some of mud types included(like beaver), but i always return to my origin with high roller. I know is not the most "complete" tyre, but for me, is a tyre that you have no doubt of what can do, or cannot do. Dispite of this, i have curiosity for the assegai, because his cornering grip seems to be similar to high roller 2, and the other properties are a mix of good maxxis tyres. The most popular maxxis tyre in my bikes is high roller, but i use other makers too, like continental, they have good and quality tyres, and in cheap tyres i think schwalbe has good tyres in low prices.
