You guys are wonderful lol
The techyness in me would like to update to the latest and greatest across the board. But I'm honestly happy with Windows 10 and history says there's ALWAYS teething problem when an OS first rolls out. I'll be waiting some time before the update.
These guys are awesome I bought a cord a couple a days on the website and the next day they call me to get something straight they were so respectful and we got it fixed in minutes if you ever need anything guitar/music but from these guy10/10
Phenomenal content as always Mitch!
Mitch is a good man, smart advice as always.
Nice overview and resources. :)
I can’t even imagine Sweetwater’s KZread channel without Mitch Gallagher!
Great video! Thanks guys you all are the best!
very useful video and articles, esply those 11 compatibality guides. i'm no musican and not using all kinds of sftwrs but i like this attidute.
You can always get something like VMware and try things out in a virtual machine first before upgrading or if you need multiple versions of an OS.

Agreed. I even went to an image for my primary 10 system. Easy to create a backup.
I am currently using Linux with Windows compatibility layers. That works fairly well for me. I had to modify software to get it to work, but native support is getting better every day.
Upgrades are always a pain, especially when you're talking Windows! Something ultra basic always seems to disappear without explanation. In the current context, I used to have access to both soundcards (DAW and built-in) via the speaker icon bottom right. Could run both soundcards at the same time, if, for example, I wanted to jump between monitoring with headsets on my audio interface, to running something off the PC through my speakers. But with Windows 11, both soundcards don't show up anymore, and on the settings, it would appear that I can only choose one soundcard at a time. Now I'm guessing I'm missing something, but it's just annoying that something I viewed as quite basic, appears to have just disappeared as an option.
Only upgrade when you’re forced to on a Windows box. Wait at least 1.5 years after release.

Yep, all my Windows boxes at work will be waiting until 2025.
Definitely waiting until Avid has confirmed compatibility and my audio interface manufacturer. I am interested to see what W11 offers though. Might give it a test run on my laptop.

Any chance windows 11 works with izotope?
Thanks for this video. My doubt is what does Windows 11 add for musicians? I see the need for caution and taking it slowly before updating. But, am I missing much by waiting and not upgrading my PC to meet W11's requirements? How much?
but what benfits if any does win 11 offer over 10 for DAW users? is there any sort of performance/stability boost of interest to DAW users or is it more cosmetic and feature enhancements?
Thanks Mitch!
Thank You!
If they could make it to where you can remove the Xbox app, that would be great.
Are the audio drivers easier to use for live streaming?

This is the most basic advice but it seems NOBODY DOES. People should be doing frequent snapshots along with external total backups monthly and incremental backups daily.
As usual I will leave W11 until its reliability is established. I'm hoping they don't have any plans for charging subscriptions, if so Linux here I go!

I'm not updating to Win11 until it's been out for a few years and I'm confident it won't cause any issues. I did the same thing with Win10 and didn't update from 8.1 to 10 until 2018 lol
I just updated to windows 11 and after many years of troubleshooting some crackling noises, pops, clicks that my interface caused (i did basically everything you can do to fix it) Windows 11 finally fixed this and I havent had any pops or clicks ever since... Hope it stays this way.

Great video but u forgot one thing, MS is not showing consideration at all for music producers or gamers, VBS can nurf a CPU performance up to 25%, at moment it is a choice whether to enable it if updating from WIN 10, HOWEVER.... those buying a new PC with WIN 11 will have VBS enabled by default. The question that MS is not answering is if VBS will be a requirement going forward and will no longer be able to be turned off in the BIOS ;)
@2112jonr

VBS ?
Its out ??
No need to upgrade until 2025. So carry on!
For me, Win 11 works much better than 10 (plus, it's cleaner and more organized). I have an Apollo Twin X Duo Thunderbolt running on my HP ZBook 15 G3 laptop (Core i7, 16GB Ram, NVMe 512 + 4TB Seagate external HDD). And everything is going great.
I will not upgrade until I get upgrades on software. That feature of OneDrive, no no no no. I had to get my computer tech to turn that off. It caused so many problems for me. I do not want my music out on the web on a drive. I have a separate drive for that.
Can we LOCK in the Default Audio Device? Not just select in 1 click.
Links does not work
If your PC and DAW and plugins works excelent you don't need Win 11!!! Amen.
Let's talk about the elephant in the room. The supported processor list for W11.
that TPM is alone gonna make tons of people upgrade the systems :(
I can buy fl studio the package of 500 in window 11 ? because I don’t want to lose my money !
definitely a hard pass

heckin' no way! i'm on UA firewire still, so i'm already in legacy mode, i'm afraid 11 will whipe me out and the "additions" for selecting a soundcard are already in win10, so its whatever
It means nothing to me. Don't touch the stuff... don't do Windows.
somebody PLEASE, call someone from microsoft and tell them to pitch the idea of audio drivers support, something that works like USB Audio CODEC, i cant use pro tools with my interface, cause for some reason inputs always get disable and force me to close any apps using the inputs and disable the input in system settings, and then reopening the daw, and i cant go under 512 buffer size or it starts to flicker, when my machine can handle a buffer size of 32 when using ableton with intensive plugins, WINDOWS SUCKS when it comes to audio compatibility

i would love a REAL solution for updating the korg wavestate from a low version using the existing windows 10. the sweetwater tech tip is useless because windows wont recognize the wavestate as any type of USB device, only an error 43 i believe, so the usb driver from apple cannot be associated with the wavestate. korg user support said sorry, try an old version of windows. What if someone there who actually is good with windows actually develops a solution vs some regurgitated info which does not work. Y'all keep going on about "experts". well let's see some expertise and not just sales hype.

There are numerous videos on KZread about how to fix this problem. And don't blame Korg or Sweetwater. Microsoft were the cause with one of their infamously badly tested updates, that removed driver support.

I bought a new computer 1 year ago with Windows 11. 6 months into it suddenly I get that nasty stutter, click and pop in my audio. I've run Latencymon and It's always the same drivers with DPC latency. NVLDDMKM.SYS not getting along with WD01000.sys . Everyone is stumped. I tried every usual step all over the internet. Sweetwate tried to help, Universal Audio tried, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Dell all tried. I even returned the computer for repair and still it came back with the same issue. Graphics card replaced by Dell, same issue. Has anyone else found this issue and actually solved it. I rolled back the driver to the old one from a year ago. It's much better but still spikes after an hour. Is there an acceptable level of this? Is this an NVIDIA issue or a MICROSOFT windows 11 issue?
@cruscifer
9 ай бұрын
NVLDDMKM.sys is the NVIDIA driver. I have to run my NVIDIA card at full high performance power setting in nvidia control panel, not the adaptive power setting. The adaptive changing of voltage to the GPU triggers the IRQ interrupt that causes Latencymon to show nvlddmkm, sys in the red. NVIDIA supposedly addressed some issues with DPC in a recent driver but after I installed the driver I still had the same issue. To fix DPC latency you have to trace it back to what causes the IRQ interrupt request and stop it. I currently am hearing win 11 has more DPC problems that win 10 so I am not upgrading.
