Leslie I use to think age was a state of mind UNTIL this year. I celebrated my jubilee year (75) in October and man what a difference in the way I’ve felt. Guess I’ve just been in denial that I was getting old. So with that said I have started cutting back with decorating and other stuff. I am going through my decor items and donating what I haven’t used for a few years. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and seeing Jason. Whatever you decide to do I’ll be right there with you.

Yes, Leslie! You hit the nail on the head this video with the idea of just using the things you already have to freshen up your outlook. Moving a piece of furniture to a new spot, switching out rugs or pictures, changing out bedding--that's all you need to give your life a big lift! Out with clutter in the New Year and bring on the imagination and fresh perspective! I'm glad you're feeling so well now. Love Jason too and hope his days are the best he can enjoy. Your family is amazing. Love to you and all in 2024 💞

I'm 72 this year, my husband suffered a severe brain injury in 2019 so he was "taken from me" suddenly!! I always am interested in watching how things go as Jason's illness progresses & how you cope. It would be interesting to include a small update on his progress at intervals and how you are both coping. I know it will become increasingly difficult on the other channel but we do care. I would be interested in reusing existing decor & also decluttering etc. I wish you both strength moving forward. ❤

I've been enjoying your videos for a few years, and I'm now 60 😮. The direction of NOT always purchasing new to refresh the home is definitely what I'd like to see. If you decide to incorporate over 50 topics that's a bonus! I also find comfort following you and Jason's journey since I'm a caregiver for my Mom with severe dementia. Keep staying true to what makes you comfortable creating because you're doing great ❤️

I’m 38 & LOVE your heart, decor, positivity & you are an inspiration to me. I have a daughter with extreme disabilities, and it is very moving and helpful to see someone who is loving Jesus through their struggles. In addition to your decor, speaking and sharing your heart through your difficulties is very helpful. I truly appreciate your openness and the joy you have for life, while being honest about life struggles. You may not be interested in this kind of stuff, but I enjoy cleaning videos, Christian life inspiration, and decor. Praying for your sweet family! You inspire me!

I’m 76 years old living on a very fixed income. I thrift or shop sales and coupons regularly. I love your style and your beautiful home, but I am a minimalist. I pray for you and since my sister-in-law has Alzheimer’s it is helpful.

I'm 66 and I have been downsizing and donating for about 2 years and have a ways to go. I rarely buy anything anymore because I don't feel the need at this point in my life. I am content with less and with what I have. I follow you because of who you are. You are a breath of fresh air; you are authentic, genuine, and sincere. I would like to see a day in the life of when you are on a few hours break of what you do to make yourself happy and refreshed. I would like to hear your secrets or suggestions on how to stay motivated to keep going. Whether it be with exercise, eating right, being joyful, not getting down etc. Because with age does come those aches, pains, changes in our bodies, mind and soul. I would like easy recipes for cooking for 2 because I really hate to cook but need easy ideas. I enjoy your porch decorating, your home refresh. Perhaps show us how you "shop your home" to change things up. Whatever you do, it will be great. Just listening to you, seeing your smile and watching you giggle makes my day!!

I am 66 years old. Cleaning out a family farm established in 1896 and generations of stuff, plus 5 other houses cleaned, decluttered and sold. I have donated, sold, re-purposed, re-arranged, etc. I keep things fresh but heading towards minimizing so I can travel, spend time with friends & family, etc. My caregiver responsibilities are over, time with family and friends re-established, 3 heart attacks and brittle IDDM. As a nurse and prior hospice experience I have stayed and helped friends stay home and usher them through the death process more often than I ever thought because if the young ages as well. We have to re-evaluate our lives and goals once our caregiver responsibilities are done and it can be confusing the first year. Your goals are spot on and interesting. Anything you post I will watch because of your authenticity ❤️.

Also you don’t have to buy anything and at this stage in life, I can relate to “shopping your home” for decor and simple changes. Those of us struggling with loved ones who have dementia would appreciate you honestly presenting the difficulties Jason is facing as time goes on. We don't all have dementia caregivers' support groups, so your videos search that function and are very helpful. Jason doesn't need to be present in the videos, you can do them on your own -- just tell us what you've experienced with Jason during the last month, without sugar coating. Keeping his struggles in a "bubble" doesn't help anyone. Dementia isn't an ugly word, it's a reality for a large segment of the population and is best dealt with using honesty.

Pushing procrastination out of the way to motivate ourselves to ‘Just get it done’. Then finding techniques to keep our spaces that way! And no spend / inexpensive decorating DIYs would be terrific too!!! Not sure if I’d be interested in over 50 lifestyle but I’ll keep coming back now matter what you decide!!!! 👍. Wishing you and Jason a blessed year and the hope that his dementia can be slowed down with new meds and prayers!!!! Thanks for all you share and know we all love you!!!

I love the new direction you are taking your channel. I am especially excited about a series about using what you already have to update your home. I am not a big DIY person and I stopped buying a ton of new decor a long time ago, so this sounds like a fun and refreshing new take on home decorating videos. Having said that, I do enjoy all of your decorating videos, especially your table and porch decorating ones, but it makes so much sense that you do not want to keep purchasing new stuff all the time, especially if the only reason you are doing it is to use it in a video. Decorating with what you already own sounds really fun to me. I also love the idea of over-50 lifestyle and recipe videos. I am almost 63 so I think I will find the over-50 lifestyle videos useful. By the way, I was surprised to hear you are going to be 50 - I am a relatively new subscriber and thought you were early 40s at the most. I am sad to hear Jason's dementia has progressed so much recently. I pray for you both ❤

I purged a lot through a garage sale and donations last fall, and I took a break from buying, but then I bought more Christmas decor. I’d love to get some ideas on how to purge what you really don’t need, with keeping enough to have things to bring out seasonally or for a fresh change. But do not push yourself! I started watching your channel a couple of years ago because one of your videos showed up in my "suggestions" and it was around the time that you uploaded a video about Jason's early onset Dementia. After that video - I subbed. It's your sweet and caring personality that keeps me watching. My lifestyle and my schedule doesn't allow me to decorate a lot and "Charming Abode" is the only decorating channel I watch. It's not the decorating, the DIY projects or the recipes that keeps me watching your videos. I enjoy hearing you tell your "story" with an authentic and genuine heart and if your "story" is mixed in with some decorating and DIY projects - that's just "extra" (ha). Going forward ---- create the content that interests you and just be yourself and your subs will stay and you'll build your channel and grow. You are a a true joy to watch and I'm sure that most of your subscribers would agree. Happy New Year to you and Jason and God bless you both.

Yes please, cut back on shopping. I love the idea of shopping your home, upcycling and finding ways to give things a new purpose. Although, I do enjoy when you visit decor stores to see what is trending out there. Your decision to limit videos on the other channel makes perfect, loving sense.

Love the idea of over 50’s content. I too am at a stage of life where I do not want to accumulate more. I have less energy to deal with lots of stuff so I actually love decluttering videos and making homes fresh by taking away decor rather than adding more. I love your style sense, so please do not feel at all pressured to buy new items to decorate. With your sense of style, you would be able to show us how to swap around our light items of furniture and decor to freshen up our homes. Please take care of yourself as you have a lot on your plate. I will keep following you regardless of what you decide your content will be.

Hi Leslie! I am super interested in over 50 beauty! But honestly, I love all your videos. Your recipes a couple of weeks ago were the BOMB!! I know what you mean about clutter. I get so nervous with it! I keep purging and it feels so good! Hope you and Jason have a Happy New Year. What a wonderful thing that immunotherapy is! So happy for you.

It sounds like you have a whole series of declutter you could do if Jason will let you. One drawer at a time is plenty. I do love seeing those. It is very motivating and the before and after is usually so striking. Reusing what we have is another great series because we all see things a little differently and the uses some come up with are really clever or the changes people make to things they already have that gives them new life is inspiring. I am twenty years over fifty so that series on 50s lifestyle would be fun to watch. Fitness tips? Helpful routines?Always love recipes. Always love seeing what a difference something as simple as paint can make. Love my faith so any Bible insights as you go through your journey would be great. Definitely understand that updates on Jason may not be helpful to him at this stage, but we still love his humor and are encouraged by what he does do, so a "what Jason's been up to" compilation video might be fun occasionally and keep that channel going. Might mean videoing him doing yardwork, housework, meals with you, seeing grandkids...more upbeat things. Just seeing the picture of you before you knew your immune issues and your picture now, we can see a difference. From the clip you showed talking about your health, the circles under your eyes were so dark and now there are none. So glad you are feeling healthy. It is something we all tend to take for granted. All the best and God bless.

Then the name of the channel should be changed? Living with dementia should include the negatives…I thought that’s what the channel was for, documenting the “journey”, especially for other dementia patients/caregivers going through similar experiences. Just my thoughts.

Im over 50 as well. A few of my favorite types of videos I watch regularly are cleaning routines. I like to see how other people do things. Like do you dust daily, or once a week , vacuuming daily or what? I find that I struggle with a routine. Also I like watching decluttering and organization videos. Of course I love the decorating videos but I love the variety as well.

The idea of buying product just to let us choose has never been my favorite. I would not shop at Pottery Barn. I don’t need to spend that much. I love finding new looks with something I have. Your health journey is amazing.I am so glad you are feeling better. So whatever you decide to share…count me in. Happy to watch.

I just found you today but will keep you in mind!

Leslie, I will honestly watch whatever you do. I became first interested in Jason’s diagnosis as I am a retired nurse, then started watching A Charming Abode. Recipes, declutterring, book recommendations, your faith are just suggestions. I love it when you catch a very short clip of Jason maybe helping in the kitchen. But I agree with not filming the negative and protecting your privacy and his. 35 years ago I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. I tried statins off and on through the years, but side effects and small reductions were not worth the risks. My dad and brother both had open heart surgeries, but God finally hit me over the head in saying no to statins and I couldn’t tolerate anything else. Maybe 5-6 years ago a specialist quickly diagnosed me with the genetic condition of high Lipoprotein A. Sure enough, some of my family has it, too. I give myself a shot every two weeks with absolutely no side effects and a normal cholesterol. So I was so happy to see that you finally have a strong immune system! ❤️🙏❤️

Hi Leslie! I'm 65. Another consideration about your demographics...those of us who are older are probably retired, so we actually have more time to watch KZread videos 😆 In all seriousness, I LOVE your channel! You have taught me so much these past few years (let's just say I wouldn't be without my dough bowls now). One of the advantages of doing videos for an "over 50" crowd, is that we have spent years accumulating "stuff" like home decor, so even though we enjoy seeing all of the new things, perhaps a video or two on how you are repurposing what you have for use in other rooms, or even how you decide to let go of some things would be interesting. Trust me, many of us are in that season. It's hard to let go of things that you love. I'm struggling with that right now because it's time to downsize. So anything you do using a more minimalist approach (but not minimalism) would definitely appeal to me. Keep on doing your videos of what's new in the stores though. Those are just plain fun, even if you don't buy anything! Thank you for all of your hard work bringing these videos to us each week. It shows! Wishing you and Jason a Happy New Year and may God bless your 2024!

Great video - I will be 60 this month. (first time I put that in writing) lol Been in a bit of denial but it will be okay and good and I am so glad I am still alive and kicking. I enjoy your channel. I appreciate your transparency and your positive outlook. I am the caretaker of my 21yo disabled son. I can relate to so much of what you said about TMI. Regarding your channel, I am so glad you are on KZread. Honestly, I do not go to the other social media sites because I just do not want to spend that much time in front of my computer. Something I do enjoy watching from other decor channels is when the person goes into other peoples homes and decorates. It doesn't even have to be a room. It could just be a front porch or a bathroom or a shelf. Tours of other peoples homes or stores such as a garden center. Just to look at the decor and how it is being displayed (not to buy). Hope that makes sense. I do recognize that this may not be an option for you as you are also a caretaker. I would love more of the lifestyle stuff as well. Health & Beauty tips for mature women. BTW, I have been using the mascara you suggested on one of your recent videos and really like it. Happy New Year to all of us. (I think this is the longest comment I have ever written). 😁

Thank you for not buying more stuff. It’s my least favorite thing. It’s an American thing: buying new stuff every season. We make too many consumer goods, buy too many and dispose of too much. It’s not sustainable. We can decorate using items from multiple sources. And we don’t need to copy trends. And since you appeal to an older demographic, we know that we are not accumulating more, we are releasing more stuff. Thank you for sharing your experiences with Jason. You both have the right to share as much or as little as is comfortable. I like the mix of things you present. Just be you.
