“Lovers of themselves” is hyperbole for narcissism and self-absorption, especially to the detriment of our relationships with others, and Christ more importantly. No disrespect; but it’s so sad to see us constantly either go to that extreme, or to intense legalism such as the example seen in this video. I look forward to us becoming a people of scriptural context and balance one day.

To take it a step further the Bible actually labels self seeking as demonic James 3:14-16 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

But if you are very hard and self-critical..if you are full of self-rejection, wouldn’t it be necessary to change that if we are to love others? I get what he’s saying and perhaps in the context there is an answer to the question. To me loving myself in a healthy way is to accept myself, and to treat myself and speak to myself in accordance with 1 Corinthians 13. I really struggle with my view of myself sn this clip leaves me with just questions.(even though I see where he’s coming from).

I love God so much. He has saved me from the darkest parts of my life. I rely on him and I only trust him. I am starting to make lots of friends. I have loved ones who I care for deeply. I am grateful God has placed them in my life. Lately though. I have been feeling this overwhelming hatred for myself. It’s hard to explain. But I’ve been exhausted. I have lots of health issues and a rly busy work and school schedule. But I’m grateful for those experiences. I just noticed that I rly hate myself. I get so upset with myself. I love myself because God loves me. But daily I struggle to think I am so tired of being alive and just want to go home. I cry consistently every day & I can’t shake this idea. I’ve a experienced it before when I was in my teens dealing with depression. Which I now know was serious spiritual warfare. God delivered me from suicide & self harm. But now recently I feel the love of God yet I am tired of living & fighting and just want to go to heaven. I know these things might sound selfish. I’m sharing it bc I am in need of help. Thank you ❤may God bless all that are seeking his kingdom!

Shalom Vlad, I absolutely understand what you say... Yet, at the same time i have terrible troubles with it... Let me explain: First of i do believe, see and act in the sense that others arround me are more valueable then me. And i do pick up my cross daily by giving everything (which is first my relationship with Christ and every waking moment of my existance) in my life for the sake of the gospel. 🕊❤😇 Yet, at the same time i'm terribly lonely because i have no one who really desires my presence. Which is hardly bareable in the sense of normal relationships but not bearable in the sense of someone to love in the Adam and Eve kind of way. Because of this, it's intens to do this. And keep on going... If there was just one steady person who loved me in the same way that i give myself for the love of Christ. Then it would be so easy to bear it, yet at this moment it doesn't exist... I hope this will not be for the entirety of my life, but it feels like it is gonna be that way... What's good (biblical)news for someone in my situation??? For i can't find much to lift me up these days... Especially because i recently met someone who i really liked (and i think she liked me too...) but i cannot get in contact with her anymore... She could contact me (because she knows my first and last name in writen form) but i cannot contact her...

To love yourself is not in the sense of placing oneself on a pedestal in front of God and others-it means responsible self-governance of one's body, soul, and spirit in order that you can be a better steward of God in relation to other people. We are not to condemn ourselves nor are we to laud ourselves better over others. Paul even says for us to think ourselves no better than one another but always having our view upward and onward to Christ. We inhabit the spirit of the evil one when we have the horizontal lens of understanding reality instead of always looking upward to Christ. We are not look horizontal toward one another in fault-finding and neither looking down condemning ourselves as “far too gone” and too far from receive God's transformative grace.

I don’t know but I think he’s not thinking about those of us who deal with self-rejection or self-hatred. Obviously we have to overcome that and be settled in our identity in Christ and not be an enemy within. I felt like that you till I read other comments of people who were relating to the “loving yourself” in a totally different way. I looked 1Corinthians 13 and just saw that how I treated myself wasn’t in line at all with it! I think that becoming more patient and kind to myself would be a really helpful thing!! So I think we are missing some context. It’s ok. Keep working with Jesus and ask Him to show you what you need to do.

The last one is to live your neighbor (which includes random strangers and people you don’t actually like) AS you love yourself. It’s all one and can’t be cut up. If I live in a state of self-rejection I may be able to love my grandchildren to a degree but I will not be able to love difficult people or give myself fully.

Atheism, in the broadest sense, is an absence of belief in the existence of deities. Less broadly, atheism is a rejection of the belief that any deities exist. In an even narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Atheism is contrasted with theism, which in its most general form is the belief that at least one deity exists. Historically, evidence of atheistic viewpoints can be traced back to classical antiquity and early Indian philosophy. In the Western world, atheism declined as Christianity gained prominence. The 16th century and the Age of Enlightenment marked the resurgence of atheistic thought in Europe. Atheism achieved a significant position in the 20th century with legislation protecting freedom of thought. According to estimates there are at least 500 million atheists in the world.[1] Atheist organizations have defended the autonomy of science, ethics and secularism. Arguments for atheism range from philosophical to social and historical approaches. Rationales for not believing in deities include the lack of evidence,[2][3] the problem of evil, the argument from inconsistent revelations, the rejection of concepts that cannot be falsified, and the argument from nonbelief.[2][4] Nonbelievers contend that atheism is a more parsimonious position than theism and that everyone is born without beliefs in deities;[5] therefore, they argue that the burden of proof lies not on the atheist to disprove the existence of gods but on the theist to provide a rationale for theism.[6] Atheism, in the broadest sense, is an absence of belief in the existence of deities. That's not true! Your eyes should be focused on you. You are the ultimate good. You are the one who has the power to reshape your reality as you wish. You won't find me outside. Search within yourself. Don't get lost. Open your curiosity and seek the truth. You're almost there. ❤️
