What Does SÓ Mean in Brazilian Portuguese? | Improve Your Portuguese |
'SÓ' is such a short but very interesting word. It can be used as an adjective and as an adverb! Quite surprising, isn't it? In today's lesson, you will learn that 'SÓ', as an adjective, is equivalent to 'sozinho', 'sozinha' (alone - lonely); and as an adverb, it is equivalent to 'somente', 'apenas' (only - just). You will also learn some common phrases used in Brazil with the word 'SÓ'.

Que legal!! Você também canta? 😃 Correção - 'Quando eu ME SINTO só (...)' - In this kind of use, the verb 'sentir' requires a reflexive pronoun (Quando eu me sinto só / Quando você se sente só / Qunado nós nos sentimos só / ...)

'Somente' e 'só' são intercambiáveis. Ex. Eu comprei só uma calça. / Eu comprei somente uma calça. (não comprei nada além de uma calça.) Ex. Eu só comprei uma calça. / Eu comprei uma calça somente (não fiz nada além de comprar uma calça.)
