I'm a Jaguars fan, and I'm actually really cool with this pick. First we have a really good backup if Trevor gets hurt. Part of why we had issues late in last season was Trevor was playing hurt. Now we have a viable backup who can fill in. Second, Mac Jones now has a low pressure environment where he can learn from Doug and his staff as well as Trevor. Finally he can either stay as a backup or if he learns and gets better will be really good trade bait in a year or two.

Pats fan, I feel like Mac lost confidence in the O-line and tried to play like Patrick Mahomes when that isn't his game. He's a pocket QB with a bad line and no weapons. All you can do is take the shots from pass rushers or throw it away.

Honestly, I don't know what to feel about this. Mac Jones probably won't get another opportunity, but at the same time he gets a fresh start. The staffing of Bill belichick really ruined Mac jones, but hopefully he gets another opportunity. As a Patriots fan, I wonder who will actually get with pick number 3

​@@stephensullivan1011it makes some sense from the jags' perspective, trevor was banged up (a lot) last season, and should have sat a number of games - his 'toughness' kind of ended up tanking the season imo - but even beathard managed to get injured in his very limited time on the field, so at least this way we can maybe sit trevor if he's that banged up again and not run the risk of literally running out of viable qb's.

It’s just to get a good backup for Trevor.. he gets hurt a lot.. mac just needs to work on his game when he comes in be good… you have an offensive coach.. sit and maybe next year maybe get to competitive for a starting job next season

you're operating on the assumption that anyone in the NFL had any interest in bringing in Mac Jones to be "their guy" lol competing for a backup job is exactly what his talents are suited for, and nobody in the league would have any interest in giving up any more of an asset to try him out for any more of a role than that....... Mac Jones is a bottom of the barrel NFL QB, nobody is selling anything of value to promise him any kind of significant role

Trevor is not what anyone would call “good”. Lawrence is serviceable at best. He reminds me of Jameis during his rookie contract. Good enough to get by but not good enough to break the bank on.

When he had an actual good OC in Josh he was decent. Then he got coordinated into oblivion like many qbs sadly do. It is so important for young players, especially qbs, to get consistent coaching in their early years. Even elite qbs like Mahomes wouldn’t be where they are if not for solid coaching

Patriots were shopping Mac for a 5th Round Pick and had no takers. Then they had to make phone calls to collect a 6th Round Pick for Mac Jones. He's lucky the Jaguars agreed to take him for a 6th Round as backup QB's are a dime a dozen and no one gives up any draft picks for that position.

Mac had no coaching and no O-Line or receiving threats. Wtf kinda chance did the kid have

Patriots two most valuable assets are both worth pocket lint. At least Mac Jones was worth a 6th round pick. Bill Belichick wishes he was worth a 6th round pick.

Mac was good for a 7 game stretch his rookie year that was it! ever since that wind game in buffalo he has never been the same, look at the stats. the team was not winning because of him, it was the run game and the defense! Mac Jones was a cry baby soft brat (rookie year vs NOLA, pouting on the bench after the game and Bill had to drag him off the field). zappe looked better in Patricas offense and yes struggled at times this year but was still better than Mac. lets not forget he is a poor sport and a dirty player

It means we’re drafting a QB instead of MHJ

Mac has a weak arm and it results in slower throws downfield that are then more prone to interceptions. He does make a good backup but not for a WR1. He does not have locker room charisma.

Mac was an inconsistent, nervous, crybaby. Bill O’Brien as your OC isn’t sexy by any means, but as a Patriots fan, Mac cracked under pressure. At what point does the individual holding the role of quarterback take some of the blame? He isn’t a child, he’s a young man, same age as me. I respect him for his time and football abilities, but I and many people know that Mac was at least half of the problem, if not 3 quarters of it.

Yeah, good luck with that prediction. Trevor isn't a great quarterback, but Jones is a barely serviceable backup. They'll more than likely draft someone if Lawrence fails completely.

He might say I'm done, because football has been toxic for him.

Dude played well with a real offensive coordinator, sub-par receivers, and a decent line blocking for him. Year 2, all of that got ripped away from him. He got Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumn coaching and calling plays on offense, his receivers were last in the league in separation and big plays, and his offensive line became a revolving door. On top of that, he was playing hurt. And after THAT disaster, they got a new offensive coordinator (the third in three years), let his best/favorite receiver walk in free agency because they were too cheap, and proceeded to ignore every one of the offensive issues from the previous years. Now add to that all of the drops and he actually played average compared to the rest of the league. He just had noone around him that could play, as we saw with Zappe. Nothing worked and Mac was the fall guy.

Why is everyone assuming the QB pick for New England is going to be Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye? JJ McCarthy fits the Patriots mold to a tee. Game manager, smart, winner. Sure there are some question marks but if there's a "best fit" for JJ it would be the Pats. Multiple teams have JJ as QB2 or QB3 this draft.

Means that Zappe was always better. Get that man some weapons.

Unless T-Law gets injured, zero. He is there as a safety blanket to cover Trevor, the lack of which cost the Jags their playoff last year when they played their QB hurt and it really showed in his throwing action after the high ankle sprain. Having said that if Mac takes his medicine and actively learns during the year he could get a shot somewhere in 2025/2026 but he has to show the maturity to not be that guy with a chip who lets the chip dictate him going forward.

Amazing. A first round draft pick, pro-bowler his rookie season, and two bad seasons later, he’s traded for a 6th round draft pick. Talk about a precipitous decline😮. QBs aren’t supposed to go to the Pro Bowl their rookie season, then fall off the map the next two. Usually, it’s the other way around. They stink their rookie season as a starter, but with maturity and coaching, they end up doing better in their subsequent seasons, and EVENTUALLY make the Pro Bowl.
