'The beginning of the end' | Breaking down episodes 7 and 8 of the new Patriots' documentary series

Phil Perry, Tom E. Curran and Michael Holley break down episodes seven and eight of the new docuseries on the New England Patriots, "The Dynasty" on Apple TV Plus. The guys look back on the absolute ridiculous spectacle that was Deflategate and discuss how Tom Brady and the team reacted to the the scandal. Then, the guys look at episode eight and the beginning of the end for the Patriots dynasty with the drafting of Jimmy Garoppolo and the fraying of the relationship between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick as the QB closed in on his 40th birthday.

I'm glad you guys focused on the Pioli quote. That was my absolute favorite part of both episodes. Probably the best description of what it's like to play against Tom Brady in history.

This is the reason why we love our region and the Patriots Dynasty. The team and fanbase went through a lot in an almost 20 year journey. There's no perfect relationship but the alignment between Kraft, Belichick, and Brady to sacrifice and do whatever it takes to win is what created all the magical moments we experienced. Coach Mayo has some big shoes to fill

“He’d rather coach Navy and beat Notre Dame, than to coach Notre Dame, and win the national championship.” Exactly how he and Ernie Adams are. I’ve never seen him happier than when he threw three times against Buffalo and won.

You guys nailed it, especially at the end of this clip. I'm enjoying this doc, but it's choosing to focus on the drama over the football. Not enough time was spent on the Seattle superbowl. No mention of the Hightowers tackle, no mention of Belichick not calling the timeout. It's a very well made and entertaining doc, but it seems far from the complete story of this dynasty

They buried Bill in the Hernandez episode for sure. But this is 0% of burying Bill through these two episodes. If you dont want to seem like an asshole who wanted to replace the GOAT QB, then you should have thought about that for the last 5 years you had him. Bill got all the credit for years on who stayed and who went, and then suddenly fans want to act like Bill had no control over whether Tom stayed or not. Complete BS. We can all agree Bill had nothing to do with Hernandez being a psychopath and his future actions. But when Bills lapdog in Slater even acknowledges that the way Tom was treated was getting ridiculous. You know its a problem. Again, fans said "this is why we win SB in NE, no one gets treated like a star". Okay well then when its verified through actual players, don't get mad.

Belichick the GM did not seem to ever consider that his stable of undersized WRs with more quickness than speed was the problem for a QB trying to throw up the field, so he created some charts to show how poorly the Patriots performed trying to throw it up the field and blamed it all on his QB. When Brady left for the Bucs he was in the top 3 in the league and #1 in the playoffs. Passing offense was Belichick's blind spot till the very end and it did not end well.

Really glad to hear you say this. I was at that game, and the deflated footballs have one simple explanation, just like the previous week against the Ravens (who tipped off the Colts), a game I was also at. The explanation? Simple physics, specifically the Ideal Gas Law. Unfortunately the NFL buried the evidence, but using anecdotal evidence (temperatures at game time, and at the time of the interception), and worst case assumptions about ball pressures at game start, it is easily explained. But you never hear about that outside of scientific circles. Good luck to the Colts this year!

There was a young boy who did an experiment for school and it was about footballs and the ideal gas law!! And he proved Brady was innocent! Why can’t Goodell just come out with it. He was wrong. Brady was innocent. It’s really making Goodell look stupid. And it put Brady and his family through hell. Crazy.

You are being underestimated, preparartion will be worse by your opposition, your guys will be more motivated and sharper bcs they know its an uphill battle It is much harder to actually deliver when everybory built up expectations, you did and you might not see your opposition as what it is. A real threat. Probably what happened against the giants both times But bill has shown: if he has a truly bad team, he does go nowhere. Thats what he has shown pre brady and post brady.

This is a tabloid documentary. They summarize through multiple super bowl wins & other positives in order to focus on the things that made negative headlines: Spygate, Deflategate, Aaron Hernandez, Bill's militaristic approach, his abrasive relationship with Tom, Jimmy G controversy, on & on. Bill manages to pull off an 11-win season with Matt freakin' Cassell at QB or he manages to go 3-1 while Brady is suspended -- no, let's paint Tom the victim because his feelings are hurt & he's afraid Bill will do to him what he did to Bledsoe. For every Wes Welker or anyone else speaking on how Bill was rough on his players, you can find others that will tell you that because of Bill's approach, they were always ready & prepared. For every negative "truth," there's also a positive or else The Patriots wouldn't have won for two decades. The filmmakers chose to unbalance the narrative. The Dynasty book, I feel, is much more fair to Bill & to an organization that achieved unprecedented success. This docuseries is mid at best.

If you own a car or rides a bike and keep an eye on your tires air pressure you know that outside air temperature plays a major factor in keeping your pressure set exactly as you want. This was a complete waste of time and the Colts are a bush league team. Adam you should have just manned up and admitted you got your asses kicked repeatedly. I think they made this documentary a little to soon. I would really like to know why Malcom sat in the SB. It’s strange how the BB fan boys never wanted Bill to leave, when Bill was always trying to move on from Tom and all Tom ever did was win, Bill not so much. It’s more the players than the coach.
