What does it mean to be a man?

Фильм және анимация

What makes a man? To answer this question, London-based directorial duo Kaj Jefferies and Rosie Matheson shot this raw and unfiltered Super8 portrait to provide insight into British youth and their experiences of gender identity in the modern world. Revealing what lies behind the facade, their film challenges our socially prescribed preconceptions of traditional maleness.
"The film reveals an incredibly raw and truthful image which is reflected in the very nature of [our decision to shoot] straight onto film," the directors explain. "There are imperfections, there is only one take, and there is no hiding. It creates an honest and very personal portrait of the subject. The film is a tribute and testament to the young men who have revealed themselves to us so faithfully."

"a freckled face bean head" this was so beautiful and mesmerizing i know as women (and people in general) we can often overlook it, but men really are a gift to the world little insights like this into peoples lives and their struggles and strengths and dreams are a good reminder of that please keep on at making these x

I love these intelligent, sensitive men with their deep and sincere testimony. This is so real! Trying to learn my son in his teens that being vulnerable and insecure is a strength and his emotional nature a force. I like the idea of challenging him about gender and social identity. Thanks for this appealing film, the poetics in your editing stroked me. This is a must-see document ;)

I wanted to start with no offence, but no, you should get offended and I don't care whether you do. Your ideas are going to be hurtful to your child in the long run and contribute to the problem of spineless, demasculinized, depressed and emotional man-children that cannot express themselves if it wasn't for the recognition of other people. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKB_u6Vqhbrbmdo.html

As long as it destroys masculinity, which makes women insecure because inferior, it`s good for women ego so it`s accepted. Legit.

There isn't one way to be a man, there shouldn't be one stereotype. But there is a set truth to what a man physically is, what a man should expect of himself. Not every guy has to be a great leader or a great masculine dude, but they have to grow into the maturity, and at least the partial leadership for their families and themselves. Being a man is simply being mature enough to find yourself, and being masculine enough to take care of yourself and those you love. And that is fading these day in men.

Hmmm, I suppose a real man is one who works to create a change in his environment or society. Not everyone is raised in the said conditions and therefore outlooks will be different. However, what we should all be able to agree upon as men is that in order to be better and to make our society better we have to strive to be the best that we can be, giving it our all each day and growing into dependable, respectable folks. Men.

Thanks so much for this film! I also mainly grew up with my mum and two older sisters and can totally relate to this feminine side of a man. Until now I haven´t really thought about it in a sense of masculinity yet but now I can see it more as something positive rather than something weak in terms of being masculine. So thanks so much for this production! Cheers

I absolutely love this video and message. There's light in it. I really hope we all get awakened from the limited content of our minds. All of it is just learnt beliefs that we hold on to because of fear. We are disconnected from the heart and that's why we need mind concepts to give us a sense of belonging which is a perfectly natural human need. Let's empty our minds and start being a human being that actually feels. We belong together. All of us!

I think what this mini doc was about is showing the different perspectives of what men, raised in different situations thinks a man should be. Your environment moulds you and thus will determine what type of man you become.
