I think that may be true ... if is in our Milky Way potentially 3,500 habitable planets ,but we will never know, because logically we cannot see so far, and most importantly, everyone is looking to the past. For example, someone from the Andromeda Galaxy would see dinosaurs running around our planet,or a planet full of volcanoes with an unbreathable atmosphere, etc ....

@@Sallamista exactly it’s so crazy and awesome to think about. The stuff in Star Wars could literally be happening somewhere in a galaxy trillions of light years away. They might be super advanced and can “hyper jump” but would still not be able to see or travel across to other galaxies, that’s just the way I think of it

Our universe could be a black hole. Considering hydrogen and helium were the first elements to form. Mostly everything that is matter is from those elements. And we know stars are made up of it. If a star collapsed, I think it’s possible the elements could reform in the infinite expanded space inside

There is our observable universe about 14billion light years in radius. And outside that we have no idea how huge probably infinite. Anyway as far as exploring our observable universe, I watched a video that said if the universe was like all the ocean on earth we have only really looked at about the amount that would fit in a water tank

If we still don’t understand what’s in the deepest parts of the oceans on earth the I believe all we see are pictures of the universe but dont have a clue what really happens

I will never ever get over how simply massive the universe is.. distances & numbers are almost incomprehensible.. I believe this universe is teeming with life.. it almost feels impossible for it not to be.

My mind is blown every single time I think about how there are others out there wondering about us, too.

Call me crazy but I strongly think that, given how big the universe is and how many billions of galaxies there are, we're not the only planet to have life on it. There's a high chance that somewhere outside of our galaxy there is a galaxy with a planet which inhabits humans too.

@@tamim4235 we, as in me and you? Yep, we may never know. We as in humanity... If we assume that humanity doesn't destroy itself, I am convinced that we will find new ways of traveling, fast enough even to "break" the speed of light. This would allow us to explore the billions of stars in our own galaxy and potentially even other members of the local group. I assess the chance large that we will be able to find intelligent life forms within our local group, the milky way alone contains and estimated 100-400 billion stars, add to that a trillion in the andromeda galaxy. Yeah, while we will definetly not be able to experience this ourselves, I believe our generation will, with the exponentially acceleration pace of technological advancements, lay the very foundation that will make things like this possible. It's not unlikely that we will be able to send a probe to the Proxima Centauri system and get pictures of it within our lifetime! Furthermore, there is still a lot to explore in our own solar system; several of the gas giants' moons have been found to have water underneath their service. There is even a chance that there are simple life forms on those moons! What I'm trying to say is that we should not be disappointed by the limits of the current generation, instead, we should thrive to break those limits.

@@Hugo-er2gj Spot on, I agree. As in life forms: Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if there are other planets elsewhere in the universe which inhabit humans. Again, the sheer size of the universe makes it difficult to assume otherwise. If we look at it mathematically: the probability calculation (Stochastics) favour these theories, even NASA engineers said there must be life out there just because of the unbelievable and unimaginable amount of planets in the universe. Scientist say there are more stars in the OBSERVABLE universe than ALL grains of sand on planet earth. I hope you're right and our technology reaches this far.. But I'm a little pessimistic about it. What's interesting is the Fermi Paradoxon, Fermi basically said the same thing. Let's assume for a second that there have been other INTELLIGENT life forms like us humans WAY WAY before we humans inhabited earth or even before the earth was created. The intelligent life forms, I believe, would have done the same thing as we have: search for life outside of their solar system. But maybe they never reached this far in technology or whatever because they went extinct after a certain time. Honestly we are headed in the same direction, we humans won't be living any longer if we continue like this. One can only hope that out technology advances pretty fast. I can't wait for the James Webb space telescope. I'm dying to know what's out there. But I belive I'll never get to know it..

When I think about this, I imagine that some planet out there is at the same stage we are and calls our planet something completely different. We’ve detected other planets like ours that are bigger so why not lol

It's beyond comprehension the vastness of the universe. Even our "cloest" galaxies are incredibly far away. I just wish we were capable of truly exploring it!

It would take something like 5 million years just to travel to the next nearest star, Alpha Centuri, flying at the typical speed of a commercial aircraft, approx 500 mph.

I think about this all the time too. It's just my personal opinion but for me, I'm almost 100% sure that there has to be other species, other life forms out there. I have a hard time believing that there's no life outside of our own planet.

@@kwando472 Lol, comparatively speaking it is. I assume your talking about sub-atomic and atomic, molecular and wave level, then it can be argued that at any point in space there is something. However lets talk about tangible substance, see the reference attached: so all of the matter in the universe would fit into about 1 billion cubic light years, or a cube that's approximately 1,000 light years on each side. That means that only about 0.0000000000000000000042 percent of the universe contains any matter. The universe is a pretty empty place! I got this from a particular website but similar references can be found all over the web.similarily for your argument: Space is not empty. A point in outer space is filled with gas, dust, a wind of charged particles from the stars, light from stars, cosmic rays, radiation left over from the Big Bang, gravity, electric and magnetic fields, and neutrinos from nuclear reactions.

It's funny how people image that far, this universe thing is so funny to watch

Since I was in my elementary years, I am always fascinated and interested in learning about astronomy. Being able scientist/austronaut is my biggest goal but it was far from reality though it doesn't stop me from learning and discovering new things and ideas related to astronomy. Loved the video. Until the mid 17's the Milky Way was considered to be the universe. Then Andromeda was discovered and the universe was understood to be so much more. Then surprise! New technology discovered the universe housed countless galaxies and stars. And we get to enjoy these discoveries. I never get tired of watching KZreads about the universe and it's wonders.

the CGI and graphics in this video is amazing

It would seem the Milky way may well have been underestimated, it may well be as large as 300 000light years across due to some new studies, making it the largest galaxy in our local group. Hard to get a real accurate estimate on the Milky way however due to us being inside it.

We have to listen seriously to lots of stars over time and on multiple radio frequencies, and look for laser light which can transmit more data. Massive payoff versus small effort.

There certainly are many billions of planets and it's very very likely that many of them to have life, even intelligent life. But distances are so absurd that we will only be able to guess about it, probably forever.

It seems counterintuitive that galaxies within our local group are merging even as the universe is expanding on a cosmic scale. This juxtaposition can give the impression of a contracting universe, but it's actually a testament to the complex interplay of gravitational forces on different scales. It’s a reminder of how local dynamics can differ dramatically from the overall expansion of space.

Even if at this moment we're the only technological civilization in our galaxy (which I doubt), there are so many galaxies as to make it nearly certain there's another one elsewhere. Unfortunately, other galaxies are so far away we'd never know it. Fortunately, we're in a major galaxy so there's a good chance we could receive a message from another civilization.

No, just able to look at it from more than one angle. We don't know is the thing. Until we do it is silly to fantasize about this. People used to think different humans lived in the sea. Then they thought they lived on the sun and all the planets. We have a very old tradition of projecting ourselves onto the unknown. Earlier we thought large people lived on mountains and caused everyting from weather to bad luck. We called them gods. Some of us just don't do that and instead just wait to see what we actually find without expecting anything in particular. But we need one more sample. Just life somewhere. Anywhere. We can't predict anything at all until we do. A sample size of one is not a sample size. The only thing we learn from that is that this one thing is possible. But anything is possible. #1 question to me is if life can develop on tidally locked planets, and we don't know yet. Because if it can then most life in the Universe will be there. 90% of stars are red dwarfs = 90% of life lives in orbit around red dwarfs = 90% of life lives on tidally locked worlds. They are very different than earth. They can't help but be. Put the earth in orbit around a red dwarf, making it tidally locked, and it will become radically different rather quickly too. Extreme temps at the focus + extreme weather along the terminator + permanent darkness and cold on the dark side = most life in the Universe is aquatic and bioluminescent/blind. Because it'll probabkly mostly have to live on the dark side of tidally locked planets. That's an example of a prediction we actually can make. At any rate if we can find life on just one such planet. Yellow dwarfs are rare = earth-analogs are rare. We already know that for a statistical fact. Projecting earth life as the norm is therefore already nonsense. it is not. Well, unless life is impossible around red dwarfs. Then it might be. It'll still be rare though.

@@politicallycorrectredskin796 It's not silly to "fantasize" about this. You just use logic. The universe is very homogenous and infinitely large, the laws of nature are the same everywhere. So why would be more probable that we are this special unique thing instead of just another phenomen that is repeated throughout? We probably will never find this second sample, because distances are ridiculous, and the maximum speed is set, so even if the universe is popping with life, we'll be most probably isolated from it forever. But realistically, it's out there, and it was in the past, and it will be in the future. We're not alone. And we do not need red dwarves for this. 10% of infinitely large is still infinitely large.

If nobody has ever been outside of our galaxy to observe it, how do we know what it looks like and how do we know where we are in this galaxy?

Insufficient data. If we find an oxygen atmosphere around an exo-planet then that would be life. If we find pollution in the same atmosphere, then that would be intelligent life, like Romans smelting lead and silver. But what we really want is to receive a message from a technological civilization. That would be transforming and might help us survive.

I don't know if this is a common thing or something you read in the news that tells you to look out for in the sky at night at certain times. I was at a music festival in rural Tennessee and a whole arm of the milky way was up there. It was amazing, I just laid there all night watching it. It was unbelievably amazing.

I noticed they don't put the Milky Way or equivalent dusty plane of the galaxy in star fields like Star Wars or Star Trek. Babylon 5 liked to use nebulae in the background of some of its shots.

One thing to note is that we don't actually know the real shape of the milky way. It's a spiral galaxy, but it's hard to tell what type when you're part of it.

We are so insignificant in the grand scheme of the Universe. Even if humanity blew itself up tomorrow, the Universe wouldn't even give a bleep.

An alien civilization might see the gamma ray flashes from our nuclear war, or its long-term pollution, and be sad we didn't live long enough to join galactic civilization and tell them how life evolved on our planet.

I think the universe is awesome yet unlimited in its distense

Fascinating ❤ universe is infinite and have so many secrets beyond our imagination

What will be spectacular about the "collision" of Andromeda and the Milky Way? They are both nearly empty space that will pass through each other with not too much effect.

Our galaxy will probably have its spiral arms broken up and turned into a trail of stars and gas like the dwarf galaxies that collide with the Milky Way.

It seems we and our scientists have been fixated with Andromeda ignoring our less distant friends.

Twice as little... Wouldn't that be 1/2 the size in normal terms?

I know this is local galaxies but ic1010 Is a monster. I believe that's the largest galaxy know to us as of now
