Ummmmm.... Just my 3¢.... As someone who is only looking in from the outside, take that as you will.... BUT... As generally Nothing produced and sold is ever perfect, so a company or brand should always want to continue to improve on what they are making and selling!!! That being said I think a way to be able to do that in the best way is to have people review a product as they choose (good bad etc) and listen to what they say, as opposed to finding people that will just give lip service talking about just how great or awesome something is, to present it in the best light possible even though it might not be a good product!! At the end of the day im saying that Army Painter is clearly making the better choices and listing to what people have to say (good and bad). And going back and working with those points , to make a better product overall!! And it clearly shows that you do care what people say !!... Because a company shows they dont really care and never try to make a better product, the customers will stop coming to buy the products and when they are gone the company is gone!! Army Painter you are doing good work and making smart choices for yourself as a company and for your miniature painting/gaming customers!! Keep on keeping on!!!!

Adding a sponge mat and a parchment paper in this set would make it complete as the clear plastic tub could make up the container. But using a we palette is not a beginner technique, and more experienced painters could easily amend this set DIY style.

14:08 Someone may already have pointed this out, but that plastic clam shell is perfect for making a wet palette out of, just stick some paper towel or an old rag in the *deep side, saturate it with water and some baking paper on top. Then shove it back into the box once you are done painting to keep it out of sunlight.

Pairing this set with the Army Painter tool set and wet pallete would be incredible for beginners and veterans. If The Army Painter decide to sell a bundle set like this for the hobby for a nice even $100, I think it would be a huge success. However, I had a similar issue with Goobes video on this set and the paint line in general. I just feel if youre going to sell brush on primer it should come in a larger bottle like their air primers. Its why I have stuck with the Vallejo primers for over a decade because you can buy them in large bottles that are still the largest primer bottles you can get for the hobby on the market for value. I know Pro Acryl and AK have larger primer bottles now, I just hope the Army painter will do the same with their brush on primer.

Dana, I obviously love you and yadda-yadda, but the way you say _Squuarrre Spaaaceeee_ just keeps getting spookier and spookier and my fragile heart can't handle it anymore! I wish I could think of a decent idea for a website to make with Square Space, because I'm afraid if I don't cave in and sign-up, Square Ghosts will come and turn me into a human cube. :p (I'm always happy to see a new Dana Howl video) edit: Seeing a primer that's only slightly lighter in tone than the standard grey plastic of GW miniatures did throw me, I must admit. I'm so used to white spraying assembled figures, I wouldn't feel like my minis were ready to be painted yet with such a light touch. But then again your models look way better than mine, so maybe I need a rethink of my ol' reliable priming methods ;p

Nice and instructive video (as expected!). I find the one thing that is not beginner-friendly in this small starters is... the limited paint range that necessitates mixing. Mixing paints is not beginner friendly, especially when you need to re-mix more of the stuff to correct mistakes. But I don't know what the solution would be, making it a larger starter box would increase its price...

Using the plastic insert is almost a no brainer. Maybe you wouldn't want to spoil your brand new paintset by dirtying it like this , specially if you have to pack it all away again at the end of your session , or maybe I'm a bit precious about things like this sometimes. But this actually seems like a really good solution if you don't have a dedicated mixing pallet or subsitute surface like an old plate for mixing paints. The set looks pretty good as far as choice of colours and paints goes too.

The only particularly good 'starter set' (IMO) i've come across was the 'Vallejo Game Colour Wargamer Starter Set' 16 paints for £34 in UK. no primer, wash or brush included - but a good variety of basic colours and metallics. I've not tried any army painter paints for general use for a while but wasn't a big fan of most I tried for the reasons you mention. Certainly not terrible but not especially good. I did get the 'Army Painter Skin Tone Set ' last year which was excellent for my intended purpose - painting small faces/skin areas only - and not bad value. £35-£40 in UK I think. Id advise any starter buys a primer spray can to get going anyhow - as it deals with one fairly boring task straight away. Spray-priming minis is quite fun and satisfying in itself !!
