    Same as me. I've taken trips to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand with the family to satisfy my own visa requirements. We also took a trip to Europe a few years ago with the family - I wasn't too keen but my wife was eager to see Paris, Bruges and Amsterdam. They were all good holidays but I was glad to come home.

    I am a Brit and I live in the Philippines with my family, out in the boondocks, in Rizal Province. I've been here for 4 years. There's no foreigners in my locale so I pretty much stick out. I have a great life. I interact well with my neighbours, the storekeepers at the sari-sari store, the trike drivers and just people in general. I have the occasional beer with complete strangers, who then stop being strangers.

    @@manuelpepito Actually, the Philippines chose me! I met my Filipina wife in HK and she 'persuaded' me to take early retirement in the Philippines. She did this by putting down a deposit on a house while on a trip home (to introduce the family to our baby son) so ultimately I had no choice. No regrets, though.

    I went to the Philippines in 2018, second time in 2019 and last year, 2022. I love this country, and it doesn't matter to me if the country is rich looking like USA. The people made the difference to me. People here in USA are not so friendly, they are unhappy, rude, angry and not nice towards me. I'm ready to retire someday with my wife that I married from the Philippines, back to her country for sure, tired of the crappy US! The Philippines is awesome, my piece of Heaven on Earth :)

    i'm not sure where the hawaiian guy is coming from when he said about a little issue about hospitals in the Philippines. Hospital is all over the place and you have choices depending on your budget. The Philippines has been training so many nurses exporting around the world.

  • @Livingabroadalex

    @Livingabroadalex

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes but just because you have smart, capable, trained people. It doesn't mean you have the facilities or incentive to keep those nurses and doctors. I can't speak from personal experience but I've interviewed multiple people who've said the same thing and practically all other youtubers who are older and live in the Philippines have experienced similar situations. This is not saying there aren't any, in major cities. This is fir overall experience, since many people chose to live in the province etc.

    @@Livingabroadalex i'm not saying that's the case in general but since i'm talking about the Philippines i'm referring to the Philippines and that's the case in the Philippines indeed. As i've mentioned, depending on your budget, you might end up to a hospital with not much facilities or in first class hospitals like St. Lukes or Makati Med. which have everything you need.

    "Nicest" is comparative. It doesn't have to be absolute, only relative. In other words, compared to the rest of the world, Filipinos are nicer. Let's say we have 2 small balls. 1 has a diameter of 1 cm. The other has 2 cm. Absolutely, both balls are small but it's still correct to say that the 2nd ball is bigger than the 1st or the 2nd ball is the biggest between the 2.

I also visited other cities for academic contest purposes (Baguio City, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Leyte). Still, I can say majority are nice people.

    As a sort of advise for those foreigners who wants to stay in the Philippines, do not buy or stay in a condo in or apartment in a busy city as your permanent home. Buy a land in the province and build your home. There, you can save money, you can make a small farm and can enjoy the fresh air, fresh food and you are away from the hassle of the traffic from highly urbanized cities.

    @@Livingabroadalex Foreigners/aliens cannot legally own real properties here in the Philippines, so this advice might be misleading. However, foreigners can legally own residences, that is, condominiums that allow foreign ownership. Aliens in the province who live and "own" land don't legally own it, they use the name of their trusted Filipino friends and/or 'adopted' family when they buy land--this is a practice more common than one would think. It requires a great deal of trust obviously, but seeing it's happening (I personally know two who trust millions worth of properties to their Filipino 'adopted' family) is still amazing to me.

And if people from neighboring provinces go to Metro Manila and bring a car, the traffic will be severe.
