Dilated eyes for me have always been "hunting" eyes. We deliberately stimulate the hunting instinct in our cats to keep their minds sharp and my current cat will actually lose all color in his eyes when this happens. The Pinprick pupils usually only show for us when he is in the sun and watching outside. Pupils though are only half the story when it comes to cats. You have to look at the whole body for the full meaning of what is going on. Ears, eyes, tail, posture all play a part in what is going on in your cat's mind.

What does it mean when my cats sit in front of my face while im sleeping and stares at me? I been getting woken up at night by the feeling of my cat staring at me in the dark. And then its a black cat. I raised him as a inside cat from 2 weeks old and he has never been around other cats.

Protecting you definitely it means he/she thinks that you're the part of it's territory

It’s funny because I knew this about the squinted eyes so whenever I go near him I say “Show me those loving eyes” and he literally squints at me lol every time I say that.

I've always had cats and used the slow blinking, its related to what staring means to them, they're letting their guard down when they close their eyes, instead of watching your every move if they are scared. So when I've worked in animal sanctuaries its a very useful technique to use with fearful cats to show you arent a threat and gain their trust, they mainly communicate with their eyes so you're speaking their language c: Plus when my cats initiate it i do feel loved, its their happy face

I give my cats a slow wink {winking in a slow fashion}, they will repeat my wink. so when I wink at them, they wink back at me. lol

My cat literally has his eyes squinted the whole day. At afternoon he sleeps and then hunts me and my brother at night then sleeps with us in our blanket

my cats eyes were always dilated. i don't remember a single time when they weren't dilated.. either that or his eye's where half closed. he's dead now though, so i can't test his trust with me. though, he has slept with me multiple multiple times, so i just hope that he liked/trusted me.

No wonder whenever I look into my kittens eyes she looks away

Love the video, thank you. my cats trust me then according to their eyes. The only time their pupils are "pinned" is when they are looking outside or when my husband is around. lol Do you happen to know what it means when your cat goes to lay down with you and they put their butt in your face? Mine do that all the time. I have to keep repositioning them. lol Again thanks for the video. your cat is beautiful.

When i play with my cat getting her to swat my finger she lays down on her stomach and gets really focused and her eyes get really dilated, and when she sits on my lap and rubs against me her eyes are sometimes constricted, so their eyes are definitely a case by case basis

How do you get your kitten to calm down? Her eyes get huge and she starts playing or running around. Is this normal? Also I'm having a bit of trouble teaching her not to bite, any suggestions? I tell her no and pull my hands away but it doesn't seem to be working..

They're called Kitty kisses and means they love and trust you ^_^ including walking off, that's normal cat behaviour - like a drive by kiss haha!

Oh no! We're sorry to hear this but please don;t resort to putting her down . That's never the answer an so unfair. It might be hard, but it is so important that you and your partner remain calm when around your kitty. If you guys are stressed/anxious/nervous/aggressive around her, she's going to pick up on that and get stressed out too. Remain calm around her, try making your partner the person who feeds her, gives her treats and plays with her. This will make your cat associated your parter with all the good things and learn to trust them. If this doesn't work, talk to your vet for help. And if you feel she cannot stay with you anymore, please don't put her down - re-home her, take her to a shelter.
