What are the three new criminal laws? | Explained

Ойын-сауық

From July 1st, India will replace its colonial-era criminal laws with a set of three new penal laws. The Indian Penal Code of 1860 will be substituted by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita or the BNS, the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1973 will give way to the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita or the BNSS, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 will be replaced by the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam or the BSB.
These laws were first introduced by the Centre on August 11 last year following which they were referred to a 31-member Parliamentary Standing Committee headed by BJP MP Brij Lal for review. The revised Bills were later introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 12th and received Presidential assent on December 25th.
However, the laws have stirred controversy with legal experts and jurists questioning the lack of transparency in the functioning of the 5-member expert committee chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, former Vice Chancellor of National Law University, Delhi, tasked with the responsibility of drafting these laws. Many have also flagged how the new laws expand police powers at the expense of civil liberties.
In this video, we will delve into the key provisions of the three new laws and the concerns surrounding them.

@@akashmurmuu21 The laws are already very strict. What actually matters is the implementation of said laws and the justice-delivery mechanism to expedite trials. My issue is that in a democratic nation, laws have to be made which cater to al citizens. However, unfortunately, in India some laws for some crimes only consider women to be victims and not men, though such crimes can equally be committed and do get committed by women. This strikes at the very core of Article 14- Right to Equality.

The archaic laws such as the Indian Penal Code 1860, Evidence Act 1872, Criminal Procedure Code 1898-1973, were discussed for change in the past and how long shall we keep on debating without action?. Now it has come into force let us face the new challenges and see what is good and bad in spite of criticizing it.

Bro, when you don't take any action, you stay idle, you are bad, instead very bad for loads and loads of people. But, but when you move, you take certain necessary actions, you are the worst ones. That's the problem with Bharat and I.N.D.I.Alliance consorts. Anyways, it is well defined, "mera Bharat mahaan hain".

" No body is above the Law" Laws should not be misused to revenge Political Opponents and Poor People! Law should be made applicable to Top leaders who violate the Indian Constitutional Norms.

Our Republic is supposed to accept all people without any discrimination. But what's happening right now is no different than a junta state or an Islamic Republic or a fascist or monarch state.
