What are the samba schools in Brazil?
Brazil's carnival would never have become as big of an event as it is today if it wasn’t for the creation of samba schools. These associations work all-year round preparing for the hotly disputed Carnival parade competition. But how did the samba schools come to be? And what do the Carnival parades mean? Find out here!

Thank you!
And also, it’s important to note the key people for scoring: the “carnavalesco”, who leads the artistic design of the parade, from floats to costumes, the “puxador”, who leads the singing of the samba song composed to represent the theme and the drums master: he/she makes sure all the percussionists are synchronized and playing the way the school’s music requires, and also leads some flourishes like paradinhas (when some of the drums stop or radically change rhythm for a few seconds), or the apagão (when the drums stop playing to emphasize the school’s singing of their samba, then return bombastically).

Wow, thanks for the additional info! :)
Excellent take, very rare to see foreigners get a lot right. Only thing to note is that Grupo Especial schools have multiple Mestre-Sala and Porta-Bandeira couples, though as far as I recall only one of them is judged.

Hahahaha you’d be surprised how many times we get comments like these 😂 Mark is from the east coast of Scotland, while Euan is from the west coast. Apparently there's a big difference!
