Mark it’s for beginners for the most part is what he’s covering and it could cost extra vet bills that aren’t needed and could cause worry especially if they spent a lot of money for a certain morph and they aren’t the easiest to accommodate typically humidity wise because they typically can’t deal with fluctuating humidity as well as the ones mentioned

My first snake was a garter snake when I was a kid. My second snake was a GORGEOUS Albino Burmese Python, his name was Sire. He was a big cuddle bug, and loved car rides lol. I'd take him everywhere I could. I ended up in a bad relationship, and when I left my ex I sadly had no where for my poor Sire. I had him for 5 years. I sold him to a good home with a friend, so I know he'd be taken care of. Tomorrow, I'm getting my first Boa. Ordered her off line yesterday, she's is just a baby. I know I'm gonna get bit, just part of owning a snake. I know the basic husbandry for Boa's, but I want to learn as much as I can so she thrives like she deserves ❤🐍 thanks for the info!!

The one and only snake I ever seen in real life was an albino Burmese Python. This was while visiting Singapore on vacation. For a charge of around $10singapore the snakes keeper would drape the python around a persons neck. I gently held it in my hands; one just in behind its head and the other near the snakes tail. As a tourist attraction, it was probably used to being handled many times. I was struck by how calm and relaxed it was, how warm and smooth were the scales on its beautiful body. I would never see a live snake again; there is but only one reptile species; the Turatara lizard existing in and native to my home of Aotearoa-New Zealand. I'm not sad about that because it keeps us safe from animals that can do us arm, with the exception of each other.

My son had an albino corn snake. I ended up caring for it. I loved it!

Cornsnake are such underrated snakes. They make awesome pets.

The best part that he stressed is "hard to screw up", because responsibility of having a pet is much greater than the personal gains of having one.

I viewed corns the same way until i got one given to me. now I have much more respect for them.

Same for me, I went for a Plains (Western) Hognose for my first. Didn't want a corn as had no interest in them. 4 months later got corn and absolutely love her

I actually just purchased my first snake a few days ago! A six month old Dumeril's boa! I take him home in a few days, so I've been crazy looking up snake videos to watch to make certain I get it right, and that's how I stumbled on your channel. Honestly I was leaning originally to get a Ball Python, but I am glad I didn't now. After watching this I'm even more excited to take care of my boa and can't wait to watch it grow!

Great vid Jason. I really enjoyed your two cents about a variety of snake species and their pros and cons with basic care. Nice examples btw.

My first snake was a corn snake, and a few weeks after I got her I got an 18 year old Boa that is 8'5". Looking into getting an Ivory Burmese Python very soon. Great video! 🤘🏻

That hypo burm is absolutely gorgeous! And of course I love the Kenyan Sand Boa getting an honerable mention, as even though they do love to burrow and hide under the substrate, they are a great size, when fully grown, for someone who wants an animal that stays small

Kenyans are great! Mine is about 8 now and eats frozen thawed mice right off of a plate without even constricting them. She's very docile as well

I love corn snakes, but they are so underrated. I think they are hands down the best beginner snake, even for children, they have such wonderful personalities, and they come in so many different morphs; palmetto corns in particular are absolutely stunning

They also don’t live too long. People never talk about the fact that Ball Pythons live for DECADES. I’m about to turn 30 and I still have the Ball Python I got when I was 14 They are a huge commitment

Always happy to see another video :) I've been keeping different snakes for quite a few years too now and you're one of only a few people on the internet i trust when it comes to husbandry and care , you're so much more educating than most of them and you often keep things simple and easy to understand where others overcomplicate for no reason. Your followers appreciate that and i think you cant do any boring videos , so just keep them coming and a lot of people will be able to learn stuff to replicate it for their own snakes at home. Watching your videos helped me decide to get a baby boa last month! It's definitely not the first snake I've ever had (I've had all the beginners in the past: corns, kings, ball pythons, rat snakes) but I was admittedly looking for something bigger this time. I don't have my others anymore for personal reasons however now I'm in a better situation and can have a snake without another's input. I want to get into the big boys so I went with an anery het albino male BI to start off. I'd love a burm and retic eventually! Thanks for being so blunt, truthful, and open in your videos. It's very appreciated!

Excellent video Jason and I agree with you on your choices. That's why I have corn snakes and a Boa. I also have several ball pythons but personally I would not recommend them to someone who has never had a snake before, because my first snake was a ball python and it totally stressed me out when it decided to go off food. I find there more picky about the temps as well.

I have own several snakes for several years. Have yet to get a Burm. Not bc I didnt want to but bc I didnt have the room until now. Now that I have my own room it is time. Love that you put them in the first 5 best pet snakes!!!!

You always have great content. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm not an expert by any means, but I feel you're spot on here. Nice job, as always ❤ Damn that burm! 😍🔥

Good video, and great choices for snakes to highlight! And I agree with your opinion of Boas. If it's OK to add one - I unexpectedly got a Stimson's Python - for those who aren't familiar, one of the Antaresia species that are the smallest pythons in the world - and just fell in love with him. He's got all of the personality and handleability (if that's a word) of his larger cousins, has a great appetite and husbandry isn't too demanding. The Children's/Spotted/Strimson's Pythons would be a wonderful snake for someone who'd like a real python that's easy to care for, but who maybe prefers a smaller snake.

I had a corn snake 1st...then a bci, then a milk snake, then another bci with a coastal carpet python, then 2 retics...next is a Burmese

Awesome video! The burm was certainly a curve ball in my opinion, I didn't expect that. That said, in general they're not aggressive by nature. I think it's just the size that put me off for so long but I'm definitely gonna look more into them though.

@@JasonsExoticReptiles I suppose it's like anything, if you do your research, are fully aware of what you're getting yourself into, feel you have the ability, I see no issue with whatever snake you get as a first snake, not including venomous. I was literally looking at burms on Morph Market when this reply came through. I do like them and can definitely see myself having one (or two) in the collection.

Two totally different snakes. I usually tell people that if they have doubts about burm size that they should shy away until they are 100% confident they can manage anything.

While a lot of people buy male burms for the reason you describe, I've been told by keepers that the males are more likely to be aggressive than females. People get freaked out by the idea of eventually having a 20ft female, but you can manage their size simply by the amount of food you give them. A girl that's fed less, and smaller as a result, can still be completely healthy. Just a thought for if you ever decide to make the move and get one.

@@Yahsan_yhwh They have been bred in captivity for decades now and thrive. They are not for everyone but actually can be pretty good pets, to the extent that a large constrictor snake can be a good pet. They're fairly placid well-behaved snakes for the most part. I've had two. I would even go as far as saying they are a better choice than a common Boa if they didn't get so large. They tend to be easier to read and a bit more predictable in my (and others') experience.

So pleased to see a burm on the list! I have 2 hypo burms and they are gorgeous. P.s I approve of the vest.

I gotta salute you for putting Boa Imperator up there above ball pythons for first snakes. I've been saying the same thing for a while, people are afraid to go with a boa because they're a little bit bigger so they start out with one of the more finicky snakes. Can't go wrong with a North American colubrid constrictor (Lampropeltis, Pituophis, Pantherophis) or a boa imperator as a first snake. They share that hardy adaptability that lets them thrive despite beginner mistakes.

Hey Jason, great video. I was actually looking into getting another burm and I have a question about the blizzard morph. Do they tend to yellow out as they age or stay white for the most part?

Planning on getting a BCI as my first and only snake, since before I watched this video. You confirmed my thoughts and gave some great info. Thanks for that! Do you have any going on sale in the next month or so?

All I have available at the moment is what's on the website, but come sometime between February through June I should have all kinds of baby popping out. I typically post them on my Facebook and Instagram when they come out then once they are feeding and ready to go I will post them on the website with individual pictures and prices

I think if you’re experienced enough to deal with their occasional picky eating that western hognose are great pet snakes too! I have 4 soon to be more and I absolutely love their personalities.. my female is quite a character, very friendly and honestly never had a snake make me laugh like she does lol. If you want a big snake in a little body I think they’re so much fun!

There’s a garter snake living in my yard and when I found it I started to wonder if it had been around people before because when I picked it up it just sat with me and never even bothered to try to take off!!🤨🐍

i'm so jealous of the burm thing.... but then, knowing what it's like to wrestle the boa i got from you, maybe i don't need 10ft worth of snake anytime soon. as it is, the 4yo boa i got from you is the same size as the 8yo you showed. but i certainly agree about boas being a great first snake. i pulled my hair out waiting for my first snake (ball python) to eat, sometimes for as long as 9 months. i think that took a couple years off my life, for as much as i love her.

Fortunately, many countries here in the Southern Pacific do not have any snakes. The most notable exception is of course, Australia where six out of the Worlds most dangerous snakes call home.

My 2nd snake was a Boa Imperator, hands down one of my favorite snakes. Loves to come out of it's cage almost everyday, and is the snake I can trust to eat a rat when my ball python is being stubborn.

Yes deffenetly boa as pet is, amazing bc they are soooo chill but ofc if size suits u but some gets lager bc Suriname constrictor constrictor gets a bit bigger as my squeezy is 5yo.. Burms are most calm snake ever but gets bigger and heavier. Well my boa is the calmest snake but burms are just sooo relaxed... They dont squeeze at all. Amazing pet.. Good advice man.

Think the best ones we keep are probably boas and our burm tbh and our fwc is honestly so calm. People told me when I first got into the Fwc's that there extremely hard to keep and I've had the complete oposite experience. Obviously there all different but I'm glad I chose to get hands on experience instead of listening to the bs some people were telling me.

Burmese was my snake. But when I was younger, my dad had an Indian Rock. So I kinda knew what I was doing and getting myself into. And I will agree, if you have the means, a Burmese is a great pet.

When I was 17 I had a 12 ft albino berm python. I had no business having her back then cause I didn’t take care of her the way I should have. I didn’t appreciate what a beautiful creation she was. She got burnt on a heat lamp and got a terrible infection and died. I wish I could go back and do it differently

I have a boa and I want a burm next. They are restricted in my state so i have to get a license for them. Im working on it though.

Can you give me some tips on taking care of a boa constractor. Like where to get the best food, how much to feed them, and what kind of shelter should it have.

It's so good to know that A professional breeder is recommending BOAs for beginners because I've always wanted one and I've never had a snake in my life. BOAs are just my favorites but people say that they get ginormous and could kill you (which I think that is a misconception), however it's good to know that it's just the exceptions that get around 8+ft long. 9:53 *tuck* That's cute, I'm laughing so much

I got a Columbian red-tail for my first snake and she's absolutely wonderful and they are also fairly easy to take care of

I very much would like a boa. They kind of have the advantage of starting out as a smaller snake as a baby or juvenille but then as you get more experience, you get more snake to work with. I like that they are more active and curious than ball pythons for the most part. I've handled those and they are cool, but they just sort of sit there a lot of the time once they settle down. If I wanted an animal to just sit in my lap, I'd get a cat.

I’d never get a Burmese python unless I had a lot of room and someone to help me handle it. I get nervous around snakes that are much longer than me. So 5 5.5 feet is my max. I’d like to get a corn snake someday and maybe a boa eventually.

The only snakes I have ever been bit by, so far are king snakes. Lol. It doesn't hurt but getting them to let go is another story. I was literally walking around the house with a snake attached to my hand. King snakes are still one of my favorites.

Black milks are a goal of mine. I almost never see them available!

When I joined the Navy I got rid of a sweetheart red tail, and a Savannah Monitor who was a monster. Would sit on my lap for full football games.

If you want a smaller but still big boa get a Central America boa constrictor they are amazing and only get 5 to 6 feet!!

The best pet snake is the one that a person invest a lot of quality time with handling the snake and working with each snake so the snakes become social animals and trust people :) Likewise a person gives their snake a great quality of life living in a captive environment !! I couldn't choose a favorite best snake for a pet as I've raised snakes for 59 years but my preference has always been raising big constrictors :o) Awesome video and great information !!

First thing your snakes look in fantastic condition you can even tell in camera. I think garters win for a few reasons . That are active during the day ,very inquisitive,eat all kinds of things and the big one is you can keep them together . The only down side is unless you get one from outside wild cought they are somewhat hard to find . I am going to try to breed them in the next couple years there aren't nearly enough breeders.

Diddo on getting bit by milksnakes/kingsnakes. I had a king as a kid, and the only time he bit me, I literally didn't feel it. I just looked down and saw that my finger was in his mouth with his back teeth inside it. Drew a little blood, but was absolutely nothing.

What temps can a corn snake get down to? Not my snake he has a heat matt but I dont think its warm enough for him I'd rather see a heat lamp in with him his tank is only small so would only put an 100 watt heat bulb with thermostat

i kinda followed what you said with my corn snakes... Didnt brumate them, Just lowered their temperature a few degrees and put them together... They have been together in the same viv for 2 years now, Still nothing in terms of pregnancy, Eggs etc haha. I think they are just viv-pals at this point.. each one gets super stressed when the other is not there.. :) But in terms of a good snake... Personally ive had fantastic experience with my Carpet pythons... I know there is mixed debates and opinions.. But honestly.. I have a 7-8ft jungle-jag, and he is literally like a puppy dog haha.. Can put your head in the viv, can do whatever you want... he doesnt even flinch..... He turns his head to see whats going on.. realises its me, then just goes back to sleep hahaha Where as ive got a common BCI boa, and she is a handful... Always lunging for my face, and she gets handled regularly.. Doesnt seam to tame down at all.. She chomps my arm pretty much every time i hold her..

How do u feel about Brazilian rainbow boas? I love the colour and they seem friendly however given the location they r from i assume i need a very warm regulated space for 1.

They are great. Just higher humidity.

Bredls pythons are great...super temperament and shed well and are very temp tolerant due to living in hot/cold extremes..only beginner issue is size as girls reach 9ft and boys about 8..lovely snakes though 😁
