Basic Boa Care!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This video covers the basics of boa constrictor care. We walk through the requirements for heating, humidity, and feeding. I'll be making a more detailed video specific to breeding, but this is necessary as a baseline to successfully keep and raise boa constrictors in captivity.
I keep all boa species and most python species the exact same way so use this as the baseline for when we dive into the breeding video that ill be making soon!

I was having a hard time find informative videos on boas when I started researching them. Plenty of ball python videos, but hardly any boa videos. I was super glad when I found your channel and the treasure trove of information that it has. I now have a healthy, beautiful, and growing boa imperator that I love! Thank you! Keep up the amazing content!

If only my mom would have been supportive in the slightest.. I would of had 20 years of experience by now. She wouldn't let me keep any reptiles.. Amphibians.. Arachnids..just nothing she considered disgusting or dangerous. I always cried growing up not being able to work with these beautiful animals. She knew I studied them and knew everything there was to know in terms of husbandry and natural habitats.. But refused the idea of any animal that wasn't a normal cat or dog. The other thing was if I were to be found keeping any reptile or something.. She said she would kill it no questions asked. I'm 26 now and live in my own house..and can now finally work with the animals and my dreams of becoming a herpetologist. My mom also now after all those years respects and supports me... And apologizes for the past. So I'm really happy that I can move forward. Your videos are really cool and give very good advice to both new keepers and experienced keeper alike. Great job man.

  • @JasonsExoticReptiles

Thank you! I'd say the biggest difference is just the overall snake itself it's going to be more active and overall more hardy and less subject to mettle condition changes that can cause problem. I do not consider ball pythons beginner species for a lot of reasons. I think the main reason they caught on is because of their size, but other than that they are not great beginner snakes. They can be very frustrating at times specifically with eating

Think about all the old-timers in this business who never had access to such gauges yet had great success in breeding and keeping many different kinds of reptiles. Not saying those gauges don’t have their place. But if that’s all you go by, chances are you’ll run into trouble before too long in the husbandry department.

Another great video Jason and I agree ypur main staple should be some kind of rodent. Now in saying that I do feed my large female ball pythons chicken legs occasionally durring bréeding season I dont know if its because of the bigger bone but to me I find because of the extra calcium my eggs are over all better and it seems to boost the number of eggs. But again its only durring breeding season I do this

Be careful with that man. Store bought chicken pieces can mess your snake up hard. If you really want the extra calcium then feed a rodent dusted in calcium, but pre killed processed chicken can be some bad stuff especially around breeding season.

OK interesting story... I live in Cambodia and work as an English teacher. We found a baby burmese python in the school I work. ( behind the school is marshy. ) The locals wanted to eat it and I was like I love snakes I had a ball python and a red tailed boa back in the states. I took it home. He/ she / it is eating OK and is going into shed. My concern is the heating. Do they need a basking area? And I don't want to make the hot side too hot. It is like 90° and it feels like 99° AND it is night time. The humidity is naturally at 70%. Because this is there native land I would eventually want to do a zoo outdoor enclosure for it. So what are your thoughts on heating this juvenile burmese python? By the way Great videos. I am enjoying them. From Cambodia.

  • @JasonsExoticReptiles

    4 жыл бұрын

First thing I would say is that get your temperature is never ething where they need to be like I said in the video. Secondly if you only had it for 12 days you should have only fed at once. Considering they eat every 7 to 14 days assuming that it's a baby snake, that would have only allowed for one feeding. The snake just got shipped in so I would give it a chance to chill out for a week or two with no handling and no interactions. Once that time has passed then try to feed what you're trying to feed.

@@JasonsExoticReptiles for real tho you seem like such a cool dad and you're literally and expert in my favourite animal so contrary to my mom who won't let me get a snake, if you were my dad I would have a literal paradise of snakes. Edit: also it's probably because I grew up without a dad so in kinda itching to have one 😅 and you kinda slightly look like my dad.
