What Are the Benefits To Renting a Hair Salon Chair? | Hairstylist Business Tips

In my own experience I have only been a booth renter so I guess I'm a bit partial to this business model. I just can't imagine not being my own boss behind the chair! As a chair renter in a salon or studio, you can determine your own prices and control your own schedule.
These are just a few of the top reasons you should consider renting a chair to set yourself up for long term success as a hairstylist.

Hi Samantha...Glad I found you becuz I've had this question for years and no one can answer it but you did good. I wanted to know how much to charge for renting the chairs??

@@ricadior2291 Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, the answer depends on a lot of factors. Some of which are specific to the local area in which the salon is located. For instance in Santa Clarita, a suburb north of Los Angeles, CA weekly rent can range from $250-$400/week. The best way to understand rental rates is to call around to local salons and get an average cost. That's what I did when setting my own rates! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Hey thank you for your video! Very informative. I wanted ask by renting a chair do I need to have experience working in a salon as hairdresser first before doing that? And with chair renting can you you get your weekends off 😊? Also how would i know if I can rent a chair in a salon, would they advertise it? Thanks xx

Hey Jackie! When you start renting a chair you need to be prepared for weekly rental expenses, invest in stocking up on your color, supplies and hair styling tools, have some sort of clientele, and know how to market yourself to help bring in clientele. It is always a great idea to start working in a busy salon that is well known and has a great "walk-in" potential. I would recommend assisting for a year to two years if you have not done so first. This way you can get the feel for the salon and how working in a rental salon environment works. Or you could rent part time and be a commission stylist elsewhere or even at the same salon if possible. That way you can ease into the expense of a full time rental station. In regards to having time off, usually at rental salon's you can come and go as you please to a certain extent. Some salon have specific hours that you are only allowed to work within. And you pay to work only certain days within that salon. I personally assisted for 2 years. I saved as much as I could, so when the time came I had some money in the bank to help pay for my weekly rent wether I had clients or not. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

They will advertise it but it is best to have experience. You have to pay whether you are on vacation or not but you can work your own hours. At my salon I only hire senior stylist. They pay $400 a week, but make about 1K a day! We are in an affluent area and turn away clients. I wish my salon was bigger!
