    On Sunday afternoons we used to take turns laying under our bunks while our buddies looked out for the drill sergeants. You would put your fingers up into the mattress springs and would fall asleep with your arms hanging from the bunk. That way, if any of the cadre came into the room, you looked like you were working on tightening up your blanket from underneath. Good times back in 1985.

    Hey I just graduated from basic training a few weeks ago at Fort Jackson . On sundays we woke up at 0600 for first formation for chow. After breakfast we went back and we got "personal reflection time" where you can sleep if you want to. Like he said you sign up for whatever church service you wanted to go to and you wait until your time to go to church came around. When I would get back from my church service it was already lunch time so pretty much as soon as I got back we went to chow. We wouldn't start cleaning until after lunch. We would usually get an extra hour of personal time at night too. Sundays were always the best day of week , always looked forward them.

    Sundays sucked when I was in 20 years ago. If you didn't go to church you cleaned. They kept us on total lock down the first 3 weeks until we got our first 2 hour pass. We couldn't leave the block and all there was to do was this shitty AAFES shoppette. When we reported back at 1600 our drills shook us down for contraband. (50 push up penalty for any.) Cough drops were considered 'candy' and confiscated. I got in trouble for buying a can of parade gloss boot polish and really got into trouble for having an outside book to read. ("You need to keep your damned nose in your smartbook! Not reading this GDI shit!" GDI stood for 'god damned individual'.) What I didn't like about Sundays was being locked inside that damned barracks with nothing but time (after cleaning my gear and barracks for the umpteenth time) to think about family and freedom on the outside. It was a great feeling the last morning we marched to supply and turned our linen in for the last time and I was out of that damned place. (Ft. Leonardwood) Good luck with your Army time. When you get older you'll realize it was the best time of your life.

    When I went to basic at Ft Leonard wood they didn’t have a service for my specific denomination and sect (Lutheran Missouri synod) but after a couple of weeks it turned out one of my DIs was of that faith and would round us up and load us into a truck and take us to his civilian church with his family. That way he could always go to church with his family too. We even got to go early if they were having a pancake breakfast or post service meal (of course we always volunteered to help with set up and clean up then 😜) and yes he didn’t mind if we slept in the back pew or read or wrote letters during the service. Thinking back he probably worked that racket during every training cycle

    Pretty accurate from when I went to Navy bootcamp. Cleaned, iron uniforms, church, and actually allowed to take a longer shower than usual. We also did a ton of drilling as well afterward. I mean a ton. I don’t know if they still do but we competed in pretty much everything in training and the hardest competition was the drill part of it. Are RCDs at the time had a competition of them selves not only bragging rights but the lowest ranked had to buy pizza for the whole division before graduation and we weren’t going to lose that.

    Hi, I went to Basic and AIT in 1988 at FT. Benning in Gorgia. And at that time Sunday's were for Church, we couldn't sleep? Cleaning the barracks, writing letters home, one phone call home, polishing your boots and polishing your brass? The polishing of the boots and brass made you pay attention to detail and while sitting around polishing away on your boots and you brass was the time you heard all the great stories from your fellow Soliders and you really got to know your battle buddies, I personally wish they would have kept the tradition of the polushing and cleaning your gear because true comarodery was made with one another during those times. Boot camp was one of the best memories I have in life, it was one of the best times I had in life for sure!! and some of the worse times also? I attended Basic and AIT at a place called Harmony Church in FT. Benning, My most cool and rememerable experience happened towards the end of my basic training. My platoon won the Guidearm challenge and we were able to go and spend the weekend in Addy Murphys old barracks and I was able to sleep in his acuall bunk!! My whole platoon just sat around the barracks floor the first night by candle light, because there was no electricity in the barracks anymore!! and we were told crazy stories by a few old Infantry Soliders who searved with Murphy in World War II they were vollenteers from the Museum on post. We all talked about how it must have been for the Soliders before being shipped out to battle. All of the Old Soldiers were all highly decorated and all of them could have erned the C.M.H in there own right for sure. Highly respected in the Infantry community, almost Infantry God's if you will? A very cool experience I will never forget. I wish every Soldier could experience the comarodery I felt with my Infantry Brothers during my service to our Great Nation. To this day I'm still in contact with quite a few friends I met in basic training, that was 30 years ago!! So if your a young person and your thinking about joining the Military? ( ARMY ) Just do it!! It will, and mark my words: be the absolute best time you will ever have in your life, especially if you like shooting and blowing shit up? It's kinda like being a "professional camper" with alot of guns. FOLLOW ME!! I'M INFANTRY Take care! Hawk Out!!

    Lol I slept in my bed (on top of the sheets) on Sundays, sometimes until lunch, while the churchgoers were at church. We were supposed to be cleaning but the drill sergeants barely ever came up to the bays during Sunday. Also my bed was in the perfect spot, hidden behind a pillar so if a DS did come into the bay I had a good 10-15 seconds to jump up and fix my sheets before the DS saw me.

    I went through Benning in 92, we got up for breakfast, signed up for services, then marched to church. If you didn't go to church it was waxing and buffing the floors. Later we had time for laundry, polishing boots. Later in Basic Sunday night, the pizza guy would come by and we could hangout downstairs eating pizza and using the pay phones. Drill seargents would usually play music as well.

    I went to Fort Lenordwood for BCT and on Sundays there we woke up 0530, went down for formation for breakfast chow then go to church services if you wanted to. Then we would go on 3 or 4 hour break or whatever it's called to do what you want plus we'd have our phones as well. Forgot the name of it. Other than that, Sunday's were always a good day.

  • @difficultylevelnoob6095
    @difficultylevelnoob60953 жыл бұрын

    Hell! For us Sunday was like this for us... Wake-up at 5 or 6 (Depending on DS), Formation at 0530 or 0630. Chow anywhere from 0630-0830. Church from 0900-1000. 1100- right before chow... Short smoke session so that we have something to pray for next Sunday (Only real time Drills were joking with us). Dependent on reservation, 1200-1330 Chow. After chow clean and/or study until 1630-1800 which was chow... After chow a massive PT smoke session until 2000 where we had an hour of personal time... 2100 lights out. Sundays were more laid back, but just as busy with busy work. We had maybe 20-30 mins to eat each meal. We still did PT. All of this depended on the phase we were in too. The first 2 weeks was total control so it was not laid back at all. As time went on it was more relaxed up until our last few weeks where we got on and off post passes. Although I was in OSUT (One Station Unit Training) so my basic was 17 weeks long.
