Are they essentially the equivalent of a land tick? Because that's how they look. And they leave divots on the turtles and whales after they've fallen off or are removed. What's the best way to keep them from re-attaching? They seem to be highly destructive and a bit of a horror show.

I came here to find out what barnacles are after seeing a baby turtle(Not tortoise) having it's shell riddled in barnacles and a man breaking it off Also for further context, it rendered the turtle immobile as it's stuck floating

I am tired of eating dogs, cats, cows,sheep and chicken. Can I cook these barnacles and eat with salt and pepper? Are they toxic?
