What About Women, Paul? || David Platt

Our culture often views the Christian faith as being backward or overly restrictive in relation to women. But Scripture has an altogether different view of women and men and their respective roles in the church.
In this message from 1 Timothy 2: 8-15, David Platt points us to the apostle Paul’s instructions concerning how God has designed men and women to relate within the church, including how authority and the teaching of God’s Word is to be exercised. God’s design may run counter to the world’s wisdom, but it is ultimately for our good and the building up of the church.

Dear Pastor David, @39:45 you take the verse that women should not lead or have authority over a man as an opportunity that "Women should lead in various positions in the church under the authority of elder leadership." I am curious this conclusion comes from the text you are reading. You mention that in the NT we have women praying, prophesying, and helping to 'lead' others to the Gospel, but I wonder if this is an equivocation on the word 'lead', which in the verse context references a special position such as eldership. I am worried that all of our bending around backwards on verses like these isn't highlighting our fear of simply stating the word of God and expecting that women are strong enough to hear it without us giving one hundred apologies as to why it isn't as bad as it seems. Rather, isn't it a glorious thing that God has established men to lead women in the church and in the home? Must we put a caveat even to such a statement as that? Paul gives no caveat as we do. And we are not the denomination producing strong men in our society. I don't say that as a matter of fact, but anecdote.

God's headship order is clear, but people make it complicated. As a Bible following woman, I believe that if we can get the church and Christian families to practice God's headship order we'll see more of His power moving in our world.
