    @@escapetherace1943 I can see we disagree completely. If you think a garberg is heavy then you’re probably an ultra light camper (I automatically assume anyone who is an ultra light camper is clueless when it comes to the outdoors). Ergos are definitely a preference thing. The symmetrical handle will conform to the majority of hands quite nicely. A 1/8” thick knife is perfect for a camp knife. Not too thick. Not too flimsy. The garberg is also virtually indestructible for $60 (assuming you get the carbon model, the stainless is still pretty tough too). If you hate the garberg then you’d hate my EDC which is the Esee 5. My opinion may be based on the fact that I teach survival skills to special forces. The garberg and the Esee 5 are tough do it all knives for any environment. It just sounds like you want a slicey kitchen knife or carver. Nothing wrong with that 👍

    @@pubplays368 you couldn't be more wrong. A 9 ounce knife is a chore to use, especially in a prolonged survival scenario. That's a lotta weight when you are starving, tired, and need to make kindling nonstop. A morakniv heavy duty weighs half and is tougher while being cheaper. Same for the mora robust, the bahco 2449 or the hultafors gk. Those 3 knives are quite literally indestructible and between 14-25 dollars, and they weigh less. Full tang offers literally nothing in respect to these knives (the hulta is a 3/4 wide tang anyway). I would argue that literally whatever knife you have on you is fine regardless and that if you are batoning at all you probably don't have actual survival skills. Batoning isn't necessary in any environment to secure kindling. I used to use the garberg and I just use a mora classic most of the time. Once my skill got better I realized batoning was useless and unnecessary to make fires. Batonners are the mall-ninjas of the bushcraft/survival community

    Premium, not "good". Good to me: Rat-1 or 2 $30-40, Buck 110 or 112 slim lite $30-40. Autos are a different animal but one of my favorite edc's is Benchmade Mini-Reflex 2550 $190-200. I really like my premium knives but, I have no nostalgia with Mora and the equation doesn't work for me. (Price>material >quality of manufacturing) I would much rather have a Bark River in 3v for the price but, thats just me.

  • @staceyroberts9177
    @staceyroberts9177 Жыл бұрын

    The “upgrade” though I can’t see this as being anymore durable than the current design, does not justify the significant increase in price. Ash is an ok hardwood but there is nothing special about it. Though I am certainly not a steel snob (I edc a traditional Buck 110 on my belt) the blade material isn’t anything to write home about. I am having a hard time locating the added value in this knife. You would be better off buying a Mora knife blank for about 13 bucks, picking a nice piece of hardwood and build your own. Buy some leather and maybe a small leather working kit and make your own sheath. Plenty of KZread videos on how to do it. You’ll have way more fun and feel a heck of a lot better about the money you just spent.

    @@charlessalmond7076 I don’t see the problem in that, they can always change the price, that happens for so many brand in different industries. Nike, for example, starts at 300/350$ easily, but they will set the price around 100/125$ after a few months. If they stop selling and they have more product, they can always lower the price and sell it, what’s the problem? No one forces you to buy one.

  • @clintwestwood3539

    @@charlessalmond7076 I agree that it’s overpriced, I’m the first saying that if they do 50% on each single knife from the line, I’ll probably end up buying them all. At that price, it’s not for me, not because it’s too steep, but because I can get a fully custom knives from North Europe or Slavs that are both geniuses as far as bladesmithing comes. However, now, I just don’t understand this crusade so many of you portray for no reason. If they are at that price after the release, it means that it’s selling; you can see so many reviews already which means that people are interested in the products. Calling them “idiots” or “buffoons” like so many of you do and comparing them to BRKT or LTWK saying that the latter are just straight up better, I mean, are they? Lt wright are good quality, but they are also overpriced for the steel and treatment you get (which is soft for every single steel, but they said that they tried to run some batches harder and people complained because they go full Neanderthal and beat with rocks on their tools). We want to talk about Mike Stewart from Bark River? The guy is a crook like his father before him, selling O1 marked as Cruwear at 500$ when it was a 100$ product, when exposed he tried to shut down everything and publicly (on bladeforum, bushcraftusa and Twitter public platforms) threatened to physically harm and sue who was exposing him. Or do we want to talk about the 61 hrc Magnacut that has burnt edges and oxidise because of the bad treatment, then he says that it’s because the steel is not stainless, however Spyderco is replacing H1 and LC200N for Magnacut because stain proof, but you have to do a correct treatment? You see, it’s not all black and white. I’d rather support Mora or LTWK rather than Bark River, so it’s already a flawed argument to compare them to begin with. If they ain’t selling, they will lower the price. If they ain’t lowering the price, it means that they reached their target and I’m happy for them. If they lower it or discount it for some pieces, at 50% I’ll buy them immediately because they are a good company, with a wonderful warranty and I know that they pieces are quality. They are just not “custom” premium quality. Can they compare with BRKT? If you value ethics, yeah, they obliterate Bark Rivers. Can they compare with LTWK? It depends, but they are close, closer than you think.

    I've learned that a whopping 40% of morakniv knives are Sweden exclusives and aren't exported, while the remainder --- I had the Wit and Lok, you just have to handle them to know the huge difference however The steel is still recycled Swedish stainless, most likely AISI 420 But I got a response from morakniv directly breaking down the why for the price, it's full tang versus 3/4 and a black full grain leather versus plastic, also the handle is white ash certified and treated versus rubber, and a black blade versus not. They said the knife spends more time at every station which combining all of this added up the price, less robots and more hand work and lastly the obvious profit

    Mora has left their lane, and have made some seriously poor production/marketing decisions. They’ve discovered that the bush- and wood-crafter folk are serious about their tools, and will to pay for quality. However, we all have one or several Moras because, while providing above the bar quality for the genre of blades they’ve does for decades, they’ve made their popularity and name on the basis of providing quantity. Heck, I’ve got several higher end scandis and crafting full flats, and yet I popped my Companion HD on my pocket yesterday, while overhauling my home stump set of three batons, and all three of these out of the wooden granite that is Osage orange. They’re great. However, few of the serious users of our genre of blades will toss their whole wallet at these new Moras over other makers’ offerings at the same price. Thanks for PSA clip, brother!
