You will love the original from 1973 by Vicki Lawerence whose husband at the time wrote the song for Cher but was turned down by Sony Bono. Vicki a member of the legendary cast of The Carol Burnett Show, recorded it this has become one of the greatest one. hit wonders

The original version was done by Vicki Laurence and was better. No video with schmaltzy voice over. It left it to your imagination to fill in the blanks.

I don't usually like remake song, but both are really good, Reba never destroyed it like I feel most remakes are. I give Vickie and Reba thumbs up. This was a one hit wonder for her and Reba did her and this song good.

As much as I luv Reba, Vicki's version will always be my favorite!!!❤
They did the video this way... with dialog over the lyrics... because this wasn't a new song at the time. Every country music fan was very familiar with the Vicky Lawrence version. Plus, by the time this video was released the Reba version had been on the radio for quite a while.
Vickie Lawrence was on the Carol Burnett Show for the whole time that the show was aired on TV ... they loved her and she looked so much like Carol Burnett that she could have passed for her sister. Here is Vickie singing it in 1973. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2Z-o8yshaSvfrQ.html
If you haven’t already, the video version of “Does He Love You?” Is OUTSTANDING! My favorite!
Reba is a great country music star! She is the new coach on The Voice to replace Blake Shelton even though Blake can not be replaced in my eyes! Since we have to lose Blake, Reba is an awesome choice!
A lot of reba's videos, especially early on, were mini movies set to music. Some people like it, some don't. She's very theatrical even in her live shows.

I saw a Vince Gill interview and he was talking about the "Heart Don't Lie" song and he said "Oh great she's going to want to do a video" lor something along those lines lol

Saw her live...puts on helluva show
Vickie Lawrence was on the carol Burnettvshow and played many roles. She later was the mama in the show, Mamas Family. Yes, she played the old woman. Lol! She also did the song, That's the night the lights went out in Georgia. Very good singer
Great reaction---I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! One note: Nobody ever mentions it---and I'm sure you caught it, but I just waana make sure---Reba is the old lady, AND the young girl!!
The country queen 👑👑👑
I think seeing you sit there with your mouth litterally hanging open was the best I've watched in a while! 😂😂😂
Just listening to the song breaks your heart, but I like Reba’s mini movie.
The look on your face when your brain broke was priceless. the moment you realized that she did!!!
This song is one of my favorites. You could make a whole movie from this song. Also love Reba, she is as sweet as she seems.
All of her songs are awesome! Reba will always be my queen
Vicki Lawrence hit in the 70's and Reba's hit in I think the 90's.
Reba is always fantastic. And she is fantastic live, but the video helps tell the story.

I'm glad you like her although once you've met she or Pake you wouldn't love her quite as much possible, I'm guessing, unless she's changed. Just being honest.😉
Gotcha!😊
Love this one. Great reaction thanks for sharing.Delilah by Tom Jones is another dark one.

Love, LOve, LOVE that song---and him!!
Fantastic song. I totally get the debate over live vs official video. I think it is good that you saw the video first, as it does fill in a few gaps, though maybe too directly. That said, you will really appreciate the song on it's own.

No gaps to fill. It's all in the lyrics. The video is fine if you know the song, but it's out of sync with the story in the lyrics.

@@TEDodd I never caught on that the judge cheated with the wife too until I saw the video. I thought he was just one of those ones that wanted to shut the case, give the punishment, and didn't care if they had the right person as long as it worked on paper. The video changed my understanding of the story greatly.
@TEDodd
9 ай бұрын
@@chlupl that's not in the song. That was extra added to make the Judge look worse. It was about corrupt small towns. The judge and sheriff being buddies, not investing and a shame trial. Many miss that the brother was accused of killing his friend Andy, not Seth who was the guy Andy said his wife was cheating with. And the video plot of Andy and the wife being killed together doesn't match the lyrics. And said she was with Seth. No implication that when he went home she was there. Always bugged me that we don't hear what happened to Seth. Did the sister kill him too? Maybe when she killed the wife?

@@TEDodd I honestly NEVER realized that the person singing actually murdered them, I thought it was just a corrupt system that didn't care if they got the right person

@@kaiseremotion854 The whole last verse reveals the narrator is is the sister and she killed Andy and the wife. ---- Well, they hung my brother before I could say The tracks he saw while on his way To Andy's house and back that night were mine And his cheating wife had never left town That's one body that'll never be found You see little sister don't miss when she aims her gun
Seriously, the lights went out in GA last night. Or at least NE Atlanta. You have a fun channel.
I've known this song for decades, but as they talked over the words I thought, Sebs needs to hear the words to understand it. But, you got it. It's not hard for those of us that know the song.
Reba, the greatest man I never knew
You should Google Vicki Lawrence. She played Mama on "Mama's Family. A spinoff from the Carol Burnett show. She was also a huge part of Carol Burnett's show. I head that Cher was offered this song but Sonny didn't think it was up to her standards. IDK.
Off subject, but it's something I randomly remember when listening to Reba. In 1991, 7 members of her band and her manager were killed when the plane they were on crashed. Reba was supposed to be on the flight, but she wasn't feeling well, so she decided to stay overnight and join them the next day. As expected, it devastated her.
I have been waiting for you to experience this! Your reaction did not disappoint. It’s a lot to unwrap in a 4 minute song with the story overlay.
I love this with the video. Thanks for reacting to the video version.
This 1 takes me back to my childhood! Listened to this all the time! ❤
OMG! I literally checked to see if I had accidentally hit the button. lol when you paused at the end!

The Reba version is a cover. Vicki Lawrence did the original version. The 2 verrsions have very different " Feels ". For me the Vicki Lawrence version feels more Blues / Jazz and Reba's more Rockish.
Vicky used to act in shows like Mamas family and the Carol Burnett show along with several others
Watch the Vicki Lawrence one. Reba sings MANY GREAT SONGS.
Great song…another one of Reba’s best !! 😊The video is awesome!!
Had this on vinyl! Young Reba was fabulous!!
This was originally sung by Vickie Lawerence. Vicky Lawerence was on the Carol Burnett Show and later played Momma on Momma's Family.
I loved watching your reaction.
I can’t remember if you have reacted to them or not yet, but Reba has some other banging storytelling songs you should check out. The two that immediately come to mind are The Heart Won’t Lie and Is There Life Out There. She’s so good ❤️

Don't forget "Fancy".
Reba is absolutely one of my favorites… please also listen to Martina McBride “I’m Gonna love you through it” and Trisha yearwood (garth brooks wife) in all her oldies
I agree with what you're saying about the video, because that's the one thing that bothers me...if you don't know the song well and you're watching a video that is playing out like a scene from a movie, It almost overpowers the vocals of the song and so you're struggling to try to understand what's going on because you're hearing somebody talking and you're also hearing somebody singing the song. For someone that is doing a reaction, it's almost better to hear the song first alone and then watch the video to it. When the song first came out it was super popular... everybody listened to it on the radio... heard the song and then later when the video came out it was easy to follow along and understand. I also agree that Reba is one of the best!! I've seen her in concert...I love her❤ that's the one thing about country music is the storyline is always so good and it paints a picture immediately in your head of what is happening... that's what draws you in❤
One of my favorites from when I was a kid. I was always a little sad that she didn't have one left for the judge, though
Thank you so much for looking up the lyrics! You never disappoint keep it up
Reba is the goat indeed.
Talking might distract a little bit but can't take anything away from how good Reba is acting out the part in the song.
Reba also appeared on Broadway in “Annie Get Your Gun.” I will try to get you a copy of one of her songs.
Another great story is Cocaine Blues by country star Johnny Cash, who himself had drug issues back in the day. Song immediately starts off hard so I suggest you listen/read the lyrics. Peace
A great country story song NEEDS the video..That's why they made it, to watch!!
Love your reactions
Vicki Lawrence looks so much like Crol Burnett. She played Carol’s sister in a lot of the skits.
Morale of the story, don't tick off Reba!!
I’m so sorry for your what he’s growing through…:
Reba is a brilliant story teller with an iconic string voice she is the queen hands down
There was also a movie staring Dennis Quaid and Kristy mcnickels
Vicki Lawerence’s version (the original 1973) is still my favorite!
IMO, this song describes a story between the tight bond of family members and the lengths that one does for another.
You just can't go wrong with Reba ✌❤🎶
Night the lights went out in Georgia is one my favorite movies
Listen to it just the song.
Reba for you and the Mrs. ~ "He Gets That From Me" "The Greatest Man I Ever Knew" "Somebody" All three of these should be done with the video

Love Reba , looks , personality , talent. I named one of my beagles after REBA
Definitely made the right decision of watching the official video 1st!!!!!
Another great one by Reba is "Maggie Creek Road".
❤
Kristy McNicol was a very busy child actress who transtioned into acting as an adult. Her lasy role was as Barbara in Empty Nest until circumstances led to her retirement.
Love you dude! You are the best!
Carrie Underwood's Two Black Cadillacs is another one like this
🤯 I only know the original. I didn't know Reba did this song too! 🥰🐰
It gets in the way of the song for sure …it’s such a great song
Reba is a good actress and does a lot of great "videos"...but this video definitely gets in the way of the song.
This is a song best to listen to a lyric video first.
Great reaction man!
The judge and the lawyer also went to jail. Conspiracy, adultery, evidence tampering.
That can only be done in country music
She’s great at story telling
❤ ✨
Yeah quite a twist
Vickie Lawerence was on the Carol Burrnett tv show
Vicki Lawrence is the one who played Mama Thelma Harper in mamas family
Approximately 4% of people sentenced to death are innocent ... that doesn't seem like a lot until you consider how many people have been given the death penalty!!
I'm loving your reactions and comments to (The Night the Lights went out in Georgia) by Reba MacIntyre!❤
I prefer Vicki Lawrence's version.
Agree that Vicki's is great, tells the story... but Reba brings the drama / movie quality to it. Both good.

Damn I've never seen the official music video. It definitely gets in the way
Omg...you should see it i person
I used to see this video on CMT when I was a kid. I never understood what it was talking about. It was only later that I listened to the song a few times without the video that I got it. I think the video definitely detracts from the meaning of the song and adds confusion.
Best political bumper sticker DOLLY & REBA for PRESIDENT
Watch a version without the original video, and then watch this again lol
Two Black Cadillacs by Carrie Underwood
Vicky Lawrence. Carol Burnette show alumni and Mama's Family
Ok, let the discussion start.. I'm not against the death penalty in theory. If someone has proven to be so harmful to society that they can't be released, then it is a just response. I don't agree with the practice, though. I don't trust government or the courts to always get it right.
If the video background of the song distracts you, find another version of Reba singing the song and listen to the song by-/itself.
The part of the song she talked over was a husband coming home from a business trip. His best friend tells him that his wife has been cheating on him with every guy in town and he was with her also. Then she (Reba as the old lady) said her fiance was messing with her too. The wife was sleeping with the judge too so that's why he wouldn't listen when Andy said he didn't kill her.

Ya see, little sister don't miss when she aims her gun.
Please Do Hank Williams Jr & Waylon Jennings "The Conversation" talking about the KING of Country Hank Williams Sr. The story to this song is the Sory of Country Music
You should watch Does he love you by Reba to. It’s another darker song. I especially love her smile at the end of that video.
You should watch the movie, Tremors. Reba plays a gun toting survivalist monster killer. She does it very humorously. Fun movie.
It's great live but the video is a good idea for the first time 😊
