Maybe my favorite episode in the show. Tony knowing he has to confront the Pussy situation literally makes him sick to his stomach. David Chase has talked over the years how much David Lynch's Twin Peaks inspired him, and you can really tell with these dream sequences, some of the best in the show in this episode. Surreal, trippy, and also meaningful all in one.

I’m so pumped you guys are all in on the dream sequences. They were always one of my fav parts of the show.

Not sure if you guys have reacated to The Godfather movies, but in Tony's second dream, when Silvio tells Tony "Our true enemy has yet to reveal himself", Silvio is quoting a line from Godfather Part 3 and wearing the same outfit as the character who says this line in the movie.

Sopranos pretty much out of the gate was viewed as on another level. Gotta remember when the series started in 1999, every show was like Law and Order where each episode had the same formula, a problem is introduced then resolved at the end of the hour. The year Sopranos debuted, the other Emmys noms were 3 police/law shows and ER. This was so much different than anything else on TV at the time.

ahhh Funhouse, personally my favorite episode of the whole series and for a multitude of reasons! from the fever dreams, to the rolling stones song used in this episode, the montage of the family gathering at the end? all perfect to me

In that dream that Tony had on the boardwalk, the guy who had been shot in the head was killed back in the very first episode of the season I believe, in a car. His killer was the guy who was shining his shoes in the dream. Pretty creepy detail

❤you are correct, this is the first epsiode for me at least where I knew they were going for something existential and wide ranging. The show is an epic. It has great watchability because of the progression of the show…

In the scene on the boat, where Silvio is like "Don't yell at me!" I thought it shone through how close they've been since childhood. These are life long companions, about to kill one of their oldest friends. A member of their family. That's why they feel sick too, it's not only Indian food (allegedly) or sea sickness...they're disgusted with what they have to do.

this episode is really good at showing you who is in check with their emotions and who isn’t. Silvio’s moment, where he goes up to the top and cries off screen, shows you that he is undeniably the most stable in the family. Tony and Paulie, who’ve known Pussy just as long as Sil, don’t even cry. Sil’s maturity, responsibility and strength is vital in his character and I hope you guys continue picking up on it, because a lot of people don’t!!

Yes. You are correct. This was the episode that guaranteed this show was breaking new ground. When I watched this at the time, and they whacked Pussy, I thought even that was dream. The back and forth with dream sequences and reality, I really expected to see Pussy alive in the next season opening episode. He was too big of a character for him to die like that. No show ever did that. Kill off a main character. The feeling of having food poison that bad, then being on that rocking boat, down inside, the feeling in your gut of not only finding out of your closest friends betrayal, but the planning of killing him, had me on that same ride feeling that deep down sickness in my stomach as a viewer, as well. And Tony in this state, didn’t even put it off until he felt better himself, no he went through with it. That was the start of a unique and groundbreaking series. Bravo on the reaction!!! It only gets better.

The food poisoning-fever dream sequence reminded me of some traditional culture ceremonies using hallucinogenic substances and shamanic practices. Love Davi’s interpretation of David Chase showing us what’s inside his head every night. It felt like pouring gas on himself and lighting himself on fire was him realizing that if he didn’t kill Pussy he’d be sacrificing himself. There’s a mob saying about having killed somebody and dumped their weighted body in the ocean: “He sleeps with the fishes.” Pussy (as a fish) says “These guys on either side of me? [looking at the fishes] They’re asleep.” Pussy is telling Tony what Tony has to do, Tony has to send Pussy to “sleep with the fishes.”

That episode felt like the breaking point. Tony couldn’t handle it anymore, and we got to experience that with him. Brilliant writing from David and Kessler. - Davi

Yeah, I too think there's a psychosomatic component to what he's going through, the food poisoning is a way to not have to deal with it fully. But then the dreams keep going and he has to confront it. Pretty sure he knew since Pussy came back, and he's been repressing it the whole season.

No one knows there's India mobsters which probably makes them so good right. As a proud Italian American greaseball myself? I know the GOATs such as "our" thing (lol!), the Irish, Jewish, Russian, Albanian mobs, the many asian triads and yakuzas, the many street gangs of racial/ethic descent such as bloods etc, and the new danger of the Cartels south of the border. But one crime element i definitely overlooked was the Indians! It makes sense since they have such a huge population and unfortunately much of the population is living well below the poverty line. Just something to google in your own time if you're into organized crime. Check out "Dawood Ibrahim", leader of D company (a crazy huge gang in Indian with connections world wide). Dude was responsible for a significant terror attack in Mombay in 1993. Food for thought; the Indian mob is real and clearly has a bigger thirst for blood than the Italian American version lol

Go look up recent news from Edmonton Alberta Canada. They have a serious Indian mob problem there. About a month ago they had an open mob execution in broad daylight. A mobster & his 11 yr old boy murdered. Then a couple of days ago an Indian mobster sprayed a neighborhood with bullets from a car. Seems like an Indian mob war is happening in Edmonton.

When Meadow “announced” she picked Columbia Univ (in NY) I hope you guys realize that didn’t actually happen & was just another dream. You seemed quite anxious to use her “announcement” as an invitation to jump on one of your viewers. Hope you also realize Tony didn’t have food poisoning. It was the mother of all panic attacks brought on by always knowing Pussy was the rat but being too weak to deal with it. The giveaway was what Tony said when he awoke from his 1st dream... that “life is a big nothing”. He was in the throws of a deep depression episode but suppressed the reason why (Pussy) so it quickly became a physical ailment forcing Tony to deal with it. And as soon as he dealt with it (killed Pussy) the “food poisoning” ended.
