What 20 Years in New York Does to a Winnebago Roof
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I won't lie, I'm very tired!
The owner of this 1999 Diesel Winnebago Adventurer contacted me months ago looking to replace the roof. After a few setbacks, he drove from New York to Arizona over a weekend. He is not the first or second owner and inherited a roof in poor condition. What's surprising is that I did not think it needed a new roof initially, but after opening it up, found a great deal of problems, so from when it was made, and some from improper repairs. So join me again as I re-build a Winnebago roof and figure how fix some big problems.

Your roof repairs are epic! as I said before, it's hard to find someone to trust... you created the monster showing your quality work. I'm so happy you did ours. Thank you and the crew again. Happy we kept the old pusher. "the most difficult roof you ever did" lol
I have a 99 Winnebago I've been wanting you check out when ever we get down your way. But after seeing this I'm gettin scared of what you will find. I don't think mine is this bad, but I guess we'll see. On a better note, after watching all your videos and seeing your work ethic, I wouldn't trust anyone else to work on it.

Just like the Lord would do... bring the work we are gifted in, even though it may be the opposite of what we want to do. Good on ya James. Excellent work as always! I live in New York and can attest that most rv owners leave the RVs out in open all year for storage. Between below zero winters with heavy snow rv roofs take a beating. I have looked at alot of used ones and refuse to buy one that was local. They all leak. Great video as always. Your work ethic, attention to detail, problem solving, and leaving it better then you found it is very uplifting.

Correct, they were not built to withstand that
so relaxing to watch these roof redo's. It's got that oddly satisfying aspect so that's at least partly why they get more views??? Longer watch times?? I find my self pleased with the new glue and fresh wood after replacing all that weak and water damaged roof. Nice touch with the extra foam in those holes.

After watching a number of your Winnebago roof repairs, I'm amazed how strong those laminated roofs are without a skeleton. Our 1996 Fleetwood Flair had a 8" diameter city tree branch fall on the rear A/C. After the city removed the branch, I was surprised that there was almost no roof damage. Just a small rear in the rubber skin and some bent A/C sheet metal, under the cover. We were looking into a getting new Winnegabo,...not so much any longer after watching your roof repair videos.

Thank you for the great detail and explanations in your videos. I’ve owned 8 Motorhomes, and thought I had a good handle on what could happen and have done a number of repairs. . I purchased a new Winnebago Vista 13 months and 26,000 miles ago. Very happy with it but after seeing your Winnebago roof videos I’ve learned I don’t know near enough about Some of these serious issues. I sealed a couple of surface cracks on the roof edge but I would love to bring it to you for an inspection and proper fixes. Thank you again for great videos.
Another great video. Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. I'm about tackle the EPDM roof replacement and over cab rebuild on my 2001 Four Winds Majestic C Class over here in England. Your videos have helped me with valuable learning. Thanks again.

That black stuff is a leaf mold. It should be gently scrubbed with a medium soft washed at the end of any rainy season while it is still well saturated and it will easily come off. A rainy season is lucky to have for this reason.

The corner radius, that is sealed by a bead of sealer. As that radius seal begins to leak the grove that the radius sits in get the debris you are cleaning out, correct? Where does that water go? I love the wires running across the ceiling. Was that powering the lights? Or did they get power from the light circuits to power something else? Why are you doing this roof by yourself? Too many questions? Should I ask more? When will we see part 2? That's all I got....
Great ideas to help the customer get what they need. I am interested in what foam and gun you use.

It's always interesting when you take the old stuff apart and find the work that wasn't really meant to be found and manufacturers might not be that proud of. 21:11 I don't know if you saw it but as you install those panels, the roof is flexing under your weight, then you stick the panel on and, I have to assume, it's locked that way. I expect the crown would have a bit of a flat spot where you're kneeling when you first apply the panel. ...that's pretty much how you make laminated curves. It looked like it might have been more pronounced because of the opening in the same area. Obviously there's only so much to be done... I guess you could put a brace up underneath in the area you know you'll be kneeling as you first apply the panel to mitigate.

Hi James, Quick question. I am replacing the membrane on my 2010 5th wheel Denali by Dutchmen and once I got the old one off, there remains a very sticky glue on the chipper board. Not my preferred materiel but I suspect it's for cost reasons. Is there something that can be used to remove the glue or is laying down a thin plywood over it the way to go? Great videos BTW very informative.

I have a 2021 Outlaw. it's in the RV garage when I'm not using it. Hoping to never have roof problems. Would you recommend converting the 2 way fridge to 12 volt compressor? (I know you're busy doing roofs)
Owner should have addressed this problem at purchase. And lack of maintenance is not a Winnebago problem. I would love to spend more maintenance time on the roof of our RV but the problem is not having a place where a scaffold is available.

Hi Could you use composite materials instead of the thin plywood that is used ? And with a good roof or a new roof, would Vinyl wrapping the roof work, as extra protection and longer lasting protection and a better visual finish?

@AZExpert
2 жыл бұрын
A wash with a wax already in it.
It's too bad Cassone's doesn't have one of those docks that supermarkets have to back a truck into with the back at the normal ground height - imagine something like that, but used to back the RV into, leaving the roof at or near ground height. It would be a lot easier to work on all those roofs if they were nearly at ground height.

On average what is a ballpark cost on a fiberglass roof replacement for a 39' diesel pusher? Also do you see very many 2016 Fleetwood Discovery's in need of any type of serious roof repairs?
