The bagpipes originally came from the Middle East but when it comes to Irish and Scottish culture, there are two kinds of bagpipes: the Uilleann bagpipes and the War Pipes, also known as the Highland pipes. The Uilleann pipes were played mostly by they Irish, and have a much softer, melodic sound to them. These are the pipes you will most often hear played indoors.

My MacDonnell relatives left Glengarry Scotland for Glengarry Upper Canada (Ontario) and in the War of 1812-15 my Great Great Lt. COL. MacDonnell formed the Glengarry Highlanders Fencibles to fight the invading American Army who were repulsed. I ended up as the Drum Major of a Police Pipes and Drums and never lost a beat. I also was on the 1st ERU (SWAT) / EOD (Bomb Squad) in Ontario in preparation for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Proud of my Scottish Highlander Heritage that served me well.

I live in western Pennsylvania. Back during the Pontiac Indian War those pipes resounded on the ridge east of Fort Pitt, now Pittsburgh. The Black Watch routed a superior force of indians at the battle of Bushy Run. They saved the fort and all the people in it who were besieged. Gotta love the pipes.

I never knew that. Interestingly it has a German suffix too having been a fort before. 'Burh' is the Old English (Anglo Saxon, so has the same Germanic root) word for.....fort. look up Wareham burh (an actual Anglo Saxon burh) and you'll see what I mean. It was basically a town behind walls and they were built to defend against the Vikings. The one at Wareham was that solid in its foundation nearly a thousand years later that your countrymen, the US army, utilised it during the second world war.

I do recall some years ago, up in the mountains that were white with snow, MacDougal playing his bagpipes every morning. I think that it’s a warning- he’s gathering his clan. Oh tweedle dee and tweedle dum, I see those claymores in their hands.... MacDougal and McGregor. Dishonor he would never the Tartan of his clan.

While I was viewing the video on my phone, without my glasses I seen a sign that I thought said Toilet lol and thought that's how nice the Scots are, they offer and post that public toilets are available. Lol! Now I'm viewing the video on my tablet and with my glasses. The sign says "Shop to let". Lol! Even still the Scots are still very nice people!

This is the way to parade heroes! Soldiers with their weapons leading the way, Scotland does it right 👍. You no longer see this here in the United States, people would get offended by such display of macho patriotism....Nice job, Scotland is an amazing place 👍🍺
