Ойын-сауық
Here's the opening of the Family Classics presentation of "Crack in the World" [1965] on WGN Channel 9. Featuring Frazier Thomas as host.
This was the first time Family Classics ever showed "Crack in the World".
The Family Classics theme song was called "Moviescope" and was a piece of library music composed by Dennis Berry. It was originally released on the Berry/Conroy label.
Also includes a WGN "Chicago at Twilight" Station ID and slide. (voiceover by Jerry Golden) (posted separately here, albeit with a different voiceover: • WGN Channel 9 - "Chica... )
"So now, if you're quite ready...let us begin."
This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, November 25th 1979 at 3:00pm.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!

That opening melody sure takes me back to a better time.
Brings a tear to my eye. Every Sunday afternoon I loved watching these.
I used to love watching family classics!
My family and I NEVER missed this show!! No matter what movie was on, we would all gather around the TV, my father would make popcorn and iced tea or lemonade. This really brought back some fond memories.
Bring Family Classics back!
I wish they would put Family Classics back on Sunday or at least put it out on DVDs..🌹❤
A television staple every Sunday afternoon... Viewing started with lunch with watching The Cisco Kid The Lone Ranger, then it was Sunday movie matinee, the theme song was groovin on a Sunday afternoon LOL that usually comprised of either Charlie Chan or Sherlock Holmes depending on which week it was. And then... Family Classics with Frazier Thomas you knew the weekend was over when Frazier Thomas said good evening will see you next week on Family Classics

We were so young and innocent. What happened to tv now? Sheesh!
Discovers a new source of energy called Crack ?!? 🤣🔥🤣
You knew the weekend was over and you going to tomorrow
Ah, The Beloved Family Classic-A Crack In the World.
Yes, I imagine crack in the world was considered "a new source of energy" back then.
They had this whole set at the old Museum of Classic Chicago Television on Washington St. Not sure if they moved it to the new location.
Isn't the voiceover in the WGN id at the beginning here Jerry Golden?

Yes, sorry got them mixed up for a second there. :-)
I didn't think that movie "Crack In The World" was worthy of being a Family Classic.

Didn't the Planet Break In Two in that movie? Sending Half of the Earth's Population to Suffocate and Die in Space?

@@loanaoftheshellpeople5627 Nope. But a piece did break off where the two cracks met, propelling itself off into space to become a new moon. The protagonists were right near ground zero when it happened too, which by itself was dumb - you really think people that close to such a violent event wouldn't be vaporized? The movie actually came out before plate tectonics theory, and it was thought this would *actually happen* if we bored too deep. Nowadays, of course, anyone familiar with how the planet actually works would recognize how ridiculous the entire concept was. The entire crust is girdled with "cracks in the world" and we get along just fine!
"Crack in the World." How contrasting! LOL! Sweet family music and tonight's movie is a scary disaster movie. LOL! #HowContrasting
