For those of you who weren't around back in the 70's, that was just what watching TV used to be like, with all the summer signal degradation messing up the image and the sound of another station on the frequency bleeding through the audio in and out in waves. The only thing missing was the crashing static that would entirely blot out the station's audio from lightening, all summer long... and this was all taking place on your choice of about 7 available stations in NYC from ch 2-13,+ UHF, maybe.

So if this was in May of 1970, that means National Educational Television was still around. It was replaced by PBS in October 1970.

David Susskind's theme was "Gateway to the West," also used to intro "Boston Movietime" on channel 4 in the early 60s.

"Gateway" was played practically every day on WBZ for a few years in Boston in the early 60s. Great stuff! Remember some of the wake-up shows in the mornings? "International Zone." "Sign On Seminar." And is there a retirement home for test patterns?

The theme can still be found on recordings by its creator, Robert Farnon, of Canada.

@MomAndDaniel -The 1970 French Chef ending is included here, but was different than the ones that came later. This clip is in two vids; this one is 1 of 2, the sign-off would be in 2 of 2.

Oh, yeah... The EEN was the predecessor to American Public Television IIRC.

0:34. I didn’t know the funding credits and the EEN logo had background music.

I remeber seeing reruns of TFC on and off up untill 1987 but for whatever reason they were limted to to the last 3 yrars of its production. What I'm hearing was probably from the previous seasons that were never reshown. I wonder why?

What's on here is one of the black-and-white episodes of "The French Chef." Later in 1970, the show went to color and the stock library theme was replaced by an original theme by John Morris.

I noticed the full video of this sign-off is no longer available. Why is that? It's no problem, just wondering. Thanks for this!
