WGBH-2 - 1975 Sign-Off Recreation (sweeper guy)
Since I don't expect to see the original again any time soon, I have re-built the WGBH sign-off I generally refer to as the sweeper.
With no images to work from, I created the end piece by memory, having seen it first (and maybe last) in 1975. This concept preceded the Charles River pan sequence remembered by many.
Notes:
-I had to create the illustration work from scratch having nothing but memory to go by, and also needed to make by hand a set of pixellated masks to transition from the mission statement to my section.
-The only audio I have of v/o announcer William Pierce reading the sign-OFF seems to be my old audio recording of the original sweeper sign-off from '75. But probably due to brittle reel-to-reel tape, the very end is missing. The last two words were: "...saying Goodnight"
-The sign-ON ran in reverse order, as the Chas. River pan piece would later do.

As from today, Tuesday the 1st of September 2020, WGBH eliminated the W from it's name, and now it's simply "GBH"

So THAT'S what went down in the "WGBH (1975)" rip over on the CBSEye76 channel!
In the pixelation sequence we see Christopher Lydon, who joined WGBH and the 10 O'Clock News in 1977, so this sequence cannot be from any earlier than that year. Perhaps their was a very similar sequence with many of the same photo stills that was used prior to 1977 and then was updated.with new ones with newer programming. Amusingly enough, it was never updated again for at least 12 more years. :-)
That's a good point however the last surname gets lost in the fadeout as well. But still, if I ever try to improve this, I'll keep your idea in mind.
David Gregory, alumni of Channel 2's 10 o'clock News, now at NBC. I have not forgotten too! Was the sweeper sweeping for the duration?
