In this video we take the wet in wet technique to the next level,... to notches unknown! We 1) create a contour drawing, 2) flood the paper with water, 3) let the water soak into the paper and 3) add our beautiful color to the paper! The results are incredible.... a unique watercolor painting with it's most profound attribute taking center stage. Have fun with wet in wet technique!

Thanks Chris. Wet into wet is really fun. Trying to confuse? 300gsm is 140lb, 300lb. Is 640gsm. I had to stop and think a minute there, lol. FA is beautiful paper. Very pricey though, esp. at 300lb. Ouch. Way to precious for me to practice on. Their Studio paper is ok and is a cotton /Wood pulp mix. If I wet both sides it stays open and doesn't buckle being 140lb. Don't get the beautiful diffusion of the FA, but it's not bad. Thanks again.👍

Hi Annette, thanks for watching and the interesting and insightful comments. Your correct, wet into wet is really fun and I used to paint in this style a number of years ago. I have to experiment more with different papers more often. I'm glad you are having good success with your paintings,... thanks again and Happy Painting!

I'm really glad that I read your comment, because I've been trying the wet to wet on the 140 lb paper and my paper keeps buckling and then I get a puddle down the middle. So I'm curious, when you wet both sides of the paper I'm assuming you are not taping the paper down as it would be wet and that would be hard to do? I hope you don't mind my question. Thanks!

Outstanding Chris!

Hi Donna, type in “Chris Petri brushes” on KZread! 👍😎
What about using a heat gun to help the drying process or is that a big no,no? Question: are you using a DaVinci Travel #7 brush?

Thank you . having a go at this using some fruit and a vase I have. Do you draw slightly dark for the camera or do you always draw quite dark sketches? Been having trouble with shadows so this really helps.

Hi Yvonne, thanks for watching. Yes, I like to draw dark as the pencil lines showing through look good in my opinion. I'm glad you tried this painting,... it really fun and help with fine tuning ones painterly skills. Happy Painting! :0)

Thanks so much for the positive and kind feedback! I appreciate that my friend 🤠👍🏻
Great job! I am a beginner and learned a lot from you. Especially how to manage the water content of the paper. Haven't seen that advice on any other videos. Do you ever soak the excess pigment up with a brush instead of blotting? Overall a nice video/lesson to watch.Thank you for the insights.

Hi Steve, great question…yes I do use the brush to lift up washes at times! 👍😎🍀
Hey Chris. Another great video and technique! Really love the way it turned out. Just wondering if you have a video on the portrait in the background at the beginning. It's very Hockney like!

Hi Andy, that was a practice painting I did from one of Charles Reid’s books. Thanks for your kind comments and I’m glad your painting along with us! 👍😎
it looks like you use a brush that looks like it has a needle nose... maybe it is just the way it looks, but do you have a brush like that? You are so amazing and make your tutorials very user friendly.Stay safe in these challenging times.

Thanks Rhonda, I appreciate your kind words! Yes, that is a red #8 Alvaro Castagnet needle point brush,... every watercolor artist should have this brush...It's necessary for any type of landscape or flower painting!
I love this method and thank you for this beautiful tutorial. I have 140 lb paper and noticed you used 300 lb. I wonder if I can work this same way without the paper buckling so much where I can't control the different pigments movement?
@cpetri766
2 жыл бұрын
140 can work two by repeatedly wetting the back of the paper as we work on our paintings…this way it stays flat ,… works really well on Masonite or more plastic type working boards.
Chris, great video, thank you. I am in need of a rigger brush and would like to know the exact kind you use (used at 37 minutes into this video). Would you be so kind as to provide this info? Thank you
