I was about the say the same thing! I have to make art for myself otherwise I start to hate idea of making anything. The only exception is I enjoy making and sometimes posting fanart related illustrations but its always from franchises that I love or enjoy. Yes it means my audience grows at a snails pace but I’ve come to terms with that for the sake of my mental health

I started learning digital art almost 2 years ago. But I did connect into communities and that has helped me to grow faster then what I could on my own. Simply because I ask for honest feedback and I dont post the things that I dont like OR my smaller studies. If you don't compare yourself with other artist that have studied more hours and more years you will be fine, study from them learn from their styles, but dont compare. Also dont expect recognition on instagram or any other social platform because almost nobody comments or likes, except if you niche into certain fan art like a comment above.

You are right on the money with your thoughts. I switched from a career in art to a Healthcare career when I felt art lost its enjoyment. For almost 15 years, I hardly touched it until I bought some canvas and brushes on an impulse buy. Now I am painting again in my spare time and rediscovering the joy in art. I do it for me, for practice and occasionally will sell a little piece if someone likes it. Those who can stick with it, deserve nothing but applause. It can't be an easy way to make a living. Keep up the great work and the interesting videos. I will share your auction with my DeLorean owners group to see if we can get some more exposure for you.

I'm not a very creative person, but I love watching artists create things. It's the reason I'm subscribed to so many art channels on KZread. It makes me sad when artists have to do things that they wouldn't normally, do just to survive. However, I don't think this is a new issue because I have to think even during the times of Leonardo DaVinci and Michelangelo, when they lived off their commissions, they must have found themselves in a similar position where they had to create what other people wanted them to do in order to survive.

You're my absolute favorite oil painting KZreadr. Stay healthy and sane in this crazy world we're living in. I've just reached the stage where people are asking me to paint things I'm not interested in painting, for money of course. Luckily I'm not proficient in painting babies and pets so I can decline without any inner turmoil. But I know that if I want to start making money off my paintings I'm going to have to paint things that don't appeal to me. And that's a bummer.

Thank you very much for bringing up this. As a hobbyist artist who was drawing all their life I completely stopped drawing after some time of posting art online. I just couldn't do it. Posting online and drawing only for that reason has killed my will to draw. But now, 2 years after that, I'm starting to pick up pencil again. But this time I'm drawing only the things I like. And no posting whatsoever. Whoever is reading this and feeling like they are on verge of quitting drawing - please start drawing for yourself and don't post. And even if you quit - don't worry, it just means you needed that rest. You might come back to it later, just as I did, although I felt that I would never ever draw again and that is after 20 years of drawing. So good luck everybody and please take care of yourselves!

This is such a wonderful video with a topic that really needs to be discussed more. As an artist and creative, I often get caught up in that idea of "I'm not growing fast enough", mostly because I've been working hard in hopes of making a living doing what I love. But honestly, maybe the fact that it's taking a longer time is a good thing. I only create what I want to create and to do the things that bring me joy. If others also find joy in my work, then that's wonderful. But at the end of the day, I want to create the things that are meaningful to me and share what I enjoy and am passionate about. I've always wanted to stay true to myself, and I think I should be proud of that, even though at the moment I'm not making a living through my work just yet. So many people have tried to tell me "Why don't you do this? People like this stuff and you'll get more likes". It always makes me angry and frustrates me. I don't want that for myself. I want to stay true to who I am. ❤️

I always appreciate your honesty when it comes to motivations. For about a year I was off social media completely. In that time I was keeping a sketchbook and working in weekly. The drawings and paintings were definitely for me at that time because I was essentially showing them to no one. However, since then, I’ve come back to social and post my work regularly, as well as feel the need to create more work to post more often. It is such a trap trying to balance the marketing of yourself and the purity of the work you’re doing.

I completely understand this in a very deep level. I literally stopped posting my personal work online very recently, firstly because of art theft (which sucks on its own), but also because of the fact I realized that what I paint for myself is for *me*, not for my friends to see, not to show the internet. Realizing I don't need no ones validation on my personal work was really mind-blowing and freeing. Nowadays I've been only posting my commissioned work, and that's all that I need both as a showcase of my art for people who want to commission something and as "art for others to see online". Same goes for my sketchbook, it became a safe haven for me to draw whatever I want and however I want without the pressure of having to show it to people online.

My last time was yesterday. Hat is off to you as always with all respect and admiration one can have. Mix up years of study and talent and you get Alpay and select others that put in the work too. Add that voice and Alpay stands alone we all so enjoy listening to. Wonderful video as always.

Love it. I was pretty jazzed about Back to the Future as a kid as well. Love it even more that you’re auctioning it for a great cause. Fantastic work (as always). Keep it up! I would, personally love to see more of this type of content. It’s an honest reflection of you as a person and the things that excite you, while still showcasing your amazing talent. And it’s incredibly cool to watch you paint… so there’s that. Happy Holidays all.

Yes!!! I only just started making new work in the last month that was for me, and to not overthink and just have fun! It had been about two years of commission work before that…and I was really in a place where I felt a bit stuck creatively. Oufff! So I can’t tell you how much I agree with the sentiments you had in this video, it’s so important to do this as an artist🙏 really solidified things for me again, hearing you say it, so thank you, great work man! And Great video! 👌

Wonderful painting and thoughts again! I actually feel the same, although I am only semi professional at the moment. As soon as you show your work online, your thinking changes and you put your mind in a kind of corset. It can not breathe as deep and free anymore. Even if the feedback is just positive.

I agree with your message here and thank you for bringing this to light. Once you become ambitious with your art things get fucked up and you lose what you had when you started out. I’m going back to basics and do something just for me if I can still remember what that is.

Alipay, What a great cause and an awesome painting. I really like your movie related art. Watching your painting, it starts out looking like an abstract with the colors but it always looks great when it all comes together. Maybe that’s why my paintings look like they do. Need to break down the color and shades of the paint. I will try. 😀Angie St. Louis, Missouri

i really appreciate that you are donating the money to the research for parkinsons. my grandfather had has been suffering from this disease for the past few years and its been getting worse. although we have tried many methods to not make it worse, I hope in the future we could get some remedy for this disease. I'm still in school and I don't really own money to auction but the best I could do is to like and comment on this video 🙏
